I feel hopeless': Living in Laos on the brink
daveAustin replied to scubascuba3's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Crying shame for ordinary Lao folk. Trust the Chinese to ruin another country, obviously with the help of corrupt (now rich) Lao officials! -
I’m having bouts of Anxiety – Need advice .
daveAustin replied to Captain Disorderly's topic in Health and Medicine
Reverse for me… any anxiety lifts when I board that plane for here. Op, easier said than done, but observing one’s thoughts (as if the one doing the listening is higher than the one doing the babbling, and not judging them) to quieten the mind can be really powerful. The human mind has become an utter egocentric monster always trying to take one away from the present and you cannot stop it thinking, but merely watching what you are thinking can take the power away from sour thoughts. Have a read of Eckhart Tolle’s Power of Now. Basics like hydration, exercise, diet, sleep and decent nose breathing are a given. -
Had similar experiences in various places around the world and I’ll get on with anyone. The travelling in big groups thing. Don't see the issue with the op though. Under these circumstances, Thai immigration should just offer easy extensions, while there is certainly enough accommodation in the capital to house 10k people at this time.

No he hasn’t the backbone. He’ll express mild concern, don that usual sickly smile and buy the thing anyway.

Patong tuk-tuk drivers charged after assault on tourist
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Many tourists use them—how would they know any different, plus options are few? Most will also stay out after midnight. Strange comment all round, although I agree with the last part, in particular regards Phuket. Tuk-tuk drivers around Patong area are mouthbreathers. It would be nice if this new smiling donkey PM did something tangible by publicly removing that scum from society and then tackling the soi dogs. -
Is it? A group of big kids come into a playground and push the little kid around. No power, little support, rudimentary weapons—while one is an acquired nuclear power backed by the most powerful nations. Don’t agree with any of it and killing civilians is bad, but they’ve essentially had their country stolen. The US and co should butt out.

One of the saddest, most backward posts I've read on this site. Stroll on. I agree, though, we could lose a few more. You first.

Doin' IT on The Rooftops of a Penthouse in Kowloon...
daveAustin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Everywhere is boring compared to everywhere years ago. Along with ageing and nostalgia, the world in general has also become less fun, less free and horribly left/right wing. And, no, the Brits weren’t booted out as you well know. Lease expired on surrounding territories. Despite your obvious disdain for the British, it was them being there that made Hong Kong such a fun, eclectic place, while your beloved China was in proper Orwellian mode. -
They were probably too busy doing real police work like stopping motorcyclists without helmets

Tourism confidence in Thailand plummets amid economic jitters
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Highly unlikely. Have you been online and checked out other hotels/car hire firms with definite dates for bookings? Wouldn’t go by what people say in messages… they’re likely told to say such a thing as bosses know they can sell rooms during that period. -

^^ Drinking? Fine, name and shame. Phuket’s public transport ‘network’ is woefully bad. -
