  1. DWP does NOT require a stamp
  2. Overkill. Any 'respectable member of the community can witness the DWP life certificates. I doubt they ever get to Newcastle; someone in Wolverhampton will tick a box and file the life cert in a bin. Standard airmail will suffice, quickest I have seen is 7 days. A smart person will diarise for the state pension due 16 weeks after the forms were sent. We know the exact date to expect it - if not there after 1/2 days call the International Pension Centre and they will immediately reinstate the pension on the strength of the phone call.
  3. It doesn't need a stamp.
  4. Overkill. Anyone of good standing in the community can witness. Do you think that DWP check these forms...................it is a tick box exercise. Airmail is perfectly adequate for returning the life certificate.
  5. Could you please give an indication of the cost to renew.
  6. Thaksin Shinawatra. (technically he was caught and convicted but did a runner)
  7. I can confirm that my partner will suffer a reduction of 4 x 2.5% for our age difference of 19 years. ".Please note, we have spoken to the Scheme Trustees and they have advised that under the Scheme rules when you retired, if the surviving spouse/civil partner is more than 15 years younger, their pension will be reduced by 2.5% for each year that the age difference exceeds 15 years, subject to a maximum reduction of 50%" . In my case my partner will receive 50% of my pension (prior to the lump sum payment) - less a reduction of 10% for the age difference; She will receive 50% -10% = 45%
  8. Everybody benefited from low borrowing rates. The older (and maybe richer) people with savings were stuffed.
  9. It is true that interest rates have been artificially low for almost 15 years. Unfortunately, that means a whole generation have 'been used' to these low rates - and probably expect them. Nearly 32 years since we saw double-digit base rates. I remember (as may just about also remember) rates peaking at 14.88% in October 1989. For the youngsters on here:- Interest Rates in the United Kingdom averaged 7.12 percent from 1971 until 2023, reaching an all time high of 17.00 percent in November of 1979 and a record low of 0.10 percent in March of 2020.
  10. Never happened to me! ????
  11. I never came across an ugly one who didn't want the money! ???? "Thai lady have to earn the money" - said my missus, and many others.
  12. I think you are slightly different JB..... I believe you have submitted the new application but have retained your passport. The corner gets cut when you collect the new passport. Whilst the websites say that your old passport is invalid for travel, I don't personally think that is the case.
  13. I went to Cambodia (land crossing) on my old passport AFTER I had received the new one. I could only do that because VfS omitted cutting the corner off my old one. Personally, I think that you could travel, certainly within Asia. Remember that many countries require 6 month validity on a passport so that could be an issue. I certainly don't think Thai Immigration records are updated until you request the transfer of stamps to the new passport.
  14. In theory, the Tabien Ban and Thai D/L could fall foul of the date requirement - the Residence Certificate obviously won't; I would just send that, only one valid document is required.
  15. Be aware that Table A (regarding supporting documents) requires the address evidence to be dated within the last 12 months. That said, UKPO are not looking to be obstructive and will accept a certification from a third party (wife or landlord) that your are living at the said address.
  16. Be aware of the impact of the strike on processing..............it could cause delays in the UK, as well as processing through Thailand. 10 weeks is the advised processing time in the UK. You will need to see if they are accepting fasttrack applications:- https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently#:~:text=You can pay to get,to 3 weeks in advance. Recent experiences of turnround times are:- 30th January, back on 25th February 20th February, back 3rd April. 28th March, still waiting 11 weeks is the current advised processing time. Overseas British passport applications How long it takes You’ll need to allow up to 11 weeks to get a new passport. https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/overseas/information/thailand/renew/adult
  17. R. I. P. Always a great source of information and will be sadly missed.
  18. Did you mean to post that in the Jokes section?
  19. Online is easy to complete. no need for commercial software.
  20. Not in Thailand. He who laughs last, laughs the loudest.
  21. I don't think you have the slightest idea what democracy means as far as Thailand is concerned.
