  1. JT ... I really think your song above is not in the flavour of the OP

... maybe you could start an OP entitled 'gay anthems'

    .

I don't totally get it then. Those were Christian songs. Only Christian songs are welcome here, or not? If so, I think non-Christians would appreciate that being stated explicitly. You know this kind of topic reminds me of an issue that gay people in general face, social assumption of heterosexuality. Is there some kind of assumption of Christian orientation here?

JT I've attended a few Jewish services in my life and some Cantors can sing and move a congregation - perhaps other members would like to hear, if I knew the names I'd post them.

  2. Music is a VERY big subject, that's all. It would be helpful in my opinion to narrow it down.

Music is indeed a broad topic, allow me to add, this thread hit me. I lost an Aunt last week and there was a family Christening over the week end, back home - obviously I didn't attend and my heart was heavy thinking about family and friends in Church celebrating (as they say now) the end of one life and the beginning of another life. A thread in the gay forum for gays to post spiritual or moving songs I think is spot on. I like hearing and learning what other gay posters are interested in, it doesn't always have to be about the rights and struggles in some foreign land does it ?

I'd like to see more topics about books we've read, music, pets, cooking, travel, romance et al, the ladies forum and others certainly have a broad range of topics.

Now back to the music, no Cher or Bette Midler please :)

  3. Anyone know where I can buy cinammom in Bangkok?

Powder everywhere - tesco, big C, villa, tops

Bark - I saw a new health food store in Paradise Park basement level and they sold it in circa 500 baht

if you're looking at other foods that lower, check out bitter melon and also matoom tea, dried bael is available everywhere (it's the tea they serve after a massage - of course omit the sugar)

  4. I do understand this. I treat it every day at home. You can cure it. Normal people doing the same diet will end up DIABETIC. Why do you think it us tge fastest growing disease of the western world?. Because most eat junk food...heaos of processed food and far far far too much.

Proper diets keeo you CURED. Reverting back you get diabetes back. Everything... I mean Everything. ..in moderation.

Ps I have cured hundreds. If you go back to shit food...you get shit diseases to put it bluntly.

"proper diets keep you CURED", you say. You claim you're a medico, but it's obvious by this statement you don't understand diabetes and didn't understand a word I said.

It's not difficult for diabetics to show good numbers with proper control, but they are not cured. I diabetic with his blood sugar under control will never be the same as a normal person.

Not so. But I will allow you your PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL OPINION.... nice to see so many retired gps here assisting the world

Please post your statistics ..... are you published ?

I await some raw data, as a 20 year plus- BSc, MPharm(Hons), BPharm, PharmD (Hons) with over 3000 diabetic patients treated/maintained, I've never ever had a patient say they were cured.

It's okay if your data is no more than a sales pitch, I'll read it as a diabetic which I am.......and we can let the forum decide quackery or not with my 2 satang.

  5. Gravlax (home made), multi grain rye crispbread (the ones that taste like carboard) - often a soft poached egg and oatmeal. I do like yoghurt and mango every now and then but I'm hungry and hour later when I eat fruit.

If I'm in the mood I will eat bitter melon and scrambled eggs - read up about bitter melon and diabetes.

Weekends are another story often a fry up and vegetarian the rest of the day.

  6. Try black pepper on your strawberries - I'm not kidding the flavours explode. It doesn't take away from them being sweet it complements the flavour.

I have my family addicted to a few drops of balsamic vinegar on vanilla ice cream. Either buy a premium aged balsamic or reduce a less expensive one - just a few drops.

Salt on grapefruit and musk melon back home, lots of folks do it.

  7. There's a lot to digest in the article - I'm pleased Richard and his partner feel welcomed, I believe Thailand is extremely tolerant, marketing for pink dollars has been discussed in another thread and I'm sure 99.9 % of global gays realise Thailand warts and all is a pretty decent place to holiday.

The two lesbians wanting equal marriage rights, it's coming and it doesn't matter what it's called.

As for the statistics - 15% were not accepted by family I can only say from personal experience it takes time. When the inlaws realised I was violating their beloved son I was worse than a house ghost, soi dog, canal rat twenty odd years later I get a good night kiss. The rest of the statistics whilst painful to read I believe could be lower than in some smaller communities in the west (I wouldn't want to be gay in the Bible Belt in the USA - no flame intended)

I did find the rest of the article a bit of a rant - yes marriage/ civil unions are coming, Thais are generally law abiding and have respect for His Majesty, Lord Buddha and Country, when it becomes law I think they will be much more tolerant if they are not already.

NB : Next long article should have a warning to grab your reading glasses :)

  8. Here is the Losge brand from the USA in stock at True Value K village , they also have large flat griidle pans and the ones with the grill ridges but I was asked not to take pictures.

  9. Never used a cast iron pan, but used a camp oven many a time.

Always washed it any which way, certainly would have used soap at various times.

Wonder how to get grease and fat out of it though to clean it.....I know that defeats the purpose, but you can have too much grease in it and cannot put it away in the cupboard covered in fat etc.

Anyway. I want all 3, the 2 size pans and an oven, shall be in Bkk this weekend if anyone can advise where to get the raro ones.

I shall be in soi 26 also, so might go and look there....where is this K market place, is it the group of shops on left at the end of soi 26 near rama 4?

Yes and True Value has stock.

  10. Is it true you should not use detergent to wash it ?

If so, what do you use....just water ? I presume hot, what if you do not have running hot water ?

It's true, also don't cook anything with acid - tomatoes especially as it can wear off the seasoning.

I believe the trick is in the prep heat temperature, get that right and nothing will stick making the clean up super easy just a wipe and I always return to the heat for a second and then apply a thin coating of rice bran oil with kitchen paper. The water doesn't need to be hot just tap water will suffice and if need be the scour pad rubbed lightly with salt.

It sounds like a lot of work but well worth it, they last forever and sear the food better than anything out there. Brine a chicken breast and cook it in a cast iron pan and you'll be hooked.

  11. How smooth is the cooking surface?

Yes those little ridges are still there, but with all the use I would it's 70% of the surface of the old boy. The advantage here was we just bought streaky bacon junks (pork belly) and seasoned it that way. We only use rice bran oil or olive oil not the palm or other oils so I think that's helped a bit- could be wrong.

We did have a set back the MIL cooked something and added lime juice :)

I did buy a cheapo back home that was made in China and it was crap and ended up tossing it. Lodge is the US brand and it's good quality.
