  1. why on earth require they live there?

    1) don't most of the hosting companies provide free websites and assistance and

    2) what sort of fool has 30,000 Baht in hand one day, and then cant eat or pay rent the next day?

some folks called this a scam in the brewing,

it sounds more like a person on the computer all day,

and not enough man in him to carry himself through the world,

no one would lend money to a person without the ability to pay back,

A male film maker had the balls recently, to call my g/f to borrow 10,000 baht,

repeat: a man called a woman to borrow money.

she had the money, but said it didn't "feel" right, so declined.

the next day one of her best friends called her to say, the same man came to his store to borrow 20,000 baht.

    he also declined,

they both later surmised he lost a football bet.

either way, they havent heard from him since,

the OP, is not believable, was already caught in an easy lie about having family, not having family, and yet, the thread persists

I am unsure why I even read as much as I did, until I read his post prior to this one, which sounded like hit had just hit the crack pipe,

yeah, things are looking up all right,

gives his last 30,000 baht to a school, to keep a visa...........but its 1,900 baht to extend a visa......math sounds right for the OP

  2. Well, I am NOT happy to be searched by customs, as I believe I have not done anything illegal and I still should be protected by the constitution. But then again I am being old fashion and I keep forgetting that the terrorists have won the war.

Al Queda is a name given to the Muslim Brotherhood, so they can continue their quest for world domination, without unecessarily being tied to the US CIA, who created the Afghan branch to fight the Soviets.

A little history is required before the word "terrorist" is flung about

    It's "whose" terrorist

  3. That's idiotic, if you make kids you will want to take responsibility, no matter what you think now.

If you want to be a sperm donor, do it properly so you can't find out anything about where your spawn end up.

She should also be more selective in her choice of donor, white skin by itself is selling her kids short.

She didn't tell me that, I extrapolated as I know their fascination with white skin and what they perceive it to mean in soceity.

They aren't completely wrong in that.

    Regarding a child,

I have watched my sister struggle with a daughter she had with a man 20 years her senior.

My brother in law didnt want a child, and, it was clear from birth, who was going to shoulder all the responsibility, and then finally divorced anyway, when she fell in love with a man her age, (what a surprise)

I have not fully weighed all the issues, and I am not giving up my US citizenship, nor does she want to come to America, so,

it's a decision she is being faced with as she gets older, (33 in Aug), and it's only a question of who she has it with,

she wants a marriage and a normal family life, but is also resigning to the reality, that it may not happen for her,

frankly, she is too head strong for most men, as are most of the single mothers I know.

They have all been horrible wives, but excellent mothers, so, who is to say?

  4. http://www.redflagnews.com/headlines/homeland-security-used-intercepted-emails-to-quiz-woman-about-her-sex-life

(Paul Joseph Watson) -- A senior lecturer at Indiana University was confronted by Department of Homeland Security officials after the federal agency obtained copies of her emails and began quizzing her about the details of her sex life.

The ACLU is filing a lawsuit on behalf of Christine Von Der Haar after she was detained by Customs and Border Patrol at at Indianapolis International Airport during an incident in 2012.

The sociology professor traveled to the airport merely to help her friend pick up some computer parts that had been shipped separately. Greek national Dimitris Papatheodoropoulos had already arrived in the country under a valid business visa which allowed him to enter and leave the United States for a period of 10 years.

Both Von Der Haar and Papatheodoropoulos were detained by DHS officers and bombarded with questions about their private lives, including whether they had shared sexual relations, with feds alleging that the two secretly conspired so that Papatheodoropoulos could stay in the country illegally.

“Given that Mr. Papatheodoropoulos had retained his hard drive that contained the emails, the only way that the Customs and Border Protection Agents could have reviewed the emails is for someone to have surreptitiously monitored the communications between Dr. Von Der Haar and Mr. Papatheodoropoulos and reported those communications to the agents questioning her,” states the lawsuit. “Defendant Lieba admitted that employees of the United States had read email communications between Dr. Von Der Haar and Mr. Papatheodoropoulos.”

Customs and Border Protection seized Papatheodoropoulos’ passport and commenced proceedings to remove him from the country, claiming he had misrepresented his intentions. After Papatheodoropoulos consulted with lawyers and the Greek Consulate in Chicago, the proceedings were halted and his passport was returned. Papatheodoropoulos left the country of his own volition in August 2012.

“CBP officers grossly exceeded their jurisdiction. Dr. Von Der Haar’s US citizenship was never questioned; she wasn’t trying to enter, leave, or ship and goods in or out of the country; and she was never accused of any crime. In general, immigration (as distinct from customs) offenses are handled by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol, not CBP. We’re curious what basis CBP will claim for its officers’ authority to detain and interrogate Dr. Von Der Haar or obtain her email,” asks Papers Please.

