Visas for a snowbird
bwanajohn replied to mikem20's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Since this tax issue has already been brought upon this thread I'd like to add this query. My experience with tax agreement between countries is this. It does not exempt you from paying tax in both countries just reduces the percentage -
Somethings crawling on us, but can't see them.
bwanajohn replied to 4MyEgo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My wife and I had a similar experience many years ago...Turned out it was baby spiders...there were so small the first couple days you couldn't see them. . -
They made a fist of the legalized cannabis roll out... If they had come out with regulations similar to the sale of tobacco or alcohol it wouldn't have been such a mess. Regulations about advertising ,etc would have been good. I m in Canada now and seeing how it's been dealt with here is so different to Thailand and not so in your face.

Does Voltaren/diclofenac require prescription in Thailand?
bwanajohn replied to cdemundo's topic in Health and Medicine
Short term use for both pills and gel. But that's true of most Nsaid. Long-term use..can cause liver ,kidney and stomach issues It's absolutely the best for kidney stone pain in the injectable form. But often not prescribed for seniors because of kidney and liver side effects .Older folks often have compromised liver and kidney function as a result of aging.Way better than opiates. -
About 5 years ago I contacted a business in the BKK area selling shipping containers . Guy I dealt with was Canadian ...I found them online.. I had it trucked up to where I was building a house about 3 hours southwest of Chiang Mai (fairly remote). Truck had a Hi ab crane on it. We poured some short appox 40cm x 40 cm post a few days before the arrival. to set it on so it would be level in an area that was accessible by the truck. I ordered the cheapest one available. Too beat up to got to sea anymore. But weather proof and still able to be closed and locked. It cost me just about 56000 baht. They make excellent secure storage. There is no economic sense to build a dwelling out of them. Having said that the creative aspect of building with them might be fun. I ve owned three in various countries ... make sure your ready to receive it in its final resting place cuz they are hard to move once dropped of with out a crane. A digger can drag then around but unless you have a massive digger you wont lift them easily. Good luck Sorry I dont have the contact info but that was before covid so probably not relevant. I though it might be cheaper to buy locally but the guys locally who pretty much paid what I Paid to have them delivered are justifiable keen to make some money on top and you still need the hi ab truck for a couple hours .

Thailand’s cannabis sellers say US growers are eating their lunch
bwanajohn replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The government needs to put 100% tax on foreign weed like they did coffee beans . Then they can have another domestic industry that never evolves to compete internationally. I find most of the bud here is old and stale probably due to poor handling. -
Will government hospitals and offices be open on 1 May?
bwanajohn replied to topswijaya's topic in General Topics
Probably best to assume govt and banks closed May 1 ,4,5, I was in CM immigration last week and they said they would be open on the 5 th but closed on the 4 th .but then he asked his colleague and the impression I got was that no one was quite sure... So the from April 29 to May 8 th there are only two days you can be sure banks and govt etc are open.May 2nd and 3 rd -
There are brick yards along the main road going to hangdong...and along the road that goes between the hangdong road and the canal road . Either the road to Samoeng or the night safari. Good luck and seal the visible surfaces before mortaring... otherwise really hard to clean and point.

A very long time ago I worked in an artisanal leather shop..we are talking fifty years ago..we made sandals ,bags ,belts , biker vests and literally thousands of holders for Bic lighters that you could wear around your neck. Shipped them from Stockholm to Paris I think 1972. You can use wood stain ...much cheaper then actual leather dyes.Because of the solvent based it will dry the leather out so you need to apply some kind of leather care water proofing product like "Dubbin " or Sno seal.Practise on something that doesn't matter to get the color so it's consistent with out streaks

List of foreigners that has become Thai citizens
bwanajohn replied to Eaglekott's topic in General Topics
That of course depends on the citizenship you now hold.. If you were from Haiti or ??? -
I bought my first condo in Thailand in 1989...just a couple years before everyone said the Thai housing market was about to collapse spectacularly. 1997 everything turned to custard briefly.(unless you were sitting on loads of foreign cash)The collapse of the Thai property market has been just around the corner for 30 years or longer. Some condo complex allow daily rentals thru Airbnb some only monthlly Some 3 month is the minimum rental period. Being a landlord takes a certain type of person not to be driven mad by tenants who don't give a damn about your concerns. If you think people are animals who will treat you and your property very badly that's probably what will happen..

Does Thailand really want to become a cannabis tourism hotspot?
bwanajohn replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm just back from 7 months in Canada, first time since cannabis was made legal for recreational use. I was quite impressed with the roll out there. We drove from west to east coast and saw how each province handles it. I wouldn't want to be the person tasked to figure out how it should be regulated. Thailand seems to have made it very easy and inexpensive for anyone to get the permits to sell it. I applaud the fairness and equality of this but it has lead to hotels offering free weed with a room and tiny kiosks in questionable appropriate places selling weed. Having it legally available for purchase is a good thing but high pressure sales promotions probably not. I hope they can find the middle path with the roll out here before they give up and make it illegal again. -
I live at a little over 3000 ft above sea level. The long rainy season has been fabulous...if you're not a rice farmer. It's only gets above 30 when we have a day with several hours of sun usually with cloud cover between 25 and 27and the nights are around 17 Yeah the towels could dry quicker...but the garden has been fantastic and we save about 400 baht not a month not having to water. Although when In Chiang Mai the humidity with the heat is a bit much.

Where can you attend English speaking buddhist church service in Bangkok?
bwanajohn replied to Goodboybkk's topic in Bangkok
The wat opposite suan dok hospital in CM had pre COVID some English language activities to introduce foreigners to Buddhism. Various Wats have meditation courses but they usually involve multi day stays in the wat. As for christian like church services nothing I m not aware of anything similar in English or Thai. -

Arrived back in Canada after 3 years away. Its not Thailand it's the whole frikkin world. I won't go on the rant but trust me nothin works here and it costs 10x as much to not get it done. 2 weeks to book an oil change on my truck and slightly over 6000 baht to have it done. It does take 14 litres of oil.

Trading in Thailand
bwanajohn replied to TT1951's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I could be wrong about this but I think trading platforms require that you provide a "number " that verifies that you are resident for purpose of taxation of some country. I trade with interactive brokers .They are also cheap to transfer money .But haven't normally allowed Thai residents to open an account in recent years .I'm a resident for taxation in a third country and maintain an address there so no issue. If you are making money in the stock market and not reporting the income anywhere for taxations you are indistinguishable from a criminal in there eyes.
