  1. There is no such legislation. A few years back I received an email from HSBC in Sheffield asking me to attend the branch which I did the next time I was back in the UK about 6 months later. They had picked up on the fact I was using a PO address and said it was bank policy not to service accounts for non residents. I explained the situation and he agreed to maintain the account subject to my pension being paid into the account and required my Thai address and bank account details. Also said the decision was discretionary and could be altered by another manager in the future.
  2. There are some on this forum that seem compelled to address a piece of text from a post rather than the context of the post. If I am not mistaken, distorting posts is a breach of the forum rules.
  3. No need to be concerned, the Vietnamese and Laos E-visas are intended for short term tourists. When I did a Laos E-visa a few weeks back it would not accept my Thai address, I had to use a UK address. Possibly looking for permanent address consistent with passport. The Thai E-visa is only available to people in certain countries and is a different arrangement altogether in that it covers different types of visa.
  4. But people are more than happy with the way things are done in Thailand, when it suits. Hypocrites or what.
  5. That is a misapprehension. https://savannakhet.thaiembassy.org/th/publicservice/non-immigrant-visa-o-visa-retirement-in-thailand?page=5d84a44c15e39c26b400453e&menu=5d84a44c15e39c26b400453f
  6. Yes it was shut for quite a while. I noticed it was open again back in December when my wife was doing her passport at the Avenue. Been many times since it first opened and they have now improved the salad bar, making it an island in the U shaped servery. If you like bacon look for it on the salad bar, next to the french bread. My only gripe with them is they never cook potatoes long enough.
  7. You have to bear in mind the EU is a lot more tolerant of tourists from this part of the world than others such as the UK. There is no reason why your girlfriend's application would not be successful, subject to requirement, in it's own right without any contribution from you. Any contribution from you only helps to support the application. Schengen visa applications are fairly standard and usually quite straightforward. When we went to Malta a few years back we had to use the Austrian VFS office and this was the requirements from the embassy at the time. For some reason VFS never highlighted the travel insurance requirement. Austria Visa Information - Documents Required.pdf
  8. Depends where you go. My wife tried to get me an appointment with the app using my pink card, didn't work. She phoned the DLT and they said all foreigners must make appointment in person. Trotted along to the DLT and just before lunch when we got there, she said can you come back at 2pm, no problem. Saw the video for the first time, prior to the rebuild Chonburi DLT never had a video room.
  9. Vietnam is not on the Thai E-visa platform, the only 2 in Asia are China and South Korea. The countries using the E-visa platform are mainly US/European and applying to one of them from Vietnam would not be allowed for someone in Vietnam on a tourist visa.
  10. Quite. Rule of thumb, if the dog hurts you nobody owns it, if you hurt the dog every Tom, Dick and Harry will try and claim ownership.
  11. If you do not mind me asking how old are you. I am coming up to 76 and often wonder if one is about to turn up.
  12. You should comment on what was said, not what you think was said. The OP made a generalised comment and received generalised response. The simple fact is you are incorrect, won't be holding my breath on an apology.
  13. I agree with your thinking, I have the T30 receipt in my passport and they always check it. If you are going to do marriage again then your wife should be with you and she could deal with it if the issue is raised. If she is not going to be there I would agree and she should go beforehand and hand it in.
  14. You should be on the stage, shortage of contortionists.
  15. That requirement is in respect of extensions, rather than visas. I recently obtained a Non O in UK using funds in a Thai account and I am fairly sure the same has been said about neighbouring countries.
  16. Personally I think you would be wasting your time. My bank has always given me the old book and if your bank was supposed to do the same, they may well say they did and you wouldn't be any better off. Two choices really, leave and return visa exempt or go to one of the neighbours and come back on Non O.
  17. A bit of an open ended question. The majority of opinionated dicussion comes about from contentious fact, when fact is established, debate is short lived. The issue of face masks is a prime example.
  18. Quite. It is institutional incompetence within the HO that stretches beyond the Passport Office. When the refugees from Ukraine were delayed being processed it turned out that there were only 2 staff in the main VFS office dealing with them. The Home Secretary immediatly told the House she would put more staff in place. Since when were VFS staff employed by the HO, but the MPs appeared to be ignorant on the issue and swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Things seem to have taken a real turn for the worse since the tories came to office and made Theresa May Home Secretary, she initiated the overseas passport reform.
  19. Casa Pascal was my favourite. We only go down to Pattaya now and again and always looked forward to eating there. Shame if it has been discontinued, only needed a couple of more visits to redeem the card. We were down not long ago but had family with us so went to the LK Empress for a bit wider choice. At 300 baht that is quite good and despite what some may think, in popular places demand ensures food is replenished regularly.
  20. You are mistaken. When your first 90 days came to an end there was no need to do anything, in fact depending on when your entry date there is a good chance you would not have been allowed inside immigration. For those that could not leave the country, myself included as I was also on ME Non O, there was a general amnesty on permission to stay. As the Sept deadline approached I went to immigration but could have waited as it was extended again until 31st October. I think it was about July that immigration offices started to open and it is not out of the question that immigration did an extension when there was no need to do so, but to clarify that you would need to understand the difference between the amnesty and an extension. Bangkok, 1 October, 2020 – The Royal Thai Government has extended visa amnesty for foreigners, who are unable to leave Thailand due to the country’s COVID-19 control measures, until 31 October, 2020. This makes the fourth extension of the policy, which first took effect from 26 March to 30 April, 2020. The second extension was from 1 May until 31 July, 2020, and the third extension from 1 August to 26 September, 2020. https://www.tatnews.org/2020/10/thailand-extends-visa-amnesty-for-foreigners-until-31-october-2020/
  21. The weekend sprinter service was introduced in early 2018 on a 6 month trial. it was taken out of service at the end of the 6 months but I hadn't noticed it had been reintroduced. On saying that I haven't used the train since before the pandemic. I live in Chonburi not far from the station and used the train quite often, usually coming off an overnight from the north or south
  22. I have been to more Thai funerals than I care to remember, from the very poor to the Royal Flame, even one at sea. I can assure you there can be great deal of emotion involved but as a general rule emotion is not something the Thais see as appropriate in public. You should also bear in mind that funerals in Thailand generally last a week, so by the the time the cremation comes they have come to terms with the loss.
  23. I thought it was back to weekdays only. The weekend "Sprinter" they put on was taken off and not heard of it being reinstated.
  24. You are scaremongering on the back of hearsay, and then have the arrogance to call people "mugs". If the post you are pedalling is legit, the person who made the post thought the same as you "we don't need to track the package" and look what happened. Absolutely nothing to do with payment methods, people have to accept responsibility for their actions, or lack of them.
  25. In the beginning there was an automatic covid extension, not a question of being offered. My permission to stay had run out in early May 2020 and then in Aug 2020 I was refused a 60 day to visit spouse on the basis of having had the auto extension. Like the OP I had obtained a ME Non O shortly before the pandemic. Fortunately just before the auto actually run out I had achieved the 12 transfers and managed to do the 12 month extension. ME Non O still had about 4 months to run.
