  1. When filling out any kind of reply to a forum subject, I have to keep clicking the mouse in the reply section, something like every 10 seconds or so. As I'm not the worlds best typist, I look up ( like just now) and the cursor has dissappeared from the reply section, and all the reply I've typed since last look has gone into cyber space. So then have to start again. A real pain in the ass.(mmmm...and again) Noticed that it happens as adds flash .............and if I'm lucky I see it out the corner of my eye.
  2. Wouldn't be the first time.....wife's aunty was issued an enormous bill 2 years ago. Turned out meter was installed across the road on a pole ( fairly standard ) but up approx 5 metres off the ground. Meter reader had been taking a guess for years. Anyhow, as someone already mentioned, she went and saw the PEA, sorted. I imagine the "averaging practice" is still in place, the meter certainly hasn't shifted.
  3. ........... remember that when you are looking out at the world from behind steel bars. Also might pay to remember or to be informed that Thai prisons are not like western countries "hotels". Remember the Bali incidents, one with 20 years behind bars, the others were taken to an island and shot.
  4. These cost upwards of $8,000, take over 2 years to process and she must be out of Aus when she applies.(prospective marriage visa in Aus does not apply ...they are already married) Would take the six months to pay for the thing.(if approved) If approved, has to be ready to move, I think 6 weeks from time of notice to having to arrive in Aus, otherwise all the process is cancelled. Advantage long term (again if approved) she can work, travel in and out of Aus as much as she likes, (be careful with that...too much and they suspect criminal activity) can acess medicare and hospital system. It's a two part system, first lasts 2 years, then reapply for permanent , wait again. If ok, can apply for citizenship. A lot of work and if you are unfamiliar with government forms and bulldust, then forget it. Agent..??? forget that too...too many that;ll take you 2-3000 bucks and do a runner. As already mentioned, she cannot get any other kind of working visa as I think that cuts out at 29 years old.
  5. One of those things when one has more money than sense. ????
  6. Just the way it currently is, rediculous prices. A quick check at Aus store Coles (for example) mince is over 400baht a kg............. Couldn't see any blackangus steak....probably all exported......however, most steak is anywhere from $40 to $50 kg ( 900 to 1200 kg) Then it has to be packed, transported, pay the import duty etc. etc.
  7. Reason why in countries like Aus, public are not allowed within certain areas, flight insurance is a must, flying only allowed within certain boundaries of CASA approved flying fields, flyers must be approved. But, as they say, TIT. So the compensation arrangement is more than likely up to the village head. Just hope the flyers don't infringe on airspace used by light aircraft or others.
  8. Don't be surprised to find the delay is at the Aussie end. China parcels track as arriving in Aus 2 to 3 days after dispatch but then take up to 4 weeks within Aus. Recently sent a parcel to West Aus from Qld, over 1 week as "normal post". Once queried the time from Qld to NZ, was told "you sent "normal mail" instead of express. Now as far as I am aware, it all goes by airmail, so I asked if they were still using Tiger Moth aircraft. Just received a perplexed look ( no sense of humour)
  9. Perhaps fit an older style check meter yourself. Then show PEA Best part of the old spinning disc is they do not lie........????
  10. Not as far as I am aware , Crossy. I did look for any reference on the SAI site however it appears they do a copy as well as sections of the rules normally outside the scope of the standards which SAA do anyhow. https://infostore.saiglobal.com/en-au/standards/wiring-rules-bundle-2022-1306048_saig_as_as_3181015/ Again at a price, equally as mind bending I'd imagine. All documentation from SAA is the same complexity. When doing the hospital refits/extensions we had to have a folder overflowing with standards to cover many extra sections. Can't imagine any "watered down" AS3000 as any argument or reference one has, has to refer to the AS3000 directly. Always something new to add as well.......many times received the "latest" with an extra folder full of amendments to glue in to the newly acquired book. Still, have to keep up as our licence renewal every 5 years is a "zero mistakes" application.....no 75% pass here.
  11. If he is touching any conductive material with any part of his body he is toast. Doesn't have to go through his feet.
  12. SAA wiring rules (current version). Will set you back in excess of $400 AUD. You'll also need some direction from a lecky as it can get rather mind altering just trying to understand. Sadly, due to the current trend of replacing diagrams with words, it can be open to interpretation in places.
