  1. ATMs were here long before the end of the 90's.i can't remember when the cash deposit machines came about though. And I never heard of any rules by any bank that counter services are only for big accounts. Many times in the past (after 1996) when I saw that the queue for the ATM was longer than the one inside the back I just went into the bank to get my transaction done.
  2. Up until about 2 years ago vaccines were given in order to do infection\transmission. When the COVID vaccines came out they were supposed to do the same (hence the calling to get vaccinated not only to protect yourself but those around you as well and the idea of hers immunity through vaccination). Only when it was evident that there are so many breakthrough infections (vaxed people who still get infected, which was always very rare with all those other vaccines around) the song was changed and now they all claim vaccines are not given to stop one from getting infected, but to reduce the severity of the sickness. There was another thread on AN the other day and someone posted a clip showing all those who pushed for the vaccines saying that it will stop infections - they should all day their hats...
  3. Unless you keep all your money in a safe at home or under the mattress, money in the bank can be frozen ("switched off") just as easily as while it's in the bank it is just digits on a computer just the same. I agree with the privacy issue though. To the op - 1. It makes no difference if you're for it or against it. It's something that is happening all over the world. Many countries around the world already put limits on the amount of cash allowed to be paid for purchasing items, and every few years the amount allowed is reduced. 2. Most small shops and stalls accept transfers but no credit\debit cards due to costs of transactions. But for those who are accepting cards there is a possibility to do it on their mobile phone.
  4. So one must have a master degree in order to buy? Back to school, I guess...
  5. Have you ever been to a local market in Thailand? Or any street in every city and town? None of the vendors is registered in the vat \tax system. So it's going to be practically impossible to collect from small businesses. Some years ago while I was running a business in BKK the vat officials came to check my books. Opposite my business was a row of stalls selling just about everything. I asked the vat people why check my business and not all of those out there? They answered that since mine was an official and registered business it is easy for them to check and collect, unlike all the small vendors... As for tax collected on weed paying for alcohol abuse - why? They collect do much tax on alcohol and cigarettes for "taking care" of users, so why should a cannabis use which creates none of those problems should pay to take care of them?
  6. I'd ask the airlines directly about possibility\limitation of carrying ebike. That way you get an actual answer and not guesses from posters.
  7. There was actually a law about 25-30 years ago that a Thai new born must have a Thai name only (the official name. Nickname could be anything). Back then some district offices were very strict about it whereas other districts didn't care and would register anything you wanted. I'm not sure if the law was removed or just mostly ignored these days. As for Jason young - he was born in 1980, about 10 years before that law was introduced...
  8. I think @Will B Goodmeant in the legal way you are either a Thai citizen or you're not. Once a person is legally Thai national there is no difference between different ethnicities.
  9. Never heard of any case that the land office refused a transfer of a title deed if the property is clear. The only cases that stop a transfer are court disputes, mortgages and a "red" chanot.
  10. Our he could sell to another person the land including the houses. Much better profit...
  11. I must admit I stopped reading after the tiger story as I came to the sad conclusion you simply have marital problems. Just find a new wife, one that thinks like you. Problem solved.
  12. The balance is in her own back account. He has no access to that account.
  13. Not true. Once I had my Thai ATM\debit card used online in South America, a place I've never been to. Called the bank. Got the money back after a couple of weeks. Another time I tried to withdraw cash in Indonesia. No cash came out but my account was charged. Called the bank a few days later, after coming. Got the money back a couple of weeks later.
  14. 1. Prostitution has never been legal in Thailand. 2. The idea of allowing foreigners to buy plots of land has been floated many times in the past but has never materialized so far so there's no approval and then changes to such law. As for cannabis - there was no changes to the laws of cannabis. It was simply removed from the list of category 5 drugs with few rules such as no under 20 (good), no pregnant / breast feeding women (would agree with this part IF same restrictions were put for sale and consumption of alcohol and cigarettes). What happened is that many people interpreted the changes in regulation as cannabis is completely legal for any type of usage including recreational, which I think it should be. I think no one thought that the day it was removed from cat.5 list there will be so much demand and offers on the market. Technically it SHOULD have taken about 5 months from the announcement until LEGALLY grown cannabis hit the market....
  15. I've complaining for years about the smell of durian and they all laugh!! And lucky I waited before buying the van...
  16. A quick search for the civil registration act shows this (few websites came up, all basically said the same): https://www.juslaws.com/business-commercial/thai-civil-registration A Thai person residing in Thailand must be registered in a house book. Without such registration that person cannot get a Thai national ID card, a passport, a driver's license and many other services. There is no such obligation for non Thai people residing in Thailand to be registered in a house book. Moreover, apart for those who hold permanent residence, non Thais cannot be registered in the blue House book and can only be registered in a yellow book which is issued in parallel to the blue book (can't issue a yellow book for a place that doesn't already have a blue book). So I think you're reference to the registration act as an obligation of the district office to register all non Thais residing in the district in a house book is wrong. The actual obligation for non Thai registration of place of residence is by the immigration department and by using TM forms such as TM30. That has nothing to do with District office.
  17. There are no such vaccines for COVID...
  18. You're hung on terminology. Seems like you're not really trying to understand which form to use and how, but just cling to your original question for argument sake. I'm not an expert on the different TM forms but from all above replies I already understand that a person that enters Thailand on visa exempt has to use form A in order to change the the type\length of permit to stay and a person that enters on a tourist visa has to use form B. As explained in earlier replies, the visa you had is not lost, but used, meaning if you exit Thailand and enter again you won't be able to use that visa. But your permit to stay is based on the visa you have (or lack of).
  19. Thanks, but as I mentioned earlier he is thinking to get it done here while visiting me and holidaying. I'm not going to Vietnam or any other country for his implants.. Thanks. No. 1 done already. No. 2 I don't know - guess the dentist here will check what needed. No. 4 he'll probably do back home after few months, or he might come here again for that.
  20. Yes, I told him he should check what type of implant as the crown itself has to be done a while after the implant and he must make sure he gets the correct implant for a crown made in Oz
  21. Thanks, but Istanbul is not an option. It's for a friend who was quoted in Oz A$6000 for the job and is thinking to get it done here while visiting me and holidaying.
  22. Yes, and "They are keeping and open mind as to the motive for the murder. "
  23. Well, this was a report by sanook, reporting of a report by a popular news\variety show, not a police report...
