Korn Slams Move To Reduce Power Bills – Cut Is Only 2 Satang
jcmj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They need to do more. This is by far the hottest year in awhile and people need to use more electric to cool off. After April’s bill now they will try to cut down and end up with more problems. My bill increased by more than 7,000 baht and I know many Thai friends have had their bills run up by at least 1,000 baht which is hard for them to pay so now they are trying to use less but the heat is getting them sick. This is the hottest time of the year and the government needs to step in to help more so people don’t suffer. -
Sad. They are peaceful creatures just roaming the sea for food and get caught and killed by a fishing net. If that is what they think happened. ????

Government says household electricity charges will be eased
jcmj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well great. Just wish they would have thought about this before the summer heat started and April’s bill increases. Wasn’t until people started to complain about the cost. I guess they made enough this month to subsidize it for a few more months. ???????? -
No savings, huge debts: More and more Thai seniors struggling to survive
jcmj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And so many men wonder why their partners need to send money back home for their parents. Plus many grandparents are raising their grandchildren. Imagine trying to make it on 600 baht a month and hoping that you will make it to 90 to get 900 baht a month. It’s really a sad situation. They need to get some casinos in a tax them to support the elderly as well as the sex workers. Their tax should go to their families who are raising their children. Maybe someday. -
I still think Friendship offers some of the best priced beef cuts at reasonable prices and they always seem fresh. Their Thai hybrid beef tenderloin is only about 450 baht a kilo and with some marinating is pretty darn good. Just make sure you always have some kind of acid in your marinade to make the beef tender. Balsamic vinegar, lime, coke etc or even a bit of baking soda will do. Then it’s all about the cooking.

I don’t have nor want an electric car but would love to have solar panels and subsidize some of my electric consumption, however, all the quotes are extremely high and don’t seem economical. I wish they had government subsidies for solar panels installed to offset the cost and make it more viable. My house is large so I know it wouldn’t cut out the electric bills but it certainly would help. Last month’s bill was over 22,000. Hopefully they will come up with some help soon like they have in other countries. If anyone knows of a decent priced place in Pattaya I’d still consider looking into it again.

Transport Ministry says swift tourism recovery has led to higher airfares
jcmj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The pent up demand to travel will likely end soon. With the economy slowing, the inflation and flight prices going up, people will start finding alternative travel options that won’t cost as much. Hopefully then the prices will come down but I’m not holding my breath. -
Best to fly to Singapore and take a cruise from there. They have quite a few options and the prices for a 2 night start around $250-300 from what I have seen on google search. Nothing from Thailand right now. Star cruise line was here, but stopped several years ago. Good luck on your search.

The ignorance is astounding. Just bring these workers to immigration and give them a pass. At least they are working and trying to make a meager living. The locals don’t want to work anymore so they need to let the people willing to do it stay. The owners should be held responsible, but we all know that is not going to happen. Just make it easier and get on with it. They are focusing on the wrong people.

IMO you are not going to get one that will last for that price. I’d suggest paying a bit more and getting something that will be comfortable and last awhile. If you’re tight on money check Facebook marketplace.

Tobacco companies are the ones probably fighting this tooth and nail. They don’t have a monopoly on vapes so it’ll hurt their profits.

Go with Aetna as said above. Have had them for 20 years through all the buyouts they still have the same service and payout pretty quickly. Get the Thai policy not international. Much more expensive. They have an office on the left side just after the Pattaya Nua and Sukhumvit road intersection about 200 meters down towards the hospital on the left.

Friendship usually has them as well.

Don’t worry it’ll be going down a few spots by the next review I’m sure. I don’t put much stock in these reports but if they don’t go down then we All know it’s a farce.

Thailand Forecasts 30 Million Foreign Tourists in 2023
jcmj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
God help them if they come even close to the numbers. The streets are torn apart, the hotels can’t service the visitors, the traffic is hell with what we have now. It’ll be a complete nightmare and with all the bad press about the police corruption the word will get out quickly and people won’t come. Let them have their dreams and the consequences. -

Hotels struggle to attract quality staff as tourism recovers
jcmj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It all comes down from the top. No one to blame but themselves. If they don’t pay the management a decent salary and have them make sure they pay appropriately and are trained properly then they will never be staffed properly and they will be the only ones losing money.
