I would immediately blame the attackers because there is no excuse for violence, ever. This was a typical 13 on 1 Thai attack, doesn't matter what the guy said, or his past. I think its absolutely common for people to be beaten to death in Thai villages over nothing. Multiple reported cases every week, mainly Thai victims as they are the majority.

This incident is a perfect example of why you should never move to her village.
