  1. That's a lot of 200 baht "incentives"
  2. What legal measures might they be? Let me guess. 10 years in prison? No chance. 2 million baht compensation paid to the families? No chance. Being prosecuted by the Thai legal system? No chance. Shave your head and become a monk for a week then carry on with your life like nothing ever happened? Check ✔️ As long the mentally of "accidents happen and no one is ever to blame" prevails then the power poles will continue to claim victims of a regular basis. This would be so easy to fix if the authorities had the balls.
  3. I know that some people might not believe this but not everyone has their phone in their hand 24 hours a day. If you are someone who actually has a life then a quick flick of the wrist to check the time is, and will always be the way to go.
  4. Mine has my address in English and Thai written on the back. I presume that this is normal for driving licenses issued to foreigners.
  5. The VFS office is located more or less opposite the Maya shopping mall, which is easy to find on Google maps. It is located on the top floor of an office building. They do have lifts so you don't have to worry about stairs. They have their own car park and when I went earlier this year there was plenty of spaces available. I applied in March and I booked an appointment via email. I believe that they are only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I was quoted a 13 week delivery time. For payment you have to download and to fill in the payment form from the UK government website. I paid with a UK debit card. You can also download the application forms from the same site. For renewals you don't need someone fill in countersignature section, at least that's what they told me after I went searching for someone to do it! You need official proof of your Thai address in written in English. I used my Thai driving license. You can't apply using a UK address. You will also need colour photo copies of every page of your old passport.
  6. An antiperspirant stops you sweating. A deodorant just masks bad odors.
  7. Apparently there are two tropical storms rolling in next week so everywhere should get a good downpour. So flooded will be the next thing to worry about.
  8. Well if you covered your entire body with it then I guess you wouldn't need to shower for 72 hours! In theory deodorants can stop you getting sweaty armpits for up to 72 hours, with out reapplication.
  9. Well it might be the last coronation that the British tax payer will have to fork out for. It certainly should be.
  10. If you're going to ride a motorcycle here then at the very least you should have good accident insurance. And I'm sure, if they could be bothered the police could track down to hit and run driver...
  11. That's because it's not a bank holiday and we no longer have dragons roaming the countryside.
  12. This is what I already do. But those little Bluetooth receiver devices are as cheap as chips on Lazada. Some of them sell for less than 100 baht! Almost too cheap really. So, I'm just curious if anyone has had any personal experience of them, that's all.
  13. As I understand it, you plug this unit into the headphone jack socket on your car radio/audio system and then connect your phone via Bluetooth to the device. And then, in theory you can play songs straight from you phone through the speakers in your car,
  14. Out of interest, has any one purchased one of these Bluetooth music receivers for their older car? And if so did it work!
  15. Later this year my wife and I plan to take our 8 Year old grandson from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then onto a currently undecided beach resort for a short holiday. I have never booked air tickets or flown with for a child before and I'm completely ignorant as to what the procedure is. So I have a couple of questions. Apologies if they seem really dumb.... Firstly, does my 8 year grandson need Official ID to board a plane? Obviously he will be traveling with us. He currently doesn't have a Thai ID card yet. I gather that at 7 years old he is eligible for one but the first time you apply you need to have a parent or legal guardian present to sign the paperwork. The problem being that his father is deceased and his mother (my wife's daughter) can't be bothered to travel up to travel up from her nice little life in Bangkok to do the necessaries. Secondly when you book an air ticket for a child you presumably need a English translation of their actual name? Now obviously if he had an ID card then you could just copy what was on there. So will any rough translation of his name suffice? Thanks in advance.
  16. Well no because the many amulets located in their vehicles and about their persons will protect them a lot of the time!
  17. When they have run out of water.
  18. I'm sure that the government are satisfied with these figures and are now sweeping all the evidence underneath the rug a quickly as possible.
  19. Thais have to be the world's slowest drivers!!! From my experience a huge percentage of Thais have only know how to drive/ride one way. Maximum velocity at all times no matter what the road conditions.
  20. One thing to bear in mind is that they are much noiser than regular fans, particularly when you turn the fan up to full speed. It's like having a jet engine in the room! We have one that I bought some years ago to try in our bedroom. Like others have said it just created way too much humidity within the room even with the window open. So I use ours outside now because there is a notable difference with the coolness of the air it kicks out compared to a normal fan.
  21. I downloaded the payment form from the GOV.UK website.
  22. Anything you sit astride on is being ridden. Examples being a motorcycle, bicycle, tricycle, horse, camel, or an ostrich. Nearly everything with four wheels you drive. Obviously a quad bike being one exception.