Either the DHS is obtaining Americans’ emails via their own undeclared (and illegal) snoop program, or they are being aided by the National Security Agency or some other government entity.

This case is not the only example of the DHS harassing travelers over personal information that the feds have no business or legal justification to know. Read more via Infowars...

  5. Dont tell me tourists dont keep the average thai eating because, this is purely false

You're only seeing what's around YOU.

The average Thai doesn't see more than a half-dozen foreigners their entire life.

I find that quite unbelievable, so where does the average Thai live?.

I've travelled and visited most areas of Thailand, and yes sometimes on these travels I do not see another farang for a couple of days, but that's it, just a couple of days, surely there most be many other Farangs traveling around.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

The "average" thai sees foreigners ever single day,

it is we farangs, that can go days without seeing another anglo, or indo european

sometimes when I hear English, I am thrilled,

I sometimes turn around and it is a Chinese person speaking perfect English,

I have yet to meet a Thai who can do that

  6. I can buy an interest in all of the land that I want in Thailand. If you think land in Thailand is undervalued buy a Thai Real Estate Investment Trust. Someone can educate me otherwise but I think all Farang can buy a REIT on the SET.

    http://www.set.or.th/en/products/listing/criteria_p7.html

Buying paper, with paper, is not a hard asset,

it is a piece of paper, with espenses and not the upside of owning real land,

my g/f bought a piece of property, very small she said, no idea what that means however, for 30,000 baht

and has turned away multiple offers at 1,000,000 baht,

you cannot tell me that the Thais wont directly benefit from opening up the rules for non thai's

that said thai is for thai

  7. Get your tubes tied ASAP son - free including followup checks - at Suk Soi 12, clinic upstairs behind Condoms & Cabbages.

So, you are not in favor.

No worries, it isn't my plan

I havent made it into the friends circle

I don't know what any of the above means or how it might relate to my advice.

You stated you don't intend to breed. I'm telling you how (the only way) to ensure that.

    Anything else is irresponsible.

It still goes back to what the girl may want; escpecially if she can afford to raise a child on her own, in a good way.

I know plenty of women all over the world, who do not want husbands, but want kids, and have them.

Generally, they are in over their heads whether living in a $15,000,000 flat in Nueilly France, or near the golf courses and private, international schools of outlying Bangkok.

I am not talking about a girl in a one room rented condo with no a/c

  8. Foreigners that want to own/control land in Thailand ......already do by the various means available.

And the very clever Thais (and sometimes farang scamming farang) have convinced them their "investment" is "safe".

Far from it, anytime they feel like it the government can "crack down" and just take the property back for having been obtained illegally, e.g. nominee directors.

I give up. At the moment Thailand is a basket case. Its kept alive by tourism. Yes we all love Thailand but let's get real. This is a time bomb . The infrastructure here I.e rail and light transport is a joke. Google this . kilometers of light rail in bkk and same for say Melbourne. Its like 10 tomes in favour of Melbourne with population one quarter Thai. Point is you selfish expats need to think about long term Thai and not your own life expectancy

Tourism's share of the Thai economy has been steadily declining. Yes 10% or so is significant, but hardly critical.

Sure it's less developed, but development for it's own sake is not a good thing in itself.

Empty land is wonderful, rampant construction a blight wherever it shows up.

Thailand is DEFINITELY wise to prevent foreign ownership of its land.

Now business startups and actually encouraging skilled immigration, those are other topics and I agree should be opened up a lot more.

But not land ownership or RE development business.

Official tourism numbers are not counting:

All the cash being handled by kiosks and non permanent shopping booths that line the streets wherever tourists are, and of those tourists weren't freely throwing 100's and 1,000's of Baht at these many booth operators, many whom are dealing in stolen, pirated, and second's. off cuts, and pre owned goods being sold as new to the unsuspecting, and you would see starvation and crime sky rocket.

Dont tell me tourists dont keep the average thai eating because, this is purely false

  9. There would be a terrible lad grab, and as suggested above, a hike in prices to exclude the majority of Thais. It would deepen resentment already there for the foreigners nudging their way into business. Foreigners would not respect the character of the Thai landscape. The ugliest parts of Thailand are where foreign developers have replicated Western suburbia. Ugly ugly ugly.

