No business plan or any research, the Thai way if you see a new business copy it, all they will end up doing is seeing their income drop with each new shop, in turn equipment gets old no money for repairs etc I noticed near where i am 3 opened, this is a franchise or someone opened 3 in a small area, they have equipped all 3 with cameras, open 24 hours no staff on site any issue and you use line to contact and someone turns up to sort out, this does seem to have been thought out

Last year i transferred my stamp to a new passport it took 5 hours they wanted bank statement, bank book they did want an updated TM30 showing the new passport number in my case they even wanted my last TM 47, the IO was in a foul mood, it should be a simple 10 minute exercise, in the end the supervisor came and told her to do it.

BREAKING NEWS London-Bound Air India Flight Crashes Near Ahmedabad
howerde replied to webfact's topic in World News
Seen a report on the pprune website, the pilot took off from an intersection and not the full length, so the take off distance was just under 1900m not a lot for a B787 that would have a lot of fuel for a flight to uk -
yes , every thing is flexible when it comes to regulation, as i was told 40 years ago by a Thai. only YOU are responsible for your health, remember in Thailand virtually all officials either pay for the job they are doing or are appointed by a friend, it has nothing to do with competency

The Thai rural food is appalling, zero hygiene (hepatitis b and that can be passed on to children) , who knows where it came from or what is in it, the food is just left in the heat all day, sticky rice has a high GI index, diabetes is an issue. liver cancer particulary among issan people is one of the highest in the world this is caused by liver flukes in uncooked fish the flukes then enter the liver , there are constant appeals to people to cook food, this falls on deaf ears, poor education on healthy diets clean food. clean utensils is ignored.having been there, but to be fair i would not eat street food anywhere in Thailand The other thing i noticed is how these people alternate between constipation and diarrhea they think this is normal

Medical certificate
howerde replied to kevtheblue's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My experience this was about 5 years ago, the doctors would not sign the medical form (reception said no doctor would sign a form saying you were free of the diseases without the required tests and the NHS would not do it) A few people were using private doctors in Harley street London, they said some doctors would do it for a few hundred pounds, but most would not unless you had the TB TEST that was about 700 pound at a private clinic .(this was a facebook group) Follow the advice here just apply for the non o, the O-A also requires a criminal record check, have you done that? -

They can i have personal experience of this i had a Thai insurance policy linked to my visa (so a well known company), after a small claim that they tried to wriggle out of (my doctor phoned them), then 3 months before my renewal. my hospital emailed me to say the insurance company wanted to see my medical records, i agreed. Then at renewal not only had my policy gone up 80%, they they added a load of exclusions for things i did not have and still don't have, it was as if they were looking at someone elses medical records, i phoned them and they just said you have gone up a band as for the exclusions they would say nothing, my claim was for burnt tissue, a foot spa put neat acid on my feet despite me warning them, of course they had no 3rd party liability, I did consider phoning the regulator, but thought the insurance company would simply refuse to pay out on any claims

I noticed this in BANGKOK those 70 baht heinz beans are made in China, in Bangkok they had the British ones priced at 139 baht, and on the next isle the Chinese ones at 70 baht, the labels looked identical until you read the small print. maybe i should have tried the 70 baht ones

There was a post from an English trained nurse who had retired moved to Thailand and worked in Hospitals as a kind of meet and greeter showing the patients around hospitals( no nursing done), she loved it this was just before covid, then she was made redundant. the pay was around 30 000 baht a month but added to her pension made a happy retirement

To work in Thailand as a nurse she will need to pass the Thai nursing exams which are written/spoken and all done in Thai, age wise can be a problem for all jobs in Thailand while there are plenty of older nurses they very likely started when they were much younger. Palliative care is not very advanced in Thailand, so her skill here could be very useful, my limited knowledge of palliative care here is most of the 'nursing' is done by Myanmar staff with Thais as supervisors( i am talking about care homes here) and Thai doctors who visit when required, so this might be an avenue to explore, private care homes are growing in Thailand, with her experience i am sure she would find work. The pay for nurses is not very good and there are plenty of nurse, shortages which can benefit her, best see what hospitals want with her english skills start at the top international hospitals

I noticed on the link you provided Sheryl, if you click on the link, people over 65 it does say between 6-12 months https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/shingles-vaccine/ People who turn 65 on or after 1 September 2023 From 1 September 2023, you're eligible for the shingles vaccine when you turn 65. You'll be offered 2 doses of the vaccine. These are given between 6 and 12 months apart. Your GP should contact you to make an appointment to have your shingles vaccine. Contact your GP surgery if you think you're eligible for the shingles vaccine and you've not been contacted about it. You'll remain eligible until your 80th birthday (but you can have your 2nd dose up until your 81st birthday). Information: If you turned 65 before 1 September 2023, you'll be eligible for the shingles vaccine when you turn 70.

Health insurance advice Retirement Visa
howerde replied to BexMan's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Seems odd from the London website it shows non o retirementhttps://london.thaiembassy.org/en/page/retirement-visa, i would not advice the O-A visa as it will tie you into a few approved medical insurers better to arrange cover from a decent insurer You can always enter Thailand visa exempt/tourist visa and apply inside Thailand( non o retirement) it is a 2 step process but easy enough -
I see this lady https://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/doctor/prof-dr-somlak-chuengsamarn my Diabetes was severe 3 years ago, i am no longer on medication, i just have 6 monthly check ups, she now teaches/practices in the public health system but does a day or so private work, i see her at Bumrungrad she does a morning shift there once a week. as far as diet/exercise goes, there was little on that aspect from any of the doctors i saw. it seems here it is down to the patient do the research, as there a number of medications available. you will have options by going private as opposed to the public health system
