  1. While there are unsolved deaths of tourists all over Thailand, Koh Tao definitely has its fair share. Lackadaisical policing with an agenda and/or something else? There is for sure a bad element there (way in excess of the norm) that needs to be expunged. Regardless of this poor lad’s death, it must be doing more harm to Thailand in keeping the status quo than making changes? I guess people will continue to go, however.
  2. More about local countries coming in and nicking jobs. Personally wouldn’t fancy working in the heat for a fraction of what I can earn back home. One is of course not curtailed in doing certain trades in the oil industry, eg.
  3. You couldn’t tempt me with either place. ???? But it’s a shame it’s so underused. Would take the strain off Suvarnabhumi if folks could go ‘directly’ to Pattaya.
  4. “Two deaths linked with cannabis use” Meanwhile, 200 murders are blamed on alcohol use… mai pen rai.
  5. Have had a little of this in the past but minimal nowadays and feel more comfortable around Thais than my own. Perhaps it’s where you live… is it very touristy? Do you try to interact with them much, how’s your Thai? Obviously you should strive to be presentable and be liberal with smiles; Thais are masters at picking up hostility. In your above scenarios, more often than not I’ve had Thais approach me, asking questions etc. Wasn’t always that way. Try to change your mindset a bit and/or smarten up ????
  6. … or more poetically, don’t have both heads in the same shot.???? But good news this creature has been found out. Bang it up and empty its bank accounts… all 500 baht’s worth!
  7. Yes, they are important, but that guy making huge amounts from throwing a ball or singing is bringing in huge amounts. That is the monetary system for you. These doctors also chose their profession and could shift over to the private sector (which most are simultaneously involved in anyway) for appreciably more money.
  8. Prayut Starts Packing Need a hand?
  9. Yes you always get the add on and their cust service is crap. Booking.com (same owners?) is often better or going direct.
  10. Wouldn’t be so sure but one can only wish! All those soldier boy dinosaurs have no business wearing suits.
  11. Bit unfair. So you would be cool with having your bill padded with extra drinks that you never ordered? which happens all the time. Better off paying as you go in these holes... or don't go altogether.
  12. Not going to giggle, but that is very good Michael. Balcony walls here in general are woefully low and this kind of thing is easily done even sans copious amounts of alcohol. Got a bar across our balconies, without which I'm pretty sure I would have gone for a flight long ago.
  13. Don't waste any more of your time regards police. Looks like you got off lightly; if you'd have made it to the hotel with that misfit, would likely be in for a LOT more. Generally not a good idea to go out on the lash before a flight, too, but each to their own. ????
  14. Very cold, Steven, though this did make me chuckle somewhat. The poor guy
  15. Sorry, but ????????. I'm sure that's what he was doing at 4am as opposed to, say, bumbling back to hotel from bar.
  16. Yep, a load of old tosh. Might help with bone integrity or whatever but a cup a day certainly won’t make a kid a six footer. I drank it all the time growing up and am relatively vertically challenged. Better off touting decent mineral water (and not RO) than the dodgy hormone-laden-that-never-goes-off white stuff they typically have here.
  17. They would in my town, but unless a big break in this type of thing is a massive waste of police time. Not much of anything goes on in boring neutral Switzerland so the police there have plenty of time. Anyway, in other news, someone trod on someone’s cat.
  18. Bizarre. Anybody can be what they want to be, but kids being granted heavy options at such an early age by weakly parents and bust societies is likely more a culprit. Have you looked into the amount of suicides that happen from a result of kids having realignment surgery only to deeply regret their decision later?… that the system did not prepare/challenge them is pretty common in the West among those who regretted ‘their’ decision. This event is more a moneymaker by Central.
  19. They could choose another profession if it is too much for them. We get all this in the UK and they are well paid there. If there are evermore people sick, then something is broken... let's look at diet and the pharmaceutical industry pumping the wrong things into patients.
  20. This is also a bit of a myth. While maybe par for the course in certain overly touristy places—and that ‘normal’ Thai women there wouldn’t want the stigma—once you speak the language and have genuine Thai, typically middle class friends, it opens up all sorts of avenues. Many Thai women are also sick of the Thai male polygamous nature of which this guy alludes to.
  21. What a disgrace. We all know there's corruption in this fair land, but to take (paid for) food off children is the lowest of the low... right out of Kim Wrong-Un's handbook. How's about some proper retribution for a change, like emptying the director's (or whoever is in on this) bank account and divvying it up among the parents?
  22. Would probably get Mitsu again if had to buy again. Current place has Eminent which seems to run well. And, yes, inverter for sure... too many positives to overlook.
  23. Which means it almost certainly won’t. Nice play on bigging it up though, but China couldn’t win at tiddlywinks. It is militarily inexperienced and any move on Taiwan could quickly see a sunken navy and missiles reigned down on Shanghai etc (if they started bombing Taipei) and huge sanctions courtesy of the West. China could then join best mate Russia in a race to the bottom. If Thailand had any sense they would politely decline.
  24. The people will grow a pair and oust their orc government before that happens. Taiwan is proudly its own entity and the Taiwanese generally dislike the mainlanders, who they consider boorish and uncultured. This move by Thailand is not surprising…. they were likely told to comply. And, yes, F-35s are well n truly off the table. They can’t be trusted.
