Proof of life for American Social Security
Thailand J replied to Felton Jarvis's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
You did not misread, the post clearly said 800k. I would prefer to put 800K in the bank and file FBAR instead of managing 65k per month every month and watch the balance just to avoid FBAR reporting. It only takes a few minutes to file FBAR online. Unless you have you reasons to avoid reporting. -

Proof of life for American Social Security
Thailand J replied to Felton Jarvis's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
no. I still get the letter while my SS monthly benefit is deposited in a NY bank. I have a Thai address filed with the IRS on 1040 tax return and the same Thai address was given to SS when I applied for benefits. -
Parking is not allowed at Rompho market after 2:30pm. About 2 months ago I parked my car there at 1:50pm to go to the immigration to get a multi re entry permit. After the IO accepted my passport and application, I asked him will the passport be ready in 15 minutes. "This is not 7-Eleven." he said. "ha?" " You want 15 minutes goto 7-Eleven." Nice guy. I rushed back to the market, moved my car, and returned to immigration office to find my passport ready, in about 10 minutes. I left Jomtein before 2:30 pm.

Am I the only one using (Indian) 'cook in sauces'?
Thailand J replied to BritManToo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I only cook Malaysian curry with Baba's curry powder I bought from Malaysia, lately available on Lazada or Shopee. My secret ingredient is the curry leaves from my own tree here in my yard in Pattaya. Served with steamed rice or frozen roti from Makro. Also makes great chiang mai style kao soi curry egg noodle soup. Follow the recipe in this video as close as possible. -
Air deflector (possibly wrong terminology) for air conditioner units
Thailand J replied to JayClay's topic in DIY Forum
Have you tried using the "swing" button on the remote? Set the ventilating flaps to a fix position .Use a ceiling fan or floor standing fan to circulate the air in the room if needed. -
Take a mini bus from Pattaya to the border and after the Cambodia immigration, share a taxi to SR. There is a mini bus station near the Pattaya Tai and Sukhumvit junction, next to Esso. https://goo.gl/maps/cYmGY11FCJBaiMTn9 4 years ago the mini bus stopped here, about 1km from the border where I shared a tuktuk to goto the border: https://goo.gl/maps/KRxaiMe2jLnQvNuL9 They may have moved the station closer to the border, I don't know. To share a taxi, after immigration exit walk strait ahead to a traffic circle and you will see taxis waiting there. Shared taxi will take you to your hotel at no additional charge. You can also hop on a free shuttle bus right after the immigration exit and be taken to a bus station, from where you can wait an hour for a bus or share a mini bus to goto SR bus station, where you need to get a tuktuk to go to your hotel.

Freon stays in the coil, it circulates between the outside compressor and the inside unit. After being cooled down at the outside unit it flows b into the inside unit to cool down the room, all the while stays inside the coil. It is not released into the outside air. Dust from the air has nothing to do with the cooling system, it's exterior, you have to deal with it when you store anything outdoor. Normally the a/c tech will hose down the outside unit to remove the dust during a/c cleaning, which is needed every 6 months.

Moderna Bivalent shots at Banglamung Hospital near the Naklua market. Thurs 8am-noon, Sat 8am-3pm. 1380B for farang.
-
Let me try. Outside: The freon is compressed and becomes hot. The fan blows air to cool down the compressor and the freon inside it. Inside: The freon in the coil is decompressed, it expands in volume and becomes cool. As air in the room passes through the coil it becomes cool. Freon remains inside the coil and there is no gas exchange. If your freon leaks you need to call for service.

My drip machine takes any brand of powder 555.

Been using a drip machine 40+ years with paper filter, not about to change. Read somewhere paper filter helps to remove coffee oil don't know how far it's true.

Bon Cafe coffee is cheaper at Makro. Try all of the flavors see which do you like best. I like the Mocca, with Arabica and Robusta mixed. I used to order Hillkoff online, directly from Chiang Mai. It is also available on Lazada. New shop now in Pattaya. Sukhumvit 73: https://goo.gl/maps/7X48pn1V5Rwu8CBu8

Jomtien Immigration
Thailand J replied to thailand49's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It's not difficult to park on beach road and on Second Road M-F. The bath bus route is close by, 10B or 20B if you had to park too far. Of all the visits to the immigration, I have never ever seen the 40B parking lot across the immigration office being full. As I've said, avoid Mondays, Fridays and anyday before and after a holiday, don't show up in a herd at the opening house. -

You should down load and print the receipt after successfully filing online. -

Location is not the problem. The problem is the main building being too small. It should be a multi-story office building. The solution now is to keep the Q outside , once you have entered the main building, everything moved very fast. I tried to avoid the long Q by not going on Monday, Friday, anyday before or after a holiday. Also don't show up all at once at opening hour. -

Jomtein already have a separate line or 90 days. 90 Days and TM30 can be done online. -
Also the yearly tax expiration date stays the same, tho you will get a new tax sticker when you get the new plate. You'll need to buy por-ror-bor to pay yearly tax if it has expired. If I am not wrong transfer request fee is 5B, transfer fee is 100B, new plate 200B, stamp duty 500B per 100,000B car value. If you don't want to wait, you can goto seller's DLT to cancel the registration, which can be done right away. Then goto local DLT to transfer name, get new plate right away. This may not be a good idea if you have to drive the car home from the seller's province without valid registration. I did this and took my bike on my Revo to Isaan.
-
If you buy one from BKK; unlike in the past, now you need to get a new plate at the province where you stay. First visit to your local DLT is to notify the DLT at the seller's province to cancel the old registration, may take two weeks. Second visit is to have the vehicle inspected and get a new number plate. You will not get a new book. The new plate number will be noted on the front page of the old book which you will continue to use. In Thailand basic compulsory insurance stays with the vehicle. You only need to buy new por-ror-bor if it has expired.
