I trying to mentally picture the Thai police force donning riot gear and trying to protect us foreigners from a raging mob if similar events were to happen here... Nope, it's just not happening!

If your bank book won't update in a machine there maybe a problem with the magnetic strip. Although I don't use the same bank as you, I know from experience that if you report the problem in local branch they should be able to reset it. Also, branches of banks that are not in supermarkets or shopping malls normally open at 8:30am.

Udon Thani: Toddler drowns, grandfather kills family dog in grief
Dmaxdan replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
These people are just incapable of excepting responsibility. They always have to blame someone or something else for all their own failings. 2 year olds have to be supervised 100% of the time. He clearly didn't do that and should be man enough to pay the price.- 30 replies

Alcohol Sales Prohibited in Thailand on July 20-21, 2024

Indeed, it's interesting that there are people out there that actually assume that we are all the same. In my opinion there are few things better than savoring a good glass of wine or a quality beer. -

Foreigner Caught on Video Urinating on Busy Phuket Street - video

Why on earth do you think that there is a risk using the Lazada app? My phone automatically locks the app away, along with my banking apps in it's payment safety box for extra security. As with most apps you can set up facial recognition and finger print for extra security. And let's not forget that many of the Thai banks are no longer accessable through web browsers, only phone apps. I do a lot of shopping on Lazada but I haven't logged into my account on the website for probably a couple of years now. In my humble opinion, the app is infinity more user friendly.

What do you think of women with tattoos?
Dmaxdan replied to MalcolmB's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I think the old ideology that Thai female with tattoo equals sex worker is a bit outdated. I would say that most if not all of the 20 - 40 year old women that that live in my village have tattoos. Non of which are bar girls. They are all university educated, happily married mums who do real jobs. -

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Dmaxdan replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I agree but the cynics will just say to the Thai revenue department aren't interested in anything like that, all they care about is just bleeding you dry. Whilst completely ignoring that the vast majority of Thai people will never pay so much as one baht of tax in their entire lives, no matter how much they earn. Supporting the Thai population through taxation and getting sweet FA in return isn't a very attractive proposition. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Dmaxdan replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It might also "clear out" a lot of good people. Spouses, fathers and mothers etc. Real people (not sexpats) who are prepared to make sacrifices and devot their lives for the greater good of their families. And because of this many may no longer be able to do so, not at the same level anyway. The riff raff you speak of are, in real terms a very small minority. And let's not forget that Thailand is almost completely incapable of taxing it's own citizens. -

UK warns British tourists to behave in Thailand or face jail time

All they have to do is search their luggage before they board the plane a Heathrow. If they find wife beater vests, football shirts or union jack shorts just don't let them board the aircraft. Easy.- 136 replies

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Dmaxdan replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I've never really been that worried about filing a tax return and potentially paying tax in Thailand. In real terms I only transfer small amounts into Thailand each month. But what does concern me big time is the actual logistics of doing a tax return properly. I live in Chiang Mai province with, apparently 30,000 other long term expats. How the hell are the RD in Chiang Mai going to process that many ignorant foreigner's tax returns within the first three months of the year??? We will all have to all camp out the night before just in the vain hope of getting a slot!!! This is a side of this that the government hasn't thought through... Okay, so maybe a percentage of the long term expats may work here and therefore pay tax on their salaries. But even so... People will say "get an accountant or a financial advisor" but there can't possibly be enough English speaking advisors to go around. And none of them can start working for you until this year is over.
