  1. Of course they do but that doesn’t mean they’ll like you for it, Srettha.
  2. Well certainly now, but unless you’ve had your head in the sand or never looked at the news it was always risky. I’m sure most Thais would have known the risks previously but were swayed by high wages. One couldn’t be so oblivious to think Israel a chill destination and this kind of thing never likely to happen. .
  3. Very difficult situation regards repatriation (military planes) and getting people out of problem areas etc. Glad the guy was in the position to use own resources and get out… 50k is s bargain under the circs. But unsurprising to see a complete lack of empathy here; more of the usual anti-Thai quips ad nauseam.
  4. It doesn’t necessarily but is one of many examples where potential returnees that like a tipple might think twice, not to mention the silly shopping purchasing hours. Frequenting a normal to classier establishment, anywhere really but Bkk especially (read: non-girlie bar shoeboxes with wife-beater-wearing mongers ????) will set one back handsomely, more expensive than London. Alcohol is ridiculously taxed/overpriced here—look at the price of a bar beer to the average wage or a semi-decent restaurant wine—while Vietnam pricing is about where they should be. It’s never stopped me coming (I’m not an alcy), but along with crapola Thai beer and other factors, may figure into others’ plans.
  5. Wish all the rogues would remain in their own countries. People make light of this, but this kind of carry-on won't be good for foreigners in the long run. With all the bad press farang a-holes have been making lately, xenophobes in positions of power here could eventually see this kind of thing as opportunity to crackdown and make life more awkward for all. Just sayin.
  6. Figures, going by the amount of tat posted in one topic. IMO, newbies (many of which are existing niks) should be on probation and have a max post rate of x1 per week for, say, the first 5 years. I hear you, op, it's not what it was here (waaayyy off from 20y ago) and you'd have to be very switched off to not notice even the past couple/three years. Any tax invasion would be a major downer. Still better than the alternative even when putting up with boorish boomers... you know, the gen that bled our countries dry. All the best.
  7. Shorthand is PLok, not Pits. ???? Bit harsh. Yes, op should have ensured estimate before undergoing knife, but, even if you obtain one, it’s not a guarantee that you won’t be ripped.
  8. Well the guy has to be seen to care and score points with the prolls. Reality is the recapture of the hostages by Israel is already a top priority, but he probably didn’t do himself or Thailand any favours by reiterating its neutrality.
  9. Times are tight, people have less money, many return visitors have had their fill/had enough, baht still way overpriced, flights expensive, jittery faux government scaring people off, ensuing WWIII putting people off, cheaper booze at home etc etc etc. A free useless SIM and other superfluous ‘tempters’ won’t get people to come that don’t want to travel.
  10. Op already said melatonin doesn’t work for them. There was a thread from a few months back on this subject. Samui Grower particularly switched on. Regards oils, they say CBD oil alone doesn’t cut it…. should be CBN/THC cross: oil, gummies or otherwise.
  11. The warships are more a precautionary deterrent for other troublemaking parties in the region wanting to widen the conflict.
  12. Good. This new government is an abomination and needs a serious reality check! Populist policies like these have the worst of Thaksin written over them.
  13. Mine too. If they were really keen on moving on farangs (can’t blame them when observing the drunken antics in certain places), all they’ll need to do is double the marriage/retirement amounts, expensive compulsory health insurance for O visa types, and put a stop to the agent loophole. Some will take it, but there’d be a glut of expats applying for teaching jobs, while the monied ones will squander funds on the Elite visa and the rest will go home or jump ship.
  14. Forgot about Good Will Hunting (Matt Damon’s best IMO) and American History X. Also liked Norton in 25th Hour… Barry Pepper and Seymour Hoffman also great in it.
  15. So not a real moviegoer then? Guessing you’re like really ancient ????. If you can’t appreciate/understand Interstellar or Alien or Terminator etc , then I don’t want to see your list. These topics are as common as the ‘what d’you dislike most about Thailand’, ‘how much do you live on’ etc, and a top 3 always turns into top 10, but I’ll indulge… Heat Interstellar Somewhere in Time Almost Famous, Shawshank, Glengarry Glen Ross, Training Day, Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow, Enter the Dragon, In Bruges, Goodfellas, Empire Strikes Back, LOTR Trilogy, Predator, Terminator, TRON Legacy, Star Trek 2009, The Keep, London, Heartbreak Ridge, McVicar, and Once Were Warriors also up there.
  16. Steps forward, just don’t allow facial hair. All the bobbies prowling the streets in UK with their ‘trendy’ unkempt beards look ridiculous and unprofessional. Was reading recently that one copper that was told to smarten his up sued the force for thousands!
  17. Nice dig. How about Brits, or any other nationality, that didn’t used to chuckle? This whole thing just smacks of government/banking overreach and the continued lack of freedom in the world. Since the 70s, I cannot recall a <deleted>tier time to be alive than post-2020, whether it be wokism, cancel culture, curtailment of opinion, the extreme left, extreme right, warring d.heads, exponential increases in expenditure etc etc. I pity the younger generations for the utter sh1tshow ‘we’ have created.
  18. I was thinking the same, but are they going to be looking at transfers from 2024 or wealth here in general?
  19. Thai being neutral? Well of course they are; wouldn't want to get their hands dirty for either side, but not that they could anything so don't blame them. But neutrality is weak and pathetic. If everyone else were neutral in WWII, it'd have been game over for all. Having said that, there is evil on both sides here.
  20. System is abused here, no doubt, by even mentioning a truth. But we could do with a bit of this in the West... i.e. people making false claims through the media of historical sexual abuse on innocent parties, who are deemed automatically guilty and subsequently have their name and reputation dragged through the mud with no affect to reputations of false accusers.
  21. Auf Wiedersehen Pet Game of Thrones Lost
  22. Nice prose. I gave it a ‘like’. ????TV needs fun posts like this. The Thai powers that be have always just wanted foreign money and not the foreigner. And they are only making it tougher with this new tax thing etc. It does suck that Apple Pay is not a thing here… seamless, lightning fast and works just about everywhere in UK. On property, they don’t don’t want you owning land… pricing out ordinary Thais is not the reason. Just buy nice condos, pick up clothes elsewhere, keep your wealth out of the country, and carry a bit of shrapnel for 7-11—you’re missing out on fine counter girls and exceptional aircon, dude!. ????
  23. No, it’s disgusting. But Israel’s overwhelming flippant response with inevitable innocent casualties is also not ok. Dunno what the guy’s issue is but you can’t go around doing all that because you’re upset. All it’ll do is have the donkeys in charge here wanting to ‘clean’ the place up, which’ll make it that much tougher for everyone else. It will also give grounds for the silly reefer madness crowd to re-ban weed.
  24. Low season and still half a million tourists? I smell a rat, but then again TAT always talk tat.
  25. That’s because the real pretty/androgynous ones blend in and look like legit women so you are likely unaware. And, yes, I’ve noticed some stunners… you’re unlikely going to see them trawling Beach Road. ????
