Russian Man Arrested on Pha-ngan Island for 188 days of Overstay
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Don't know the story (all types & nationalities overstay), but cannot blame him if he's getting away from that weasel MF's pathetic little land grab. Just because he's unfortunate enough (please excuse) for being born Russian... -
^^ Didn't know Honda also made the Yaris?

Dunno about Phuket; bought in Chiang Mai while back and test drove truck which was not an issue. Doesn't help, but would suggest renting one for a week and putting it through its paces properly... don't get much feedback out of a 20m drive.

Wife Drove Over Neighbour's Dog
daveAustin replied to Brewster67's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
Careful careful. As you say, probably best to deny but wouldn't bring up any of the above if sh*t happens since it might suggest means. If it came to it. say sorry about that, didn't notice. -
Thai Airways Declares Over B10bn Baht in Profit in 2022
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No thanks. Quality craft and service but direct trumps it for me every time. Had a <deleted> flight with Emirates a while back and the messing around change planes + the ever present--though low probability--chance of being pulled for taking a benign pain killer... No doubt profits are being 'siphoned' with Thai, but never had an issue with them. Great flight from London direct/times etc. -
It is quite clear from the OP that they are not into luxuries, Nigel. Do pay attention! These topics ALWAYS generate the normal to the ridiculous. Yep, you can live in BKK for 20k... normal digs, liveable food, couple grand a week beer, the odd bit of strange here and there. Big budget guys lord it up (ooh, I can't live on 200k a month blah blah), but typically have loud cars, loud houses and high maintenance women. Don't do any of them. Have a beer on the balcony, get a motosai taxi to town and do not tip... EVER (they think you're a pr*ck when you do big anyway)! ???? Have fun!

It’s more than that here. Stigma and resources, or lack thereof, have dampened numbers. Yes today’s gen may be a bit wet behind the ears, but it’s all a sign of the times and perceived tougher past generations would be different today. Depression has been there throughout human history (the brain is a crazy b*tch)… and tougher in the modern world with all the societal tat, esp if your country is run by a pack of self serving soldiers and face is everything.

Thai Authorities to Promote More Traditional Songkran
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Sorry but what a load of old tosh! The Thais have been celebrating Songkran this way for decades, foreigners joining in for the ride. Places like Pattaya are the extreme but are merely following their lead. It’s the boring old fuddy duddies (farang and dinosaur leadership here) that would want to stop people having some fun. -

Top Thai virologist says 2023 is game over for COVID-19

Sensationalist title. It will never be game over for covid 19. -
Manual of Honda Click 160i ABS available in English?
daveAustin replied to Flying Saucage's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Reckon the 150 had a bit more poke. The extra CCs on the 160 was to make up for loss of power due to emissions control apparently. But yeah great bike. Only annoyance I find is the lack of dampening on front end. Feels like a 1950s Cub over small bumps lol. And yes pressures reduced from the standard showroom 100,000PSI ???? Perhaps the Michelins would help…. -
Might be alright news if you are one of the rare ones that is directly getting coin from these people, but a shower of sh*t for pretty much everyone else. Why don’t they invade another safe space and leave Thailand well alone… better still, stay home. No issue with sustainable numbers of independent travellers that directly benefit the people, but these huge waves of tour groups is just white noise that spoils it for everyone else. Blame Phrayut 100%

Buddhist abbot’s visit to Islamic school sparks uproar
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
… sharp intake of breath. Careful careful. Perfectly fine for Thai Muslim scholars and local leaders to want to ban alcohol and marijuana for the whole nation of course. -

Thai Man Undertakes 1200km Trek on Foot to Propose to His Girlfriend
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
1200k? That's nothing compared to how far the average farang goes for a bit of skirt... granted, most of em don't walk it. Women pick up on weakness, however. He should perhaps have a rethink and make her trudge the 1200. ???? -
Why are we seeing so many UFO'S now ?
daveAustin replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Indeed, but one only needs to attain a significant percentage of light to close down vast distances per unit time... it is the ultimate speed, though impossible to get near with our current understanding of course (we're still too busy building bombs) but it's all there in special relativity equations. Also ignoring manipulation of spacetime with big energy. This stuff with yours, and my, brain is just not on point to comprehend such a thing... another million years of evolution will have you a god. -
Why are we seeing so many UFO'S now ?
daveAustin replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
More eyes/spying/intelligence + awareness. Clearly not every UFO (didn't they change the acronym recently? big stigma) has a little green bloke behind the wheel. Though they are also there... one would have to be a simpleton if they imagined two trillion-plus galaxies x 100 billion stars with countless planets and moons could not produce something that would rival us. Never mind.