    You may be right, but,

I live by Fashion Island, and the Promenade, and it has the feel of every modern mall in america,

the shoppers inside are higher income, and dress the part, there are no minimum wage workers shopping there,

as such, it doesnt have the garbage being pushed in kiosks all over bkk, ,

it also has a high end organic market and plays, (as they all do, american music

if thats what you mean by alienating the Thai's, I say bring it on, because were it not for these western encroachments, we'd all be eating noodles and trying to step aside the hustlers and con artists that line every major road here

  10. Since when has ownership facilitated education ?

The education and training for methods or techniques of construction dont require ownership.

Yes you are correct. I was meaning that ownership would need to also allow some sort of work permit capacity. For example perhaps supervisor capacity without actual sub contractor work. Yes may be far fetched but it brings in money from overseas, provides jobs,. Also if the foreign individual has skills and is allowed to work in some way brings training.

we are talking about people who work barefoot on construction sites, but still wear their hard hats and draw buckets of sand up 4 floors with a rope

  11. Please do not try to convince other's that intrinsic market forces are the sole denominator in the value of any country's currency.

I have been in Forex since the Plaza Accord,

there is more than trade balances involved in the inherent fluctuation on any given day.

When the PPT decides to target a currency, or someone (US Gov) backs Soro's life its no longer about "value"

And fiat currency, not backed by anything, except a pretty picture of an aged monarch, is inherently, value less

    but thanks for the lesson

Why would the plunge protection team target the baht? Why not the ringgit, the rupiah, the rupee?? Isn't their remit the protection of the US equity markets and ensuring the continuation of the greenback as the world's reserve currency?

The fiat currency, fractional reserve banking house of cards has a lot longer to run than the goldbug evangelists would have you believe.

They have been focused on Iran and India, and are now suicidily targeting Russia.

The Baht is in a range, and has been, so anyone citing recent fluctuations as proof of anything, prove nothing.

The rich can only build so many condo's and hotels, and there are only so many buyers.

I see one BMW and one Mercedes for every 30 Honda's, most on 5 and 7 year loans.

Bangkok is already over built, and the gap between the have's a have not's growing fast.

If Thailand was on anyone's radar, other than those escaping the pollution of China, it would have a chance, but it doesn't.

Just look at how many world leaders have come here to help them end their politcal impasse; answer, none, because no one cares about Thailand, just the Thai's

Now, where can I get a Thai stick?

Because other than the easy girls, which I tired of in weeks,

'there isn't much to keep me here, even though, I have a great girl, I may have found the only girl from the north, who doesnt want to leave thailand

Anecdotal evidence from a musician staying few weeks in Thailand is hardly an economic trend indicator. You ignored my other question about naming a country going downhill when the currency is stable or trending upwards.

I don't know why you have joined the Thai econ bashers from the news forum but what does the Thai economy have to do with you? You play music in a bar right? If you are a Forex whiz kid you know the direction of currency moves. You would be fine living in the South of France. Why stay here?

While it may be true that I have on occasion hopped on a stage to join a band and play a few songs, it isn't what I ordinarily do, no.

But I have produced others more dedicated than myself,

Forex moves aside, you want proof of the future, and I cannot offer it.

The westerm world of which Thailand depends and in particular, China, is not in recovery, and the FED has the world begging for more stimulus. In fact, China is defaulting, or Chinese companies are defaulting all over themselves as reality strikes balance sheets

This pullback from China, and no confidence from the west, won't benefit Thailand and the Thai finances are more of a sham than the US.

True, I have only been here 6 months, and, had it not been for the people here, whom are more advanced spiritually than Americans, I would have already left as, there is no legitimate opportunity here for small business startups that aren't engaged and connected to the corruption,

this I feel is a legit response to the OP as to why people leave, why people left, and in my case, why I am leaving.

work for a multinational on a guaranteed salary, fine, but that's not my bag, and just using the term fiat for currency doesn't automatically a gold bug make; but in this case,

    you would be right.

I expect gold and the US Dollar to strengthen over time, and barring war w the US becoming a new oil exporter and the reliance on the Saudi's, for anything, and with backlash against China growing, I expect to see the US trade deficit, and thus current accounts, go to a surplus,

that means death to many emerging markets,

    and all of SE Asia

  14. Long may Thailand continue to deny greedy tossers the right to own a slice of the Kingdom. Given the chance, wouldn't they just drive up land values and squeeze out the locals?

yes ,they would ,all the beachfront property would be foreign owned

imagine how much buying power people from other nations have vs thai wages and you can see why the restrictions are in place

    wrt to foreigners owning land

what would be wrong woth foreign ownership of beachfront property?

wouldnt that create jobs, and, god forbid, increase prosperity for business owners as travelers have more and better, and cleaner choices?

