  1. I would only insure with a foreign insurer who has an appeals process if that fails you can appeal to the ombudsman, all these protections do not exist in Thailand the insurer is judge and jury, your quotes will increase massively every year as they try to get rid of you.
  2. After my experience with a Thai insurer, i now self insure, i had a minor claim about 15000baht(first claim in 5 years), first they refused to pay out as i had not notified them within 24 hours, lucky for me my doctor sorted it, i to had a annual health check nothing was found but in my 60s usual thing get fit etc etc, after 3 months of my claim, the hospital contacted me and said the insurer wanted my hospital records i really had no choice but agree, then 2 months later they upped my premium 88% with loads of exclusions, even though the health check showed nothing, i did not renew.
  3. Just had my renewed passport back, took 6 weeks not bad, was expecting 11 weeks
  4. The British embassy no longer issue residence certificates, you will need to go to immigration
  5. I renewed my subscription a few weeks ago, no issues working fine
  6. If there is a pending application, i would cancel, but it might not make a difference, who knows how the system actually works, try putting another application in and see, let us know which is used
  7. I do mine at CW, few weeks ago it took 4 days, in the past if i have not been approved i cancel it online and resubmit at first it only took 1-2 days, now i am lucky if it is done by day 3, there is no phoneline help, i would cancel and resubmit
  8. This is not true, the figures are nothing like you state. i would like to see your source, There were just about as many immigrants from around the world, the latest figures show that only 3.4 million Europeans live in the UK and that includes dual nationals https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/eu-migration-to-and-from-the-uk/
  9. I recommended Thai Visa Express in Chonburi NOT Thai Visa Center totally different company
  10. Hi sorry to hear about the health issue, but remember you do not have to attend in person, your wife/friend/agent can do it for you, there are a number of agents, one i can recommend is Thai Visa Express i have used them in the past for visas, keyvisa in Pattaya come up a few times as a great service, if you use an agent then you can post the stuff to them, of course you will need to get the photos, but you have plenty of time to look at options
  11. My experience of a Thai insurer is that once there is a record of something at a hospital then that will be it you have a pre existing condition, i am amazed they took you on at all, but remember that if you make a claim do not be surprised if they turn it down down the pre existing condition will come into play there is no independent body to appeal to or ombudsman, get a foreign company i speak from personal experience
  12. It depends on the convention the 1949 convention gives you a 1 year IDP, The 1968 convention is a 3 year IDP, the issue is the DLT only makes reference to the 1949 convention, but as everything else in Thailand it might just depend who you see on the day https://www.dlt.go.th/en/renew-license
  13. I do not think the UK embassy will sign them, as it is not on their list of things they do https://www.gov.uk/guidance/notarial-and-documentary-services-guide-for-thailand#services-we-provide-in-thailand
  14. Hi I payed with a UK debit card, you fill a form in and take it to trendy with your application and photos, . the money is deducted in the UK not Bangkok, in my case 2 days after the form was delivered i believe if you use an agent they use their card, and you pay them
  15. You are correct the additional time that the UK added to your passport does not count if you are entering the EU (so valid only 10 years from issue) this does not apply to Thailand you passport is valid til expiry date, and i think this applies to all other countries, but better check countries, i sent mine off for renewal 5 weeks ago from Bangkok, it is a simple process, was told would take 11 weeks, just follow the link https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports The cost gbp 127.51 that includes courier fee
  16. It is a simple process simply follow the link https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports It might be easier to do it now and get it out of the way, who knows what extra hoops mighty come in the future, remeber they are british citizens so they will not be able to travel to the uk on a tourist visa they would need to apply for a certificate of entitlement, which will probably cist the same as a passport
  17. I share your concern, surely when you pay they would see the payment, have to say i am not comfortable with their email, i have used them for the last 2years with no issues, i did wonder if the email was actually a scam, but it did have the correct date of when my subscription runs out.
  18. I have eaten there the cornish pasty was very good, i would say it is more cafe/pub setting than a restaurant, most tables are outside with a few inside, i would go again if i was in the area, someone recommended the Londoner that is a great place, best sunday roast in bangkok, their menu is online. the last few times i have been there it has been packed if going at weekend i would book
  19. I have used Thai Visa Express in the past, based in Pattaya and would suggest contacting them if you really don't want to go to Bangkok, the link posted above by CharlieKO takes you through all the steps
  20. My mail is always delivered to the mail box outside the house (Bangkok), my mail is addressed in English and everything has always been delivered, including all the junk mail from the UK, i had all my pension stuff delivered 4 days after posting in the UK.
  21. It is not the embassy, it is the airline that you need to convince, as if you are denied entry then the airline has to fly you back, which is why airlines require a return ticket if you are on a tourist visa or visa exempt from the Finair site As a leisure traveller, you must have a return or an onward ticket to another country before departure. When you transit to Thailand through more than one airport in the Schengen Area, you might need a Schengen Visa. https://www.finnair.com/gb-en I have never heard or read about anyone being denied boarding with a return ticket, even if it is over the 60 day tourist visa, if you are concerned contact the airline direct, most have web chat, make sure you keep a record
  22. Unless his wife is a government worker then there is no free care, also unless he registers the marriage at an Amphur, then he wont be legally married, a Buddhist ceremony in a village is not a legal marriage(does he know this?), Is this her idea or his.
  23. The issue is your cover will be severely limited not just not diabetes, but anything related/associated with diabetes, one issue is a lowered immune system that alone will just about invalidate any claim, nerve damage/foot issues, blood vessel damage so increased stroke/heart attack, nerve damage affects eyes amongst other/gum disease, kidney issues, i would stay with the insurer you are with, i was told no Thai insurer would cover you at all with diabetes, not sure about foreign insurers but with so many exclusions a payout might not happen, you will need everything in writing, i had to go the self insurance route
  24. I guess this is Chang Wattana Bangkok, you need to have a 90 day report filed, about 3 years ago, when not living here, i contacted an agent in Pattaya, who said they could do it, but i would need to do a TM 30 report there, then it would work, i never bothered, just used my Uk license until i moved here, like every thing else things are different at every office or even on different days
  25. The British embassy no longer issue residence documents in Thailand. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/notarial-and-documentary-services-guide-for-thailand Proof of address You can obtain a residence certificate from your local immigration office. Most authorities and banks in Thailand will accept a Thai Work Permit, household registration or a residency certificate from the Thai Immigration Bureau as proof of your address.
