I think it's meant to be tongue in cheek: If they were serious, the above would be bizarre. However, I do think smileys should be more liberally used. A simple benign text message can easily be misread depending on one's mood, for instance. Adding one of these ???? when one puts out an intendedly funny but unclear message can save a whole lot of angst. Mass production aside, there is likely little input protection (thermistors, power resistors, HRC fuses etc) on that device... not an issue when checking wattage with the clamp, but I would avoid testing anything other than low voltage systems through the leads. Certainly wouldn't go probing three phase power circuitry as there's a high probability it will blow up in your face. Build quality and drop protection will be non-existent and the leads and accuracy will also be naff--these points are what typically contribute to a meter's expense, along with sound input protection. But as long as you're happy and avoid measuring mains voltage, then ????

Going by the article, it isn’t.

Farang clearly of dubious character and while that fare is about right for both ways for that distance in Bkk, the taxi rider initially thought he was well up on the deal. He could be a good one for all we know, but has likely taken people 'for a ride' on more than a few occasions. Basically it hasn't cost him anything bar his time and ego, since 7 baht would about cover that journey on a fut-fut. However, coins typically aren't exchangeable so he could be out of pocket. Perhaps he should wear it around his neck as an amulet and also a reminder of those dastardly farang conmen. ????

Don’t know where this is but I observe the opposite. In a non touristy part of Thailand but have travelled recently. There might be fewer western tourists, for obvious reasons, but Bkk is as busy as normal with locals. People wear masks because they feel obliged to. I haven’t observed any mass psychosis either and the Thais I hang with (typically middle class, business owners etc) are laidback about it all. One hotel out of around a dozen asked to see vaccine certificate over the last 3 months.

You know now, but always best to avoid moving anywhere based on a holiday. Holiday mode never lasts.

What Would You Do If You Had More Money After the obvious splurge and barring traveling more, not a huge amount. Money is just a means to an end and helps remove the angst of not having any.

OTT reactions to covid by the gov have exacerbated depression and suicide rates here more so than those countries where there has been backup to these measures. They had an agenda, chiefly in keeping protesters off the streets. Very sad; doubtless Thailand can be a very lonely place if one is susceptible. China probably also has high suicide rates on account of draconian covid measures, though you’d never uncover any meaningful figures.

Can understand having a grace period…. this is Thailand after all. But surely the most effective way to get the new laws recognised is to hit people with maximum fines from day one. It’ll be big news everywhere with everyone talking about it.