I would be fine with foreign land ownership allowed

its the thais that cant afford to compete that you have to convince its a good idea

    the thai's that can't compete now,are the thai's that can't compete, period,

they have no future here once foreign direct investment stops,

    and it will

    this place is toast

  16. Next to the 2 year millionaires, that have to leave eventually, there is an other kind of Farang that will turn their back on the land of smiles. Realizing that:

    - I will never be part of Thai-Society (with or without language skills).

    - My Thai-Wifes loyalties will remain with "the Family", in the end,I will come in second.

    - My ATM Card is basically my only life-support system (what else would there be?)

    - Whatever property I buy will never be mine ( big crackdown on dodgy RE deals ongoing and increasing in the near future.)

    - My kids (if applicable), will be educated in an learning-environment that resembles the times when queen Victoria was in power.

    - The political situation is reduced to a burlesque - show, with more entertainment-value than any TV- soap-opera.

    - Once 70 years old, what health coverage will I be getting here, and at what price?

And above all: As an European/US/Aussie-Guy, do you really want to live in a place where dishonesty, fake and meaningless smiles, face-saving-rituals are the rule of daily live and override anything else?

How many Farangs, having worked in Thailand for 10 years, can claim they have gained one single Thai-Males true friendship during this time? (money excluded).

The list is by far not complete. It's just to indicate, that there are a few other good reasons to take the exit, short of running out of money.

    Cheers.

I agree with all your points, especially, the loyalty issues,

however, I am a musician, and I have made many decent new friendships with my fellow musicians here, because we speak a common language,

    that said,

none of them really speak english, and that is about as far as those friendships will carry, the ability to play and enjoy the creative process,

    that said,

my thai girlfriend wants to be pregnant before I leave her, as, she wants a white baby,

that, is how insane this place is,

she knows I am leaving, and wants a white child; no marriage, no sin sot, no family ritual, just a white baby,

if that is the only chance she sees of having any future, I have lost my senses as, I will give herwhat she wants, if that's what she truly wants, but staying with her, no.

    .

    @ Scarpolo,

"if that is the only chance she sees of having any future, I have lost my senses as, I will give herwhat she wants, if that's what she truly wants, but staying with her, no."

    "

I feel sorry for your future child if you proceed with your plan as per your post.

my current kids are 26 and 23,

to quote George Harrison, I want to be "free from birth"

having another child, is not in the cards for me,

if the girl wants a child, she will get it, from someone,

and raise it on her own,

I have seen countless girls do this in the US, who don't want to deal with a husband, and or a bad father, versus an absent one,

she grew up without a father,

if she thinks that's wise to repeat,

and doesnt take counsel to the contrary, what is the right thing, and who gets to decide?

    http://topics.bloomberg.com/thailand/

Some post rumors some post facts. The above is news today.

Anyone in finance knows it takes 6 to 18 months for the real effects of economic "changes" to fully hit the economy,

the "taper" began a few months ago,

capital flight out of emerging markets has begun,

3 million cares produced, "big fuc_king deal" most of them are tiny cars, and many for export, particularly Ford.

Thai's are broke and living on credit and the income from foreigners,

Americans have near zero interest in Thailand, unless they are criminals or working in boiler rooms.

I am talking about the financial rape of what was the rising middle class, from high interest credit, and mortgages they do not fully understand,

anyone disputing this, will have to wait 6-12 months, but I already see it, in the heavily discounted merchandise in the malls and that is of actual needed merchandise,

there is so much crap being sold on the streets here, when the capital flight is no longer "hidable" by the lying finance ministry,

    see how far Thailand grows

    the place is a shithole,

and it is going to get ugly, soon

Nonsense as usual. Start with you wrote, "3 million cares produced, "big fuc_king deal" most of them are tiny cars, and many for export, particularly Ford."

    Wrong

One- ton pickup trucks are the local industry’s largest single product category, making up 61% of total automotive output in Thailand,

    http://www.boi.go.th/tir/issue/201204_22_4/42.htm

    bought with 7 year loans,

please, you offer nothing of value to indications of economic activity, other than car sales?

when the Chinese money stops flowing to Thailand, the trucks will sit idle as the workers will have no jobs,

the amount of empty buildings I see here, and unfinished construction, is apparent everywhere,

UNLESS, you are opening a cosmetics store for skin whitening, or teeth straightening,

girls will sell their little sisters here for white skin and straight teeth,

face it, even the papaya is being rejected, and their rice scheme? joke

who called her boyfriend to ask him why he wasnt home yet.

he said he was out with his guy friends at a restaurant, but was instead in a slut bar with a girl on his lap,

She texted him a picture of himself kissing the girl on his lap, within minutes of it occuring,

No girl will ever give up her iPhone,
