  1. It's an easy choice to make. How much time do the people back home spend with you. If the answer is 'none', then that's what you leave them.
  2. I pay a much younger woman to provide me with a pretend 'normal family life'. As far as I can see that's what most expats are doing. I don't think I've ever met a white guy that doesn't provide all for his pretend wife. If all the guys you know are 'pathetic moaning freeloading wasters' I'd suggest it's a feature of the places and people you choose to hang out with. Maybe it's time for you to rethink your life and choose some better quality friends.
  3. Ridley Road, Quite enjoyed the program, Agree my Aunt married a Polish Jew who came over in the war, my first kiss was with a Jewish girl. I didn't see any anti-Jewish feelings either, this was 1960s-early 1970s.
  4. I thought his movies were all rubbish. Can't see anything wrong with his private life, no evidence he ever did anything even slightly naughty. All false accusations made by a mad-woman ....... most of us have been there. Watching 'American Rust' tv series and enjoying it.
  5. Where I live (just outside Chiang Mai) everything is much the same as it was. Apart from them serving beer in buckets with a straw, still 80bht for a large one.
  6. The white folk mainly want to leave (like I did). If you like it there so much, why are you posting on Asean Now?
  7. Smart phone is very useful for navigation in the jungle when walking or MTBiking.
  8. Not true, Makro own brand cheddar is 309bht/Kg (a bit plastic), and NZ Mainland vintage is 265bht/500gm (quality cheese). But these are all trivial complaints compared to house prices. My 3 bed home repayments are 9k/month, in the western world it would be at least 4x that.
  9. I give my MiL 3,000bht/month not to live with me. Well worth the money, and my misses never gets to complain to her mom about me, mom is always on my side. If she comes to visit it's -100bht/night.
  10. http://www.jinzon.com.tw/Fredericks/sens_tilt_0717_4304.tpl.htm
  11. AIS SiM 100GB/month data, unlimited free calls to other AIS SiMs. 1,500bht/year. If you have a wife/gf just buy two, give her one and you can call each other as often as you want for no charge. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/ais-10-mbps-100gb-ais-12-sim-net-inw-tree-mobile-i1400912107-s3585368239.html
  12. Just pay Kerry or the Post Office to ship a box of stuff to your home. Or wear a coat with big pockets full of the heavy items when you board the plane. Or wear all your clothes, take them off after you board.
  13. If you're paying a woman a wage to pretend to love you, why would you care about what happens when you're gone? Also no woman in the world makes plans for her husband to live FoC after she dies, give them the equality they demand.
  14. Come TEOTWAWKI everyone in Thailand will still be eating, and everyone in the western world will be starving. I think it's a good idea to plant by hand on small family farms, keeps the costs down and it's not as if they have anything better to do.
  15. I've not found that to be true in Thailand. In 2009 I was spending 60k/month as a single guy in a single room. In 2021 I'm spending 35k/month as a family of four in a 3 bedroom house. And I've been living very comfortably the whole time.
  16. My moobaan has better rooms than that for 2,000bht, and there's a village green with trees and tables to sit at if you like. It's an extra 500bht if you want one with air-con. (4k if you want the ground floor shop) It's very rare for me to sspend more than 50bht on a meal, but I do most of my own cooking. Baked potato and chilli = 25bht, Mince pork and onion pasty and chips =25bht, pork steak and chips = 35bht. I sometimes get chicken kebabs for the entire family from my local food market = 70bht.
  17. Not me, All the Thai girls I've met slept/lived with were great. And the Viet, Khmer and Filipino ladies as well.
  18. Internet wasn't very fast back then, even when I arrived here in 2009 internet was very iffy.. I prefer life with a fibre connection and all the free music, books, games, TV series and movies I can download.
  19. My wife prefers me not to post identifiable photos of her on forums. I thought the mask looked better than a smiley face.
  20. 1. Damp course, nobody bothers, the only damp is when the floodwater is higher than your front door. 2. My recent home extension guarantee ran out when I paid the builder. 3. If you insulate your loft, the insects will enjoy living and eating your ceiling. 4. Don't know. 5. Make sure they order more tiles than you need, and check the boxes are all unopened and the same batch number. You can't match the tile colour if you run out, and opened boxes always have different colours mixed in that the tiler won't notice, or won't care about. 6. Make sure to have the plastic/silver sheeting under the roof sheets/tiles, it'll leak if you don't, then you'll need to replace the ceiling.
  21. Full speed in reverse while attempting a tight turn played no part then? My (limited) experience driving boats was that reverse was extremely dangerous under all conditions.
