  1. Easy to see what happened, it's written on the wall. Lady rented for 1 year, deposit 32,000bht Year ends, Lady waits for return of deposit, "I'm not leaving until I get my money back" 2 weeks later no returned deposit, so trashes the apartment. There is no legal way to get your money back. Court action will take at least 2 years, and most tourists can't sit in Thailand doing nothing for that long.
  2. https://s.lazada.co.th/s.EAcLq But you gotta buy them on sales days with vouchers, to get them at 60bht Inc delivery.
  3. Agree, maybe the art supplies, but buy everything else here.
  4. If I were a tourist on a sabbatical, it'd be Thailand under 60 days, Vietnam under 45 days, then Phillipines for as long as I like because they ain't counting. Why the desperation of all these 'tourists' to stay in Thailand?
  5. When I'm feeling lazy it's cow pat gung @ 42bht.
  6. I just looked on Agoda for accomodation in Chiang Mai, loads for under 400bht/night and half of them had decent pools.
  7. Science museum, Victoria and Albert museum, Natural History museum, British museum, Hyde Park, Kensington gardens ......... I never visit anywhere else.
  8. They certainly are at Huay Tung Tao lake, and Queen Siri?? Botanical gardens in Chiang Mai. I don't think they are bothered what colour skin the foreigners have, just over 60.
  9. Did you pay the park warden direct? The guides like to charge the foreigner price, then give the warden the Thai price. The last time I went to Koh Samet I refused to pay the park price on the boat, they phoned the park warden to meet the boat as they had a problem foreigner. I handed the park warden my Thai D/L and the Thai price, as I exited the boat, which he took, returned my D/L and walked away.
  10. It's all over now Nestle won and are back in the shops. Just a problem in April.
  11. They never advertise over 60s have free entry, but in many places that's the rule.
  12. Longest storm less streak in 50 years, so the storms they aren't having are of higher intensity? Only a lefty could say that!
  13. CNN says the opposite https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/27/weather/tropical-cyclone-frequency-21st-century-climate/index.html And in 2024-2025 ....... longest storm less streak in 50 years https://www.accuweather.com/en/hurricane/5-reasons-behind-the-historic-absence-of-tropical-storms-this-hurricane-season/1688808
  14. Impossible, as I'm 70 and already outlived most of my friends and family. On the other hand, maybe their food choices were even worse than mine. Can't say I've noticed food inflation in Thailand exceeding my foreign income inflation though. I'm guessing they can't afford to push up Thai prices, as they'd force, loan defaults, starvation and maybe even civil unrest.
  15. If I take your last 3 years, 153k to 167k My pension has risen by 20% in that 3 years, exchange rate same. So my 153k + 20% = 184k Vs 167k Essentially I'm 17kbht better off now, just on food.
  16. Evening out in Chiang Mai, Moose cider at rooftop Jungle bar 100bht La Casita, Spicy pork taco, chicken taco, chips and dip with a coke 200bht (inc tip). Small Leo in the Moat house rooftop bar 85bht with live music. Hardly expensive!
  17. Thanks, ...... wet girl in shower ....... I had to look!
  18. Still buying my ginger nuts from Lazada at 60bht a pack delivered (with vouchers).
  19. No worries. I don't have any health insurance!
  20. 2009, my first trip to Thailand, didn't even think of coming. Felt like a holiday, went to my local travel agent in Cornwall. Said I wanted to go somewhere long haul and inexpensive. Thailand, 240 pounds return from Heathrow to Bangkok, no VISA required. Three days later on the plane, had no idea about Thailand, no plans, no accomodation. Got off the plane late night, hung around a bit dazed, a bunch of backpackers noticed me. Q: Where you going mate? A: Haven't a clue! Follow us then we're off to Kosan road. So I followed them down to the basement on a bus, $1.50 fare and the bus dropped us off on a big main road. Followed then through narrow dark alleys thad there we were. Kosan road, never heard of it before, they were off to some nasty dorm rooms, I wandered around looking for a hotel with a pool.
  21. Funny how this stuff never happens where I live. Was more concerned about grid failure in Spain (more net zero madness). Currently, it's been my coolest year in Chiang Mai out of the past 15 years. Off topic, Florida has always had Hurricane problems, was it in the 1920s where the big one took out all their train track? Tampa Bay 1921, Labour Day 1935, etc. Nothing to do with climate change, the hurricanes have always made it unlivable. Back in the sailing days, only pirates and indians were prepared to live there. It's just one big snake and alligator infested swamp! Labour Day https://www.loc.gov/item/2021670725/