  13. Not so either. We were married in Thailand, did all the necessary paperwork in Thailand (via online forms we downloaded). Then applied and lodged all necessary documents through Australian Visa application mob ( they take all docs on behalf of the Aussie embassy) Had to do a visit to Aus Embassy once to lodge my copies of previous divorce papers etc. All a pices o' p**ss for me as I am fairly good at Aus gov forms and fulfilling their requirements........ not so for many others though I have to say....... Thing is, I knew my future wife a couple of years prior so it was fairly straight forward. Other way is to take her to Aus once or twice on a tourist visa over a couple of years or so, and that takes care of your "familiarity" part as well as "your family and friends in Aus knowing her". Already quoted the best overall...forget marriage.....just live in Thailand. You'll get your full pension paid every fortnight to a bank of your choice if you are already e;ligible for the age pension. That way no "reporting" of her details whatsoever. Cost an arm and a leg these days otherwise. We did it 10 years ago when it was $2k......still going strong ....manage to get back "home to Thailand " every 2 years or so......... ????
  14. How did you arrive at this conclusion...???? Any partner visa to Aus will cost bucks (probably $8 to $10k these days plus maybe $2 to $3k for any agent you want to use. It usually increases every July as well. Then there are the costs associated with all the relevant translations of required documents, health checks, police checks, passport etc. You have to show some form of relationship over a period of a couple of years or more and sworn documents from people in Aus who have known her for around the same amount of time. It's not difficult to do oneself, but you must be methodical and cover EVERY aspect and instruction to the letter. One mistake and you are out along with you application money. Be prepared to spend $15 to $20K all up. And lastly, be prepared to wait for at least 2 years with no word from the Aus Embassy in between. If you are currently living in Thailand with access to full age pension, stay where you are, forget the marriage. Full single payment can be paid where you are.
  15. Most wheels are available as kits on Ebay etc. Done mine a couple of times in the last few years. Latest was last November.
  16. Gov here is hell bent on converting over to green energy bulldust, closing conventional generating plants when the replacement required is not in place. Same for the way they want petrol/diesel vehicles out and gas banned. Watched as Albo sprooked to the Germans how Aus will become a "world energy power". Those of us connected to the "real world" are simply gobsmacked. So it may or may not affect Thai for the moment, but guessing it will come soon.
  17. Lesson here is, never leave a construction site unattended. Ask anyone who has even been there for more than a few days, it's well known.
  18. If Thailand anything currently like Aus, expect the cost of energy to soar. Recent increase here sees domestic price of the Kwh go up 25%. Commercial even more so at around 48% in one wack from 25c to 37c a unit. Don't know how that makes any sense given it all comes out of the same cable........... ???? Bit like the local councils who charge 4 times extra for water (coming from the same street main) to a 50mm pipe for fire fighting purpose. Or a charge for the number of dunnies one has, price per unit. Really, one can only dump so much in any given day surely. ???? Solar farms in Aus are a joke. Gov used foreign contractors to supply/fit the system. Underground wiring is blowing up after a week or so in the ground (crap insulation). Contractor avoiding the issues and will probably declare themselves broke after an independant quote to repair the issue by reputable mob came in at gazillions. They didn't REALLY want to have anything to do with someone else's f**up anyhow I guess. I don't think Albo knows about all of this though. ..........We get it from the guys on the ground there. Guess you have your own/other problems with the so-called election. I could never see how that actually works.
  19. Once one has had/used a laser printer, there simply is no going back to the pain-in-the-butt injets and their troublesome/expensive ink.
  20. No, multimeter will tell you nothing. There is a small scope available for less than $40. They work well, have used one here since the flood took out my other bench unit. So well in fact I've never got around to replacing the former at all. DSO150............ https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/385688686532 Mine gets used quite a lot so the only modification I did was to add a LiPo battery and usb charger. There are online youtube videos on "how to use" and suggest a quick look at a couple of those as well. Cheers.
  21. Mains large enough? Meter appropriate size? Long run from PEA transformer to your 8Kw electric muncher? Time to start thinking oil burner.
  22. One often hears and reads about this "enter on 30 day visa exempt and then get an extention". May be all well and good as far as visas go but what about the cost and availability of the airline tickets to and fro. Some airlines may even refuse to allow you to travel without a return ticket. I've looked at the above before and found it's not worth the effort. When I travel, I like to have all the possible "hangups" taken care of beforehand so I can simply "go for a holiday" and not have to worry about minor details or saving a couple of bucks that could infringe on your time away. Fine if you want to enter visa exempt but have the appropriate visa before you leave. I usually arrange for it to be done well in advance of start of travel ( a couple of months). Be sure you have the correct amount of time remaining on your passport also as that may throw a spanner in the works. I think it might be at least 6 months remaining at time of departure. Others will certainly say "ah, you worry about nothing" but one never hears the full story.
  23. Here's an eye opener for you, probably been told before but choose to ignore it. Thai basically do not want you to know what they are talking about, pure and simple. Yes, I know different ones will tell you how Thai are impressed with how well you know the language, but it's all bulldust. You stumble along poking a word in here and there, usually wrong alltogether. The sooner you realise it, the better off you will be.
