  1. Plenty of 2M or less houses around Chiang Mai. My new 3 bed house cost 1M8bht a few years back (now at 2M2bht).
  2. Highlands coffee and baguette for $2 is a safe choice if worried. I actually prefer Viet food to Thai food, but prefer Indian and Mexican. Plenty of good Indian restaurants in VN and not expensive either.
  3. She needs to have a job, 25kbht/month will get you a 1M5bht mortgage. No credit history required, just 6 months wage slips. No job = no mortgage. My misses owed 500kbht, taken to court, not allowed to own anything for 5 years then debt written off. 2 weeks after the debt was written off she got a 1M5bht mortgage using forged pay slips (no job) ......... so I don't think credit history is even considered in Thailand. Be aware, She may be deliberately sabotaging the mortgage application in the hope you'll be daft enough to pay cash. Mine certainly tried that until she realised no mortgage = no house purchase.
  4. I was there and now I'm here, but I don't feel any better or worse.
  5. Nobody is defending the guy, but it's a trivial offence, no big deal. Age of consent in the UK is 16, so legal IMHO, if morally iffy.
  6. I actually went on a ay trip to France with the school, and the girls went and sat on the beach away from us teachers, topless, with one of the male teachers. Girls ages were 16-17. I had no reason to think she was lying.
  7. No, he's already out on bail and facing a 30k-60kbht fine and deportation. Unless he marries her, in which case all charges will be dropped and he can stay.
  8. I suspect a lot of the posters making these 'hang em high' posts have no contact with school kids and have no idea what the 13 and 14yo girls are getting up to back in their home countries.
  9. Normally they set bail much higher than the likely fine. I'm guessing he'll be fined 30k-60kbht, then deported.
  10. Currently summer in Thailand. And not any hotter.
  11. More interested in Shoreham by sea ....... where my former beach side home still is above water. Odd how these places nobody has ever heard of are suffering from sea level rises, but no civilised place is. Guess the sea level doesn't rise the same amount everywhere. Eureka!
  12. I'm using less air con this year in CM than any of the previous 10 years. If it's any hotter, I'm certainly not feeling it.
  13. I didn't give a poop about the ozone layer, or atmospheric CO2, or rising sea levels, or ice cap reductions either.
  14. 15 in France, I remember the Brit schoolteacher that took a 15yo student to France and had sex. Couldn't get him for sex with a minor as the French said it was OK. Got him the same as this guy, for abducting her from her parents. He did some jail time.
  15. I'm all for you doing anything that gives you less time to spam this forum with your pointless threads.
  16. It already did ........... 100 in one go ........ https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/golf-cart-fleet-goes-up-in-flames-at-thai-army-academy/
  17. As a Brit I can safely say, We conquered the world in our bid to find women who would have sex with us. For some reason our own women don't want us. To defeat the world we needed to be more violent than anyone else. And if you start a war with us, you'll find out how violent we can be.
  18. 15 is the legal age of consent in Thailand, but some parental property rights last longer, which is why this guy is in trouble.
  19. Not anywhere in Europe. America is not the world!
  20. Don't leave your luggage backpacks exposed. Backpack always on the front, especially bording bus/train (a crowd of 10 will work together to push, crush and steal. There's a public bus service at every airport to the town centre ($1-$2), no need to hire a taxi (quite often the locals at the airport will lie about the bus existing). Money, take Thai baht and your Thai ATM card. Buy a data sim for your phone, so Google maps will work. Try Viet coffee, it's good but strange (strong coffee + condensed milk) Highlands coffee, do a good coffee + baguette for a couple of dollars.
  21. Off topic, But teaching in the UK is more like being a prison guard IMHO (I used to be a teacher). Working conditions would be great if no parents or students.
  22. Ninh Binh/Tam Coc was my favorite, enjoyed cycling around and climbing up the Kast, then onto the 2hr rowing boat ride through the caves and lakes. I also did the cultural walking Tour in Hanoi and the evening walking food tour, all good (and not expensive). Hoi An was the worst place I visited, arrived on the 7am bus from Da Nang, returned on the 9am bus. Not that much to see around Saigon, up north around Hanoi has way more stuff to do. Mekong Delta trip, coach, cruise, rowboat, snake farm, honey farm, lunch, all tourists but very cheap and enjoyable.
  23. OP said they didn't want tourist trips. Halong Bay - mass tourists, better get the train from Hanoi to Ninh Binh and hire a bicycle (just opposite the train station). Hoi An - too many tourists, totally packed. Mekong Delta - 100% tourist trap (Cai Be). Here's Hoi An, the Chinese tourists looked quite nice, but by 9am so many of them you couldn't move. Ninh Binh, Tam Coc
