  1. Yes it was, I went 5th Feb 2020 just as the pandemic started, when got off at PB the station was full of what looked like aliens in hazmat suits. Think it was about 950 each way then but up to 1100 each way now so not a great deal in it overall. Price may well rise again when Bang Sue gets going.
  2. I didn't post the whole email only the part that pointed out the requirements and referred to checking passports. The email in fact had nothing to do with "in branch business", if I hadn't updated my information by the date specified I would have lost the use of online banking, not the account. Other than for immigration, I haven't done any branch business since 2009. What they were concerned about was my address, it hadn't changed since 1999 and was still "Room 235 Apex Hotel", how times have changed.
  3. No there is not, if covid results in premature death, it has killed you. It is all about the strength of the immune system and one thing is certain, unlike vaccination, opinions do little to strengthen the immune system. My niece is a junior doctor at a hospital not that far from Korat and in recent weeks they has been a rise in cases where covid has attacked what were relatively healthy lungs and been fatal.
  4. You would be wrong to doubt. This is an extract from an email I received in 2014. "We understand our foreign customers are staying in Thailand for various reasons. Please see the details of required documents that fit your status. Please contact our branch to update your information before 27 June 2014. 1. For Customer with Work Permit, please bring these items: A) Your passport. (Branch staff will take care of making copies of certain page such as Visa page and immigration stamp page). B) A copy of your Work Permit 2. For Customer with no Work Permit but possessing a visa for longterm stay: You can bring your passport to branch but please make sure your visa is a type that allow for minimum stay of 9 months. 3. For Customer who is currently enrolled in academic institute and has no Work Permit. A) Your passport. B) A letter from your academic institute to certify your status as a student. C) A copy of your student ID card."
  5. I usually use AXA, very reasonable. A couple of years ago we had to claim about 13K baht for baggage issues and that was paid without question. Fortunately never had to claim for anything health related.
  6. I live out in the sticks near Chonburi city so nothing is easy. I have thrown away a few desktops and printers in the past after they have supposedly been repaired. I take a similar view, I will have a go if prepared to brick it. I still have the Acer and may get round to it one day, but spare time with brain in gear is not that readily available, always something a bit more urgent.
  7. Exactly. I had an Acer that was shutting down due to overheating. took the back off and couldn't get anywhere near the fan. Watched a couple of Youtube videos and decided against it. I have had phones apart and not scared of electronics but these days some of the plastic parts used are very flimsy and easily broken, not worth the hassle. I scrapped it in the end. Finding someone you can trust to do a good job is easier said than done, despite what some keyboard experts would make out.
  8. Oh that it could be that simple.
  9. I seem to recall that at one time there was an issue over different versions of the app. I don't mean different versions of the same app but 2 apps with the same name. If you had the correct version installed, when you went to playstore it should have recognised that and offered an update, should have been no need for a download. When I looked at mine this morning I got the message that there was a new version, I clicked on the message and it took me to Playstore update screen. The update installed without a problem and the app opened. All I had to do was change language back to English. BTW my phone is a TP Link about 4 years old with Android 8.1.
  10. Just checked mine and message said new version. I did the update and app opened ok but had to change language to English. Slightly different presentation.
  11. Don't you think you should read a post before voicing a distorted opinion, although not uncommon on here. Please explain how you would know what costs are involved in a special inclusive menu. You are not under any compulsion to go so just stick to your fried rice.
  12. When the restrictions were in place everyone had to see the DCO on arrival, now it would only be if you asked or were picked up for some reason. In those days there weren't many arrivals and 4 or 5 doctors at the desk so not much of a problem. In normal times would be a bit chaotic.
  13. If delays are global why question delays to Thai banks? It's that narrow minded perspective again.
  14. You are perfectly free to believe European restaurants will be charging an equivalent price for Christmas lunch, watch out for the low flying pigs. Fairly obvious you have never been to the restaurant.
  15. Pink documents were issued on arrival, not asked for.
  16. Pink documents were issued by the Disease Control officer at the airport to arrivals when travel restrictions were in place. Generally they specified your status and quarantine requirements but that was inserted and could be for other reasons. Although no longer routine they could be used for anyone subject to observation. Govt hospitals do not charge for the vaccination so they would want to see something to back up any request. The OP should get his relatives to check with the DCO on arrival.
  17. Making out the delays are unique to Thailand is what is not very helpful. Of course there are those that think they are a special case and should be treated differently.
  18. Last time I bought Christmas lunch in UK it was just over £50/head and that was nearly 30 years ago. Since when did good European food come cheap, particularly this year. For many turkey will not be available at any price. Maybe you should stick to a Christmas kapao and a bottle of chang.
  19. Nothing to do with THB. I had the same message about a month ago sending USD from my UK account to a company in Canada, took about 24 hours. You really think there was a shortage of local funds? Over a few years the same transaction has varied from almost immediate to several hours. Will see what happens when I make the same payment next week. The busier Wise gets, the more it will resemble a normal bank. Transactions from my HSBC account vary from a couple of hours to a couple of days.
  20. You could try Casa Pascal, nice restaurant with good food, Italian bias. https://www.restaurant-in-pattaya.com/xmas-lunch-2022
  21. You shouldn't jump to conclusions. Many years ago i would have been one of the old guys. The girl I was seeing had to come and open the bar so I would grab a beer, relatively cheaper than a soft drink. After the one I would go get a paper and sit in the Apex for a couple of hours.
  22. Nothing new, my wife is second generation Chinese. Thailand has the largest overseas Chinese community in the world outside Greater China.[25] 11 to 14 percent of Thailand's population are considered ethnic Chinese. The Thai linguist Theraphan Luangthongkum claims the share of those having at least partial Chinese ancestry allegedly at about 40 percent of the Thai population without any proof.[3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_Chinese
  23. There is a big difference between temperature display and temperature control. The original point was in reference to control and clearly mechanical.
  24. I have just replaced the heating element on my sister in laws halogen oven, all basic components. But I have seen some airfryers with a digital display, which some may think makes it electronic.
  25. I thought the same and bought a small one but it didn't cook very well. My niece had bought a larger one and thought it was too big so we swapped. The larger one cooked much better, probably better airflow. As you say not suitable for everything, I also have a halogen oven which many seem to think is also an air fryer, but the much lower airflow restricts it from the same comparisons. Roast potatoes about 10 minutes in the air fryer and over half an hour in the halogen, says it all. Both are very useful appliances.
