  1. PM May lost in translation?

Barnier said Britain must accept the full economic and legal status quo in a transition period after it leaves the EU and should expect no tailor-made terms on trade in its future relationship.

Asked if that meant there could be “a specifically British model” along the lines of the “bespoke arrangements” May has referred to without giving detail, Barnier replied simply: “No.”

  2. The contract-constructions, dependencies and interactions that have been created in the EU for over 40 years are more complicated than all the laws of quantum physics.

To let laymen vote about it without preparations, is madness.

We are now experiencing the result. Brexit without a plan, frantic, improvised, every politician talks without guidelines, insecurity of all.

     Brexit as dead birth.

  3. First, on many beaches were built expensive and ugly concrete  houses. Many owners have hoped on the well paying tourists as a target group, but this group visit KP relatively little.
The main tourists who visit KP are still young backpackers who prefer to spend their budgets for booze and party, and save on the accommodation. There is a lot of envy and disgrace in the game.

But the Government wants debit.

It is unfortunately so, that people who make debts stay financially better, than the people who only spend what they have as income.
The politicians of nearly all countries in the world spend more than they get as income from taxes.
Without the low interest rates, many economies would no longer work.
    "Who saves money is stupid."
Many states are living above their standards and spend more money than they get.
This are the only countries in the world  that had 2016 government budget surpluses in percent (from 185 countrys with data).

    44        Hongkong Hongkong                           0,0 %            2016

    40        Neuseeland Neuseeland                   +0,9 %            2016

In percentage the UK is even behind Greece!
    29 Greece                                                            -8,6 %     2016

    6  UK                                                                      -9,2 %     2016

The amount largest government budget deficits have (from 1-5 in Millionen US-Dollar):

    1          USA               -530.000         -13,6 %               2016

    2          China             -409.000         -14,7 %              2016

    F.ck the incompetent politicians.

Unfortunately the UK has a deficit of £50billion which requires cuts not so much to bring it down significantly but just to keep it in control. Those who don't like fiscal responsibility can stop the cuts by voting for Jeremy Corbyn at the next election in that way you can pass a larger deficit  to your grand children.

    £50billion, that would be nice.
The national debt (deficit) of the UK is 1800 Billion Pounds.
    Or around
    39.899,39 USD ‎(2016) per head.

  6. The EU also calculates Brexit a la Boris - the EU could go and whistle.

Could be that this is much more lucrative for the EU? Banks, finance, insurance and b2b service companies can move quickly. Then follow the airlines, which must have one year in advance planning security. Finally, production shifts.

The three tax paradises Jersey, Isle of man, Guernsey could be closed without UK veto. More Border guards have to be paid anyway.

    Would also be a scenario.

  7. In Germany, a two-wheel mechanic for motorcycles has an apprenticeship of 3 years, then he has to take an examination by an independent expert audit committee . After 2 years of practical experience, he can make his master, a further learning period of 2 -3 years and a comprehensive examination supervised by a craft chamber. I can understand that in tourist places, the demand for well-trained big bike motorcycle mechanics is great.
There are quite good Thai mechanics, but they often learn through try and error.
In all safety-related repairs such as brakes, hydraulics, steering, bearings, electrics, lighting, shock absorbers, conversions, tires, -  the fun stops.
Many thai mechanics often do not make safety checks when handing over a repaired vehicle.
Tires are inflated by feeling, defective light bulbs are not replaced, defective brakes are not detected and wheel and axle nuts are attached without a torque wrench.

Instead of pursuing a witch hunt for foreign motorcycle mechanics, the Thais should be more concerned about a reasonable training in safety.
There are already good approaches for thai home electricians.

On my motorbike I leave only professionals - Nationality does not matter, main thing the work is executed properly.

I don't usually shop at Wishbeer for Leo brand beers...

But if helps any, as of Sat. afternoon, Tesco was still selling small bottles of Leo beer for 34 baht per, which probably is a pretty good reference price pre-tax increase.

I am sure that the big chains also calculate something on extra.
Tomorrow, we will also recognize our prices, if there is something more clear about the new purchase prices.
    24 * 2,66 is 63,84 Baht per Box 24 Bottles.
The base is, of course, also a lever for the VAT.

At whishbeer now is 805 thb for box of 12 62cc or 990 thb for box of 24 32cc plus vat. If the price is correct than is 41.25 thb for one small leo + Vat. Almost 45 thb .

I thought the 805 Baht price was for a box 24 Bottles of small Leo (before VAT)
990 for a Box of small Leo (24 Bottles in a box) before VAT?
    Holy crap.
    That is sharp then.

  10. 15 minutes ago, marino28 said:

I don't know how much was yesterday. But now at whishbeer 1 box of Leo is 805 thb + Vat

So it is net 33,54 Baht per bottle.
    With VAT 35,89 per bottle.
In the gastronomic calculation one beats so 100-200% on it.
So it is something between 71,78 - 107,67 for a small bottle Leo in a bar.
In the trade calculation one is satisfied with low margins as far as the quantities are ok.

  11. A tax increase, which ultimately pays the final consumer, extracts money from the purse from the normal citizen.
This money is then used by the government for its projects.
So the purchases and projects of the current government are well known.
Whether the whole thing goes in the right direction, one can have its legitimate doubts.
Ultimately, this tax increase affects massively the poor and not so much the rich.

There is nothing positive  on a tax increase.  What use to wine (lol) over it?  So at least, I try to take it as well as possible. And sure, the Baht has been 50.  But I prefer the tax increase, how much I hate it, to a baht that was predicted not so long ago to fall to 30.

There is nothing to do about it, the pill is even bitter, if you know that people deciding this are even not elected.  A lot of things have changed, these last 10 years. Rarely to the good, as in every country. In Thailand, the waters are more and more polluted, we are not  feeling welcome, Chinese and Russians have taken our place.  Still we find enough pleasure to come, even we are sad about these changes.

Meanwhile some people are counting their days to their next trip. I still come to Thailand 4 months a year, so I enjoy what is still fine.

    Yes.
I live here over 20 years.
Have already experienced many exchange rates ups and downs.
This tax increase hits especially the normal Thai people, who just do not earn so much.
Foreigners with a good income from outside or tourists who have their budget may do not even notice this tax increases.
