  1. Our system has been running for one year now. It could be called self-install but I received a huge amount of help from a friend on the tech side (had to endure his insults though) …lol … and a couple of guys to fix the panels on a basically flat South facing roof. In total about 160,000Baht. So for that … Sofar Hybrid Inverter 5kWs (HYD5000ES) LVTOPSUN LV41800 Battery 7*340W Poly cells and 7*450W Mono cells All switch boxes, cables, cell mounting equipment etc. If the Solarman data is correct then we generated 5240kWhrs and exported 958kWhrs. When needed we operate on anti-reflux enabled to keep our monthly MEA usage to between 50 and 100kWhrs…could have made it zero! The max generation that we have seen is 4.5kWs. We have a PHEV that will do IRO 15kms on a charge and if running around that distance with battery empty we would use about 2Ltrs of gasoline. Probably averaged 4-5 battery charges on the PHEV each week. Between deciding to install solar and installation we replaced the two downstairs 18,000btu air con units with the most efficient Daikin units. This really nullified any before and after comparison as now we run those most of the day whereas before we operated the aircon somewhat more sparingly. Previously our monthly electric bills ranged from 1600Baht to 3500baht…now its 200-350Baht. Would we install again …YES as we are both are not so young and just ’need’ more aircon and of course we have the PHEV (4 years now). Would we still go Hybrid, present thinking is probably not as the payback on the battery is huge and of course living where we do power cuts are almost unknown. But we are somewhat future proofed. Am experimenting with DOD at 90%...seems to be ok so far. Maybe useful information for someone … or maybe not…
  2. Scuba …I had you down as being mildly intelligent. Are you really going to practice what you posted… come on this is just clickbait yes
  3. I find that the smell/taste totally depends upon the brand… some brands I find quite ok and others not so. I have always assumed that it is the cheaper brands that I find not okay but maybe that is not actually correct.
  4. This association is open to all who are forty five years old and more. They play monthly at different courses around Thailand, but generally not too far away from Bangkok. Normally the price to play is 1500Baht which includes Green Fee, Caddy Fee and a Buggie as well as a meal and awards. If you don’t have your own transport I understand that you may be able to join with some others in pre-arranged transport. Awards are the normal, longest drive, nearest the pin plus overall low gross and net, plus low net and runner up in each age category. I believe that there are six age categories plus ladies. This month there were 140 golfers playing, groups of six people so obviously some tees were loaded twice. Start times tend to be either 8:30 am or lunchtime. They have a Facebook page called … Thailand Senior Golfers’ Association – TGSA – English Version. You have to play three times before you are eligible for any age group award. You can make up your own groups, if not enough others will normally be added to make up the six. Last month they played at Watermill, this month was Khao Cha-Ngok, October is the Royal Thai Air Force course at Patham Thani, November should have been Pinehurst but now changed to Watermill again and December the Royal Thai Army course in Bangkok. It tends to be a ‘fun day’ and efforts are made to ‘ensure fair play’. MrsJ and myself have played on and off with this group over the last twelve years or so. You can apply to play either by phone 084-0780724 or info on their FB page. As an aside, if you want a real challenge go and play Khao Cha-Ngok. Greens are so fast and difficult. On one green I landed in the wrong place and the ball came back to my feet twice!! Mrs J and myself ended up with the highest scores we can ever remember. Many many players scored very high. If you want accommodation there Pre-Cadet is okay and the accommodation at Watermill is good, both around 1200Baht.
  5. You should find what you want in Bang Phli…just google …buy used car spares in Bang Phli and you will find several places
  6. TBH …the best thing that you can do is to book him a course of lessons with a Teaching Pro. If he has been ‘playing’ for some while 18 holes should not be a problem. My wife, who plays off 18, is still capable of taking a large amount of golf course before the ball and me even more so. Lol. Don’t worry …if you think you are holding other golfers up …let them through…..
