As smog season returns, can Thailand avert another health crisis?
Answer is really simple. While potentially we could avoid another health crisis due to several times exceeded air pollution limits, we won't. Because people causing pollution don't care. And because those who could stop these from doing it don't care. There are, in fact, reports, that this year will be even worse than last one, in which pollution lasted for 9 out of 12 months of the year, on most days exceeding air quality limits, not only WHO ones, but even Thai government limits, which are twice as high.

How does a proper account statement from Bangkok Bank look like?
The BKK Bank statement looks just like what you'd print out from your internet banking, except they stamp and sign it at the bottom. Yes, it looks just like the sample you have above.

Is the online test still necessary to renew 5-year drivers license, please?
About 6 months back. In that case, use Google Chrome or Edge Chromium to open the page, and right click into the page, then choose "Translate to English". Translation is good enough to answer correctly. It's a multiple option answer type question, mostly 4 options.

Is the online test still necessary to renew 5-year drivers license, please?
There's an online video you need to watch and answer correctly the questions that pop up in the middle of video. No idea about the English one, but Thai ones are quite straight forward, although video is all in Thai, by a man talking the whole time... It's basics, so you should know the answers to those off the top of your head (that is, if you can read Thai to understand what you're being asked). When you're done you're issued certificate which you need to bring with you to DLT. Then it's appointment (at least at Chatuchak), and coming with health certificate on the day of renewal for the 3 tests mentioned above and if all passed, you get your new license printed after signing some forms and taking a photo.

Leaving and getting blacklisted
Your "friend" should make sure to get to airport immigration and not get stopped by any police on the way, or things will turn bad very quickly. Travel during the day, use mode of transport that doesn't require showing passport, avoid any kind of checkpoints that could check his documents. Never been in that situation, just thinking out loud.

Do you think (most) financially struggling western retirees are stupid for not retiring abroad?
You're very lousy at reading, and only read what you want to see. I guess you didn't notice anything about language, culture, habits, courage,... But it's your post. Read whatever you wish.

Do you think (most) financially struggling western retirees are stupid for not retiring abroad?
Can you imagine old geezers who only speak their native tongue of some obscure language that nobody outside their village understand. They couldn't even communicate with staff at the airport they would need to transit through to get to their retirement destination country. They are now too old to learn new language. They know nobody in any other country. And they are completely anchored into the culture and habits of their homeland. Could they survive in a cheap country? Doubt it. Alternatively, imagine someone living in a very safe and organized country, like say Japan, where foreign languages are also an issue but people in other countries learn their language, so that's less of a problem. But can someone used to living in a developed World accept the chaos of the developing World that is inherently cheaper to live at, but at the cost of the very things that made his or her homeland a developed country? If they are adventurous, maybe, but large part of the population isn't at that age. And finally - moving to another country not only takes courage, but is also a significant financial burden, and if these people are already struggling where they know how to navigate through life, chances of them scrubbing together savings to move to a foreign land and live any better life, or heck, even same quality of life, would be very unlikely. That's my opinion, of course. I'm sure there are people who live for adventure or maybe have significant enough savings to support their move abroad, or are simply lucky to find a perfect destination for them and all just works out wonderfully. I'd just guess that would be a minority.

73 year old aerial snapshot of Bang Khen field sparks social media frenzy
Temple itself still looks largely the same, save some extra buildings. For those who don't know where this is, Don Mueang airport would have been maybe 1 km to the right.

True internet Netflix
I have 2 Gbps up/down True, alas in different part of town and have no such issues. However - I have router in kitchen cabinet... yes, no I am serious, thank you Sansiri for this amazing home design.... anyway, if I close the cabinet doors, the boxes inside overheat and I start seeing issues like you are describing. So now I keep door open and no longer have issues. If you touch router and it's very hot, then add a fan to it, or put it on something to give it plenty of space below and above to ventilate and don't keep it in enclosed space. These Huawei things get hot like oven.

Condo Juristic company in bed with Developer
Rent below 30 days in a residence without hotel license is illegal. You could get both owners and juristic office in hot water if you keep reporting, or get someone else to, report the illegal rentals to the police. Police wants money. Here's easy picking for them. Seems to have worked with condo at the end of Ekkamai with a cimple name, after word got out of police handcuffing and taking tourists away on daily basis...

I reckon the Savannakhet Embassy is about to become very busy..
That I agree. But computer systems are ever more integrated. This government is out to grab every satang as their coffers are more than obviously empty. The populist policies are going to cost a fortune on top of that. It's kind of like a broke man handing out donations, then robbing anyone he can to get the cash for it. But winning elections at any cost is what populism is all about, right?

Very easily. To issue you a visa, after checking time in country, they could ask you to provide them receipt of paid tax or reject your visa application. So easy to add one line to the requirements to apply for visa. On leaving the country, they could force you to get tax clearance document like many decades ago, if you stayed long time on wrong type of visa, or reject you exit. Philippine immigration loves to reject exit to their citizens, Thailand could do the same to you. Actually they aren't going to enforce anything. It is your responsibility to declare and settle taxes. If you don't and they find out, then they could penalise you later. The World is getting ever more connected. I don't think it's beyond imagination that immigration could get access to revenue department's data to verify whether taxes were paid or not.

Out of business, probably. The DIY computer market has shrunk tremendously lately, as people move to laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
