My wife had a green card, but we live in Thailand. She had to return to the USA each year, of course. On the 3rd year, the immigration officer told her, "You don't live in the USA, so you don't qualify for the card. I'll let you in this time, but it will be confiscated next year if you aren't really residing in America." The 10 year tourist visa is much better for your situation. Good luck.

Suggestions for a new, not to expensive, laptop for retiree.
donmuang37 replied to khaepmu's topic in IT and Computers
I bought a laptop from Amazon.com because I don't need a Thai keyboard. Shipped to Thailand free (I'm a Prime member.) AND no duty to import computers to Thailand. Arrived in about 10 days; no problems. Mine was a high end 17" so more expensive than you want, it cost 50% of a similar mode in Thailand. Good luck! -
SUV versus Motorcycles in Thailand
donmuang37 replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Interesting, but sort of an "apple and oranges" comparison. How many people and saying, "Hmm... should I buy an SUV or a motorcycle?" And it totally overlooks two major considerations: 1. Safety! 80% of traffic fatalities in Thailand are motorcyclists. 2. Comfort: Motorcycles aren't so comfortable during the hot and rainy seasons! -
Do people get island fever living on an island?

Real answer: Some people do and others don't. -
Wow!! A useful post from Bob Smith. Well done, Bob! That is excellent advice; I hope he follows it! Good luck to the OP!

Full agree with Nick! Very poor journalism. There are no details available yet. Nobody knows the actual implications! -
Tourist Visa to USA for Thai GF
donmuang37 replied to trav2021's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Think about it! Impossible! If she did a runner, how could you "guarantee" her return? And some have done that. Immigration staff aren't stupid! But good luck! -
There's some misinformation here. Melatonin is available in Thailand. Last week I bought a bottle 180 3 mg capsules of NOW brand melatonin at a vitamin kiosk in Future Park Rangsit Mall. They have an excellent selection of melatonin and various vitamins or supplements. I think their prices are fair given their expenses and the cost of rent in the mall. They are very pleasant to deal with plus you can see what you are purchasing. I've been doing business with them for years.

Disagreed with delgarcon. A number of posters have given good advice. I've done many SWIFT transfers over the past 20 years to SCB and to K-Bank without a hiccup. So, I agree with those who say use SWIFT - and send the foreign currency. The Thai banks want my US dollars and give me a better exchange rate than my US bank gives me to buy Thai baht. As for fees - they are insignificant if you are making a 2 million baht purchase. These days my SWIFT transfers arrive in only 1 or 2 days. Good luck.

You are clearly going to the wrong place. I have had the same eye doc for 21 years. She speaks English and dispenses excellent eye glasses. She uses Nikon lenses... which are made in Thailand, but to Nikon QA standards. Not dirt cheap, but reasonable. Looks like your attempt to scrimp has backfired! Sorry about that.

My (Thai) partner is losing her hair. Can anything be done?
donmuang37 replied to giddyup's topic in Health and Medicine
As suggested in other posts, this forum is not the best source of info for such a problem. My 68 year old wife had been suffering some hair loss. She went to the Skin Clinic at Thammasat University Hospital, Rangsit and their treatment appears to be working. Best of luck to your wife. -
Hospital recommendation: Neurology
donmuang37 replied to In the jungle's topic in Health and Medicine
Agree that Sheryl is a real gem here. Many thanks, Sheryl. I would like to add that Thammasat University Hospital in Rangsit would be convenient for the OP. I have been treated for many things there and am pleased with them. I use Premium Care and am currently seeing a spine specialist due to age deterioration which is causing my spine to press on nerves which is weakening my legs. Happy with the care I am receiving. . Best of luck!! -

I've been to Italy. The expert pickpockets there have no respect either! Fortunately, we were warned in advance. Oh, oh and the Mafia doesn't have any respect. So much for respect in Italy! -

Computers come into Thailand duty free. Not sure if a Chromebook qualifies. I bought a 17" hi-spec HP notebook from Amazon for 50% of what a similar spec unit cost in BKK. Free shipping, no duty and just a small admin fee ($60?). Delivered to my house in under 2 weeks. No drama. Good luck.
