  1. No - Apparently now it's :- "Even More Amazing Thailand!"
  2. "The department ordered the head of Bangkok Remand Prison to go to the hospital to check the performance of duties and maintain order." "Maintain order"? Says a lot for the Security in a Police Hospital!!!
  3. Determined police in Lopburi worked through early Saturday morning to identify and arrest a 26-year-old man who snatched the handbag of a UK tourist at midnight. Latest tourism security scare in the centre of Lopburi. A 26-year-old man was arrested on Saturday following an early morning handbag snatch targeting a UK tourist in the city in Central Thailand famous for its uproarious monkeys. The Royal Thai Police is turning to elephant patrols in response to a directive by PM Srettha Thavisin to upgrade security for tourists in Thailand. It comes with visitor numbers from China down substantially in October following the tragic Paragon Shopping Centre shooting in the Pathum Wan area of Bangkok on October 3rd. The latest incident saw police in Lopburi province arrest a local 26-year-old after he snatched the handbag of a 37-year-old UK visitor as police nationwide remain on high alert to protect the Kingdom’s image. Do we really need to be told THREE times about a handbag snatch in an article about elephants?
  4. Why do you assume he was Russian? Could be a "Tall Thai" - after all the new PM is 192 cm tall (6ft 3 ins), or Dutch - they have the tallest people in the World? However, with a name like "Fluke" and the " "relentless overnight operation by the Thai police", one could assume that this is a staged incident designed to ensure that the "swift and efficient action reaffirms the dedication of the Thai police to uphold the safety and security of both its citizens and international guests, ensuring Thailand remains a hospitable and secure destination for global travelers." 🙂 Who writes this stuff?
  5. What a surprise! So, he's really sick, then? 🤣
  6. Got to agree - however I remember flying with a particular airline from Glasgow to Bangkok (via Dubai!) and the check in "girl" said "Your hand luggage is a bit heavy "sonny" (I was in my forties at the time!) - you'll have to put some of it into your check in baggage". So I said "In Manchester, they usually allow a couple of kilos leeway on your cabin luggage (as long as it's not too large to fit in the overhead locker) and the total weight doesn't exceed the limit". Her reply? "Aye, well ye're no in Manchester now, sonny, ye're in Glasgae" and sent me to the back of the queue to "rearrange" my luggage! In retrospect, I should have reported her attitude, or asked to see her supervisor, but I've never flown with that airline from "Glasgae" again!
  7. Should they not have been doing this, like, for ever? (Deliberate use of the Americanism!)
  8. I think readers must be getting fed up (I know I am!) with all kinds of bad behaviour being blamed on "the demon weed marijuana" when it's more likely to be a combination of booze and yaba/meth
  9. A "distraught" Russian tourist was arrested on Wednesday morning, October 18th, in Soi Buakhao, Pattaya, after allegedly causing a disturbance in the area. That's a new word for it! And "allegedly"? Surely that word is not necessary as there seem to be plenty of witnesses?
  10. "........some Russian individuals might exploit the visa-free program to come to Thailand in order to work illegally as guides or drivers in the tourism industry." Or even open hotels and restaurants and ......................?
  11. It was blatantly obvious from Day One of this charade about Thaksin coming home to "face the music" and serve his time "because he wanted to come home and look after his grandchildren" that it was an absolute farce, and anyone who believed any different is very naïve! We, as "farangs", can only shake our heads in disbelief as to what passes for justice and democracy in this country, and there are those that would say that things are no better in Western countries, but at least in the West, the public do not swallow such propaganda as truth! I have quoted it before, but an outstanding example is "The Watchman" who expected people to believe that he borrowed millions of baht's worth of watches from a friend, couldn't give them back because the friend was dead ,and anyway he had forgotten about them? I mean, come on, does he take his countrymen as fools? Erm? YES! And the saddest thing about it is that there does not appear to be a solution to this attitude of riding roughshod over the people. 😞
  12. POLICE CHIEF Pol.Gen. Torsak Sukwimon today (Oct.17) ordered executive officials of Police Hospital to find out about the current condition of the “sickly” de facto Pheu Thai boss/convicted inmate Thaksin Shinawatra and whether he could possibly have feigned his way to hospital only to stay away from jail as alleged." Good luck with that! The newly-named police chief said he does not know much about the event in which the deposed prime minister has been staying at Police Hospital .............." Erm? Why not?
  13. "..........a one-month stay abroad, such as in Thailand, may not be enough." Does the Thai Government have any idea how much annual leave/holiday the people in other countries in the World get? The UK gets 20 days per year, the US gets 10 days after 1 years service, and Russia appears to be one of the best with 20 - 37 days. So how can they justify a 90 days extension - obviously a lot of Russians have a lot of money and don't need to work? Or are they "absconding from their patriotic duties"?
  14. "...................the Corrections Department is considering the possibility of granting him parole should his treatment surpass the 60-day mark,.........." Wow! What a surprise!
  15. "This unfortunate incident has tarnished the reputation of Pattaya, a cherished tourist destination" ???? The writer should copy this ready for pasting next week (if not before!) As some of my countrymen would put it "Gawd luv a duck - do me a favour, mate!"
  16. They have to be seen to be doing something! Apparently, the "Siam shooting" could affect the tourist trade! ????
  17. I NEVER believe any figures rom TAT! They are usually shrouded in "hope for", "wish for", "expects" etc etc etc.
  18. Will the cost of these "Amazing Thailand" SIM cards be paid for by the 300 baht tourist tax, or is that all earmarked for paying the hospital bills of "absconders"?
  19. Lots of TT posters on here think that that is behaving badly!
  20. Haven't seen any reports of Swedes misbehaving in the last few days? And why should it matter whether your Thai missus agrees with you or not?
  21. Didn't want to make more of them cancel their holidays here!
