  1. I am an occasional gambler. I have been to a few casinos over the years in various countries.

I work out exactly how much money I can loose and stick to it. I don't chase my loses and when I reach my limit I walk away. If on the odd occasion I win I still walk away thinking I enjoyed that.

Vegas was the best because they gave you free drinks when you were playing and I worked out long ago that playing sensibly I could drink more in money terms than I was loosing. Result a slightly <deleted> me who actually saved money on my bar bill.

I would love the Ambassador to open up as a casino but only if like Vegas you had free drinks.

Agreed, and when they say they don't want to use it for anything other than as a phone they soon change their minds! ????

No they don't. I have gone many years without a smart phone and only the fact that I can't call a Bolt taxi has has convinced me that I need one. I have had  a PC that has provided all my internet needs for many years.

Also I'm not on Social Media so I don't need to send photos of my dinner to anyone , who probably  don't give a monkey's anyway. I hope this help explains  what I want and why I want a cheap phone with a cheap internet package.

  3. I have finally decided to buy a smart phone, I have resisted the temptation for years but the other day stuck indoors because of the rain  I would have liked to call Bolt for a taxi.

What I want is a cheap phone as long as its got reasonable camera with a prepaid sim. Being an ignoramus when it comes to technology it needs to be simple and easy to use. I don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles of on expensive phone.

I looked at Dtac  and others  but just get confused about what is available and what it means. I will still use my normal phone for speech

    and SMS.

I know most people out there have and use smart phones and have done for years so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    Looking forward to your replies.

  4. I originally asked this some time ago but using search didn't show anything. So I'm looking for up to date information on Massage Parlors in Phetchabun Town (or close). I shall be traveling there next month and I do like a good foot or Thai massage.

  5. I have asked this before but as they start opening up again I just want to check. All I want is a walking (running) machine with a TV (or similar) in front of it. I don't care what is showing on the TV I just want something to look at. I just wont to walk.

As I get older I find walking on uneven pavements a problem and I don't want to walk on the road. A nice flat surface of a running machine suits me fine. Obviously the cheaper the better.

I live just of Thepprasit Road so something near would be better but not essential. .  I was a life member of Tony's for many years and that suited me fine. So suggestions please.

I think they all sell small bottles, one was on Buakhao top of Soi Honey

I thought "that's handy" especially as I was going to the bank in Soi Buakao today. It was closed. Can you say where any other of the pharmacies are.

    Thanks

i tried 4 pharmacies today in Pattaya and they only sold the very small bottles, one guy said big bottles are difficult to get. i guess there's always Lazada and Shopee but I'm not that bothered. I wonder why its in such short supply, maybe used for another dodgy purpose

Which pharmacies did you try. I only want a small bottle.

  8. Any body know where to buy in Pattaya. I used to buy it in Boots at the Avenue but when I went in yesterday they said they not have. I tried another Boots and a Fascino but got the same answer.

  9. I want to buy some golf shoes. The ones I have now (from Decathlon) are becoming uncomfortable, I would like some recommendations about  make , comfort and price. Comfort is my main concern followed by price, I don't really want to go much more than 3,000, Any suggestions, also the name of the shop in Pattaya  where they can be purchased.

    Thanks

  10. First time I had a swim here (early 80s) I cut my foot open on a broken bottle. The last time was about 10 years ago. We were spending the day at Pattaya Park. We decided to leave the ladies and go for a dip in the sea. Came out itching all over. Haven't swum in the sea since..

  11. I read somewhere between 2 and 3 books a week. Real ones. I don't have a Kindle. I keep one in the loo so I have something to look at and the other one by my armchair, This one normally gets read when I have have sport on the TV as a background. . All fiction. SF and fantasy (although not so much SF nowadays) and crime. All the main authors.

I've just reread Song of Fire and Ice Game of Thrones I had forgotten how much the TV serial had left out. Anyone who enjoyed the TV will be amazed at how much better the novels carry the story. I'm just about to start Storm of Swords Book 1.

One regret about a Kindle is that in Pattaya we are down to one secondhand bookshop so the choice of books is not as good as it was a few years ago. So I might end up getting a Kindle anyway. I seem to remember an article I read not long ago ago that the sales of real books was actually increasing. Long may it continue to do so.

  12. Things change. Years ago I used to drink Barolo at 15 pounds a bottle. Mind you I always used to share it with my mate. I found that 3 glasses during dinner. was enough.

Now when at home I drink Mont Clair cut 50/50 with soda. It tastes enough like a wine to keep me happy and I can drink 5 or 6 glasses without a problem.

Mind you when I'm out I tend to drink whatever house wine is on offer. If I'm out of Pattaya I take some bottles of decent wine with me. Most places don't charge corkage if they don't sell wine

Going back even further I used to buy house wine in France to bring back at 50 pence a litre. Served ice cold it was drinkable but it had to be iced cold otherwise it was cr-p.

Yes, I do, but what you're not understanding is that despite that fact, and Thailand advertising world wide, the tourist industry took 3 years to get back to normal. Even though clean up began immediately, the tourists did not return in full numbers immediately.

You could equally argue that Thailand immediately shut down borders. That does not mean recovery began then, does it?

You have to look at the full picture, and after the Tsunami tourism took 3 years to recover.

With Covid there is nothing to actually rebuild, nothing was destroyed physically, excepting business that have to be rebuilt, or reopened. Though many in fact took  the Covid break to refurbish. So I suspect the influx of tourists can happen much quicker, and won't drag out over 3 years, like after the tsunami.

We have evidence of previous pandemics. The four waves of the Spanish flu pandemic took 2 years. So giving it 3 years for Covid, when we have vaccinations they did not have in 1918, is actually very conservative.

Obviously we can't know it for sure, there may be a new SARS variant and we may all die within months, but all things being equal and if the past can be used as an indicator, by the end of 2022 the end of the Covid pandemic (not the end of Covid, but the pandemic) and all the associated knee-jerk lock down measures, can come to pass.

I agree with the 3 year recovery. But it will be 3 years from the end of the pandemic.
