  1. I guess that is why the poster referred to being registered at that address. That is how you get the blue house registration book.
  2. Just a quick word of advice on your missus emptying your bank account - and I am not trying to teach grandmother to suck eggs - make sure that she knows to keep to daily limits; once the ATM card is retained the plan is over. Take with the pin number and withdraw, say, 30k every day - or every other day.
  3. That is good, especially from a practical standpoint. Be aware that all mandates cease on death. Withdrawals from a sole account would not be legal - but extremely practical. Another party to a joint account is entitled to the funds on the basis of survivorship.....I am slightly surprised that they don't want to hear about the death...... obviously this joint account is 'either to sign'.
  4. Waste of money. A phone call to IPC is all that it takes for immediate reinstatement.
  5. Leave it, you will get frustrated. Mr NoJo is probably the most delusional poster at the moment.
  6. Not much better IMO………….but at least they didn’t burn down shopping malls, or try to kill the prime minister..
  7. I thought it was 19th May…………or was it June………..now July.
  8. He who laughs last, laughs the loudest……………and I don’t think that will be you.
  9. No apology required, we only know what we know. It is personal choice which account to use, but considering WISE as the Plan B is a smart move IMO. WISE don’t make money on Sterling to Sterling transfers (neither do HSBC)……. WISE do charge on currency transfers but their exchange rates are always much better than, say, HSBC, that makes them the best choice for moving Baht to Thailand. WISE transfers are often immediate and can also be made at a weekend.
  10. Yes. Several friends, who burned their bridges by closing UK bank accounts, have private and state pensions paid to WISE.
  11. Yes ..I told you that I do the same every month with WISE. Same currency transactions do not attract a charge.
  12. Ask the Thais, they seem to frequent them often.
  13. Yes, I do it every month HSBC is my main account (I have 4 others) but I use WISE for any currency transfers......I just paid for car hire in Spain via WISE.
  14. I can’t think of many reasons to cast my vote for an 80 year old. Biden is certainly not an exception worthy of reconsidering that stance.
  15. One man’s waste is another man’s entertainment. Don’t be so selfishly subjective.
  16. No, they look like cheesy Thai beach areas.
  17. In my days as a tourist I never went without a drink if I wanted one. Does that make me smarter than your perception of the average tourist? Please don’t construe these comments as support for these ridiculous blanket bans on alcohol sales. They are not, in a grown up world grown ups should have the right to decide whether to imbibe or not - whether on religious grounds or any other. In any event tourist areas should be exempt….not just (some) hotels.
  18. LOL…..When I had a restaurant the local police determined that Buddha considered that by 6pm I had shown sufficient respect and we could start selling alcohol again.
  19. Not wishing to be pedantic but it is not an alcohol ban - it is a ban on the sale of alcohol on that day. There is nothing to prevent you drinking (previously acquired) alcohol.
  20. What happens (legally) in the U.K. is very similar to what happens in Thailand. Taking anything to the bank now is pointless! Take it to two different bank staff you will likely get two different answers. Once you are dead is when what the bank says matters. I applaud the preparations you are making; we all want to see our loved one’s taken care of, and our wishes carried out. The comments you are getting are intended to help you understand what is likely to happen ‘on the ground’. In Thailand that can vary from place to place but it is most likely that your missus will need to obtain probate from the court before being able to access your funds. Many expats operate on a practical level and ensure their widows have access to an ATM card and PIN number……or internet banking access. Not entirely legal but it saves court fees.
  21. You really can’t tell the difference?
  22. Rubbish! I can’t think of any Thai town that resembles anywhere I have been in the west.
  23. Happy endings in cricket have invariably involved Ben Stokes! ????
