  1. 13.5k THB for about 2kWh of energy. That means you need four of these for 57k THB to be able to have a power output of about a Honda Click 125 for just one hour. Battery tech will rapidly improve but we have a way to go before it really makes sense in anything apart from a low powered Scooter. But when it comes, I'll welcome all that instant torque ????
  2. Yea I know. It is not required but can make things a lot easier.
  3. It was through the COE process BUT under the new rules that applied after Nov 1st which also apply to Thailand Pass. I actually went to the consulat before applying and asked specifically how long I need insurance for and they told me for the duration of stay which according to the re-entry permit would have been 2-3 weeks but got rejected when actually processing the application. It might have been an error on the part of the consular staff and maybe the staff processing the Thailand Pass applications don't have that same requirement. I applied through the Thailand Pass system with the 90 days insurance and got approved. So at least the fact that one does not need a return flight is 100% clear. I am not sure however if they allow that if one for example has a Tourist Visa. In any case I would suggest booking a return flight that can be refunded.
  4. Now that you mention it I actually had a valid Re-entry permit. The permit was only valid for a bit over two weeks and yet they still required 90 days insurance.
  5. Out of thin air. Noone told me that before and I couldn't find it written anywhere. But I was first rejected intially because I had booked a shorter coverage period. They told me I needed at least 90 days coverage so I re-applied with that and was approved.
  6. That doesn't make sense. If they are limited in power to less than or equal 35kW or 400CC then they are *not* Big Bikes. I'm with JonnyF. I am not endangering myself by artificially driving slower than everyone else even though I have better brakes and reaction times than 99%+ of others on the road. That would mean to always ride very far on the left because the cars will be constantly overtaking. No way, José. While we are on the topic of road safety can someone PLEASE PLEASE tell those maniacs in the road department to not scratch up the roads in bends and leave it with deep crevices that make it super dangerous for motorcycles? That practice has sprung up in a few places around Phuket and surrounding provinces I noticed. Absolute insanity.
  7. How would they count the 70 tourists visting Hua Hin? I doubt they have checkpoints set up on the roads to do that. What they probably mean is that 70 foreign tourists arrived at Hua Hin airport via international flight. But that is a tiny minority of the visitors to Hua Hin who usually fly into say BKK and then visit Hua Hin by for example car. Very misleading article.
  8. A return flight is not needed but you need to have Covid insurance covering at least 90 days from the day of arrival in Thailand. I got approved without a return flight (as I live in Thailand). I do not know if that is accepted if on a Tourist visa. I suggest though that you book some kind of return flight that can be cancelled/changed/refunded.
  9. There is no distinction between smaller and bigger bikes for about 20 years. Back then there was a period where the regulations were different for bikes under and over 125cc. It is 95 dB(A) for all now. Measured at half the RPM where it makes max power or 3/4 if the max power is at less than 5000 RPM. Outside that RPM is another story. Welcome to the concept of electronically actuated exhaust valves. Source: https://ia802902.us.archive.org/11/items/th.cs.341.e.2543/th.cs.341.e.2543.pdf
  10. Well, motorcycle plates are not in the same price range as car plates.
  11. But he is not trying to freely state his opinion on the street with a record of everything said publicly visible and searchable. It's just good practice to not post personally identifyable information online when not required to. Some might call it data hygiene. He has next to nothing to gain by posting his full number plate so why do it? Doesn't take much, no big connections needed for someone to get the registration info. Just a bit of greasing. Hence my "you must be new here" snark.
  12. Because someone might get his real name from the plate and then it's tied to his pseudonym here. That can have a chilling effect on him. I think he is following good practice. Although of course redacting the name of the province and then writing which province it is is a bit useless ????
  13. I've gone through this checkpoint on the weekend but the other direction. We were not stopped and I think they checked only in one direction. Then another one at the Kata viewpoint which checked for alcohol via breathalizer which is an interesting situation now as due to Covid they can't make you put it in your mouth and instead one just blows onto the thing. I have some doubts about the health safety of that method but it's the police officers who are more at risk. That check was passed and they didn't check for driver license or anything else and let us on our way. Might have helped to have a small kid in the car so clearly we were not out partying/drinking. There seem to have quite a few checkpoints sprung up since the countries opening. I also noticed around the Chalong cycle area a lot more checks and quite a few foreigners being stopped. I guess they are back to fleecing tourists. What a great first impression ???? Were those road blocks not abolished by the chief of the RTP? I remember there was a requirement to have a higher ranking officer present plus they need to be "permanent" checkpoints and not these fly by night operations with just a traffic cone.
  14. This is a misunderstanding I think. After 3 years of not paying taxes the bike get de-registered. You can register the bike again (it's like a new registration) and they will use the old greenbook to help with the process BUT you will not get the old number back. It's like a completely new registration and can be done even without green book. It's just more work.
  15. You can get any letter-number combination from the official registry for very little money as long as it is free and not on the banned list (e.g. SS, HJ etc) in Germany. BO would be Bochum. But this is getting off-topic as we should be talking about Thailand.
  16. Colorized plates (e.g. the purple-ish or yellow background ones) are limited issue runs that are auctioned off by the DLT. A portion of the funds will be used for road safety measures. Some with not so special numbers have just a fixed markup for the background.
  17. Doubt that because german number plates don't have leading zeros ????
  18. How long has it been untaxed? If more than 3 years then you got unlucky (despite the number :)) because the plate will not be valid anymore.
  19. Correct, you can only transfer bike to bike (or car to car) as there are different types of plates. And you can only transfer to another vehicle to be registered in the same province as the plate of course does not change and it states the province on it. Some DLTs also require the transfer to be between vehicles owned by the same owner. There are no plates for normal plebs that dont have number+letter+province on it. If you see one then it's usually a fake plate that is not used on public roads. E.g. on a car exhibition.
  20. If it's a motorcycle plate from BKK with number 1 then it's worth probably around 20k-40k depending on the letters. Some rare ones are worth more. There are plenty of numbers which are actually worth more than "1", something like 9999 for example. Plates outside of BKK might be worth more or less depending on demand. The real money goes only for car plates.
  21. I have just received 5 (five) approval emails. I am not sure how many submissions I originally made that resulted in errors but I have had 1 (one) successful submissions screen and 1 (one) email that I successfully registered. That means that the submissions with an error might have anyways ended up in the system and been processed. Of course the user has no way to know that. I also got approved even though I presented EU vaccination certificates which have no passport number on them which others were rejected for. ????‍♂️
  22. If arriving at Phuket Airport yes. Link: https://www.thailandpsas.com/