  7. I looks like you are serious ...So ...I happen to know one of the two guys who started the JDC club in Thailand. If you send me your contact details I'll mention what you are looking for to him. Maybe also PM them to Crossy, as I hardly ever read AN now and certainly don't log on...he will pass them on. MrsJ has a tiny interest in a newley opened Mercedes repair shop ... at present they have a W211 S600 in for repairs ... that is 'kin quick. Seems you are set on a Jag ... the W211 is a great car and not that expensive to maintain ... anyway that is no problem to you ......enjoy
  8. Up here with MrsJ playing the course for a few days … it’s owned by the army and costs a very reasonable 700Baht, green fee and caddy fee. No dual pricing …. The fairways can be a bit firm in places … it’s no good just hammering the ball down the middle else you can be surprised with water crossing. Some interesting par 3s. Greens are fast and some have quite deceptive slopes. Will come and play again. We stayed D11 Hotel. 700-800Baht. Wanted to stay O U hotel as has a nice swimming pool but fully booked as some university thing on for three days. Guys … better read this quick just in case …………
  9. Did my annual extension at Nonthaburi last Thursday … arrived there 9:15am and was finished by 10:30am … before that arrived at my bank 8:30am to collect paperwork and then a twenty minute drive to Immigration. TBH I really don’t find it that much of a hassle … they only asked for one copy of everything …
  10. A litle bit wrong ... MrsJ passed her UK driving test first time .........
  11. YES….I have a Citi CC and use it at Makro
  12. MrsJ and myself have both accounts with BB and CIMB. Very good service from the bank branches. However phoning BB is a different matter. Try to avoid that like the plague.
  13. A new one is now open. You get up to five days and you only pay 60% of the room cost. Scheme lasts until the end of April. This time it is easier to book as the hotel does it for you. As previous only Thais can book. MrsJ has already booked our five days.
  14. Troll post removed … please stick to sensible and useful answers.
  15. We live not far from junction of Chaengwattana and Prachachuen Road. A guy in the village has a ‘station’ Air Visual App.. right now AQI is 171 and 2.5 is 93.8. Air purifiers are running flat out in our house
  16. Suppose will have to go to doctors again. I assume that it is too much of a risk to leave it is as most likely a bacterial infection. Guess he was hoping for some advice as to how long he can avoid not getting antibotics again, does he really need to see a doctor tomorrow. are throat infections likely to clear on their own.
  17. HoloRoof are in Nonthaburi. If I remember correctly the guy imports the sheets from Indonesia. He has a huge stock so availability is not a problem. I have seen Chinese copies advertised so be careful. Our carport is quite wide so we had to have quite some steelwork to prevent excessive sag. You will have to ask the guy …he speaks english …about load bearing… but yes it’s very strong and sheets are not exactly light …. We are not far from ChaengWattana immigration so if ever around that way come and look if you wish. As an aside we also used 2M screw piles instead of conventional piling. I’ll find some pics later of ‘during construction’ … When I had a search for you there were several more videos
  18. When we had the Car Port buil we used a double skinned uPVC product, comes in sheets. The company goes under the name of HoloRoof. I know now that this product has been copied by the Chinese ... as you would expect. During heavy rain it is surprisingly quite. The roof is now supporting 14 Solar panels. There is a short video ... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=206854153579377
  19. If I can use my credit card to pay, I do. All other times my wife pays … even tips my caddie when we play golf. Of course her bank account needs frequent topping up …..
  20. Now there is some tie-up between Citi and UOB…UOB have taken over Citi consumer banking. I have a Citi Credit Card ….I am retired …I don’t have to ‘lock away’ any money …my normal limit is 160,000 Baht. I have to pay all off each month. If I don’t spend 300,000 Baht a year then there is a charge for the card..MrJ doesn’t have any problem helping me with that ….. I don’t have any bank account with Citi …just BB and CIMB Thai
  21. Nothing wrong with women in their 40’s, many are extremely attractive …twenty year ago I married MrsJ when she was 48 …best thing I ever did in my whole life.
  22. Come on … we are all waited with bated breath as to what will be found when you remove the pan…watch out for snake lol
  23. We have three valves … his and hers bum guns plus the toilet supply …true…
  24. Judging by that pic …you maybe should have a can of mozzy spray handy when you eventually get the pan out …also have something ready to seal the soil pipe …water in a plastic bag … rags etc BUT tie some string to whatever as you don’t want a bigger problem ie blocked pipe. ????
  25. My toilet has a 20cm gap ..the rear is 7cm from the wall. So I didn’t have a big problem accessing the studs. Can you get your hand in to feel if it is bolted down …can you feel the two nuts. I cannot say for sure BUT I think mine wasn’t bolted down initially. it was just sitting on a bed of something like white cement …but it was actually a pink colour. If your wife is dainty/thin boned ask he to put her hand in and feel around for the nuts. If the plumber set it on a thick cement bed it will be reasonably easy, although time consuming, to chip out. Post a photo of where the pan joins the floor…if you can chip a bit out to show how close it is to the tiles …of course he might have glued it to the floor…. enjoy
