  1. Hi i have a 7 month + policy with Columbus direct, as stated they have a three month uk residency period, i am 56 and declared high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, the premium was £289 but I used quidco and received £50.00 cash back which made the insurance £1.00 per day'ish. I have had reason to claim for a hospital stay, and found them to be very helpful, they settled the hospital bill 73,000baht on my discharge, with only a few days notice. they did require a copy of my itinerary, i send a copy of my emirates booking which included a return ticket.

  2. Hull took 3 weeks to return mine before was 2 days, they said they where very busy and returned them just before they where needed instead of next day, I thought this a bit weird tbh but I did get it

must be something new, i have in the past received by return post, but i normally go in person as i only live an hours drive, and try to fit it in with some other business in the area.

  3. I have read through the thread, and i think I have got to grips with what is happening, my wife was refused her first settlement visa, and it was upsetting, i thought about the appeal route, but decided it was not likely to succeed, and was very long winded. On the second application for which she had an interview she was successful.

My thoughts on the subject and please forgive me if they have already been raised and discarded, but the thread is quite long, with some equally long posts.

1/Can you apply for any other form of EU passport?,

2/Could you not have your son live with you in the UK, work the bare minimum of hours allowed, and claim working tax credit, that along with your wages, child benefit, and any other benefits that you are perfectly entitled to claim , would amount to a fair income. could a job offer for your wife be obtained, and then after a few months extra added to the months since your last application, would that be enough proof of income to allow a successful application.

I only make the suggestions as they appear to have not been offered before, I am not saying that they are going to work, or are in fact possible, I also do not want to start a debate on them that takes the thread off topic.

All the best for you and your family.

  4. Assuming she does not hold another nationality passport. and the old Thai passport,in her maiden name, on which she left UK, has her permission to stay in the uk? (she will need that to allow boarding onto the flight back to the UK, also for entry to the UK,) if she has marriage certificate with English translation, old passport, and new passport there should not be a problem.

  5. I just looked on the forum sponsers website and call for price is shown against all hard drives, i checked for uk prices and the cheapest 2tb internal i could see was £70.00, they were £50.00 a few weeks ago, most component stores are showing at £100.00 plus

  6. i bought for a friend a 2tb external yesterday in tuk com pattaya, 3590baht, 3tb were 5000baht something, in the same shop the 2tb internals were 7000baht, there were a few shops at 3500baht for 2tb external, hardware house wanted 8000baht for a W/D my book 2tb external. not many shops had 3.5inch internal h/d on display. one repair shop was asking 2000baht for a 250gb and 3000baht for a 500gb second hand 3.5inch internal.across the isle they wanted 3500baht for a 2tb external. that could be called taking the p**s.

  7. I can confirm there is a cliff only about 30 meter's high as for condos most are old and need of refurbishment I see they seem cheap.

John, I remember taking the road that boarders Utapao from Eastern Star GC down to Pala beach and I seem to remember winding up right on the beach with no noticeable elevation change, perhaps the cliff you speak of is a few miles to the east of Pala beach closer to the industrial district? As for the condos that I have found about 60% seem to be already refurbished(and some quite reasonably priced) while the other 40% are in dire need of refurbishment. I guess the most important question is in what shape are the individual buildings and are they professionally managed (yes I know this is Thailand), because even if someone gets a good deal on a refurbished condo, if the complex is in the dumps then it really isn't a good deal.

    link here - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=phala+beach+thailand&hl=en&ll=12.666676,101.050143&spn=0.017041,0.030556&hq=phala+beach+thailand&t=h&z=15&vpsrc=6

this shows phala beach on the extream left, which is the beach you refered to as you drive along to the beach with the airport on your right, all the condo's are further along to the east, but as posted they are on a cliff, there is a new complex being built next door to the older ones, there is also a condo block across the road from the cliff edge condos, this block was completly empty a few years back, but some repairs/renevations have been carried out, there are some 3/4 story houses a little futher along, a lot of these have also been renovated, they have a lot of half levels, with some rooms at the front and others at the back with a sea view, if not for the trees.

  8. use moxtravel.com, can book on line and then pay at a bank of your choice. they send a bar coded invoice to you by e-mail, pay with this and within a short time the ticket is send by e-mail, i used them earlier this year and an excellent service and prices.

  9. Not sure where you are from but the UK an International licence is only a tenner at any Post Office and takes 5 minutes.....surely better to do than than worry everytime you are out and in Phuket you will get stopped on a daily basis.

not available at any post office, but a select few £5.50 see here - http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder, but you are about correct with the price available by post also from AA. RAC and Green flag

  10. UK photocard driving licences are valid for 10 years, they have been in use for around 10 years now, so a lot will be expiring soon, dvla will write to the address on the licence informing you of the expiry. Regarding old paper licence valid until 70 years old, pink or green, they are still valid, and will only be changed, on change of address etc. to the new photo licence.

If you obtain a speeding fine whilst using Thai licence, a court appearence will be required, and points will be placed on your driving record at Swansea, if you have no driving record a record will be created.

A Thai licence is valid in the Uk, for one year. but if you hold a Thai and UK licence you should use the UK licence.
