Thai MP-elect aims to break £11bn alcohol duopoly with progressive bill
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"PS not a big beer drinker and I think Thai beers are fine." Which is exactly why you think Thai beers are fine! A beer drinker knows the difference between beer and lager. For the most part they (Leo, Singha, Chang etc) are not beer - they are lager, and proper beer drinkers know the difference! -

I'll second that and drink to it - if I could afford to! ???? -

I wish someone (a new MP?) would also take up the case for reducing the tax and import duties on wine, which has been mentioned before, but nothing seems to go any further than the discussion stage! As it stands, the price on (imported) wine is absurdly high, basically because the "powers that be" (The Big 2 or 3) would rather we drank their beer rather than somebody else's product, (obviously!) so presumably they are putting pressure on the Government by implying withdrawal of their support (i.e money/tea money - whatever you care to call it!) Let's hope that members of any future Government enjoy a glass or two of vino, rather than cheap lager/beer or Sang Som sets! -

Getting refunds for anything seems to be difficult in Thailand - even though you have a receipt and the original packaging, and the item is faulty, or on closer inspection not what you ordered/expected. "Thailand - Land of Smiles and No Refunds" -

6 Indian men arrested for overstaying in southern Thailand
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
A real threat to national security and public safety then? Maybe their ice cream had gone "off" in the heat and a disgruntled customer with a dodgy stomach grassed them up? -
Thai Immigration Bureau Intensifies Crackdown on Overstaying Foreigners
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, I agree they broke the rules, but how many people do you see everyday breaking the rules with impunity by not wearing a crash helmet while driving a motor bike? The point I was making is that surely there are bigger fish that the IB should be concentrating their efforts on? Re the 90 day reports and TM 30's I couldn't agree more! Somebody made a point the other day that Thailand is the only place he knows where you have to report to Imm every 90 days to let them know that nothing has changed since your previous visit. In other countries you have to let them know when something HAS changed! And I suspect that the "real criminals" are unlikely to be reporting their presence every 90 days anyway - they will have found the right direction to channel their "tea money"! -
Pita Limjaroenrat: Meet Thailand’s (probable) next leader
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A bit like "insubordination" in the Armed Forces, except this young soldier didn't sign up or get conscripted! How Prayut must wish that he had! -
Thai Immigration Bureau Intensifies Crackdown on Overstaying Foreigners
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
These actions also demonstrate the Bureau's commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining national security." I wonder how many of those overstayers that were apprehended actually did present a threat to "public safety and national security"? I would imagine very few if any! -
I think we are talking about different scenarios here - the "man of the day" has not been disqualified (Yet!)

And you know this for a fact?

As already quoted, apparently he sold his shares to his mother ("and can prove it") probably knowing what would happen if he got this far ahead in "The Game"!
-
Hear, hear! Apparently the shares in question were sold to his mother, and he can prove it, so perhaps he was aware that "they" would try that trick!
-
If he has sold the shares to his mother and is able to prove it, then surely, legally the shares don't belong to him?
-
I thought I read somewhere that he denied the shares were in his name, anyway?

Senate panel to study Move Forward party’s PM candidate
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Whoever the Senate (And Prayut's party) decide will be the next PM!!! ???? But if he does become next PM, he should "deinstate" the lot of them - they were put there illegally in the first place! -

Well said! And no doubt the Senate panel will be trying to find as much proof as they can that he is absolutely the right man for the job! ???????? -
Move Forward Party to Submit 45 Bills for Amendments and New Laws
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"...how much wine do you see in Thailand....(?)" And why do you think that is? Anything do do with:- "Generally, the excise tax for wine is calculated as 60% of the CIF value plus tariff, excise tax paid, and municipal tax." -
Move Forward Party to Submit 45 Bills for Amendments and New Laws
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I agree that it is an important issue, but not the fact that it should appear to be the second most important item on the agenda. This LGBT, and WOKE ( WTF? - that's the first thing I do every morning! ???? ) should surely be a less important priority than people trafficking, or corruption - for instance. Or is it just a convenient "easy baby steps" for a new government to introduce some new legislation that will not have much opposition , and consequently a "didn't they do well?" in their first few weeks? Maybe a tad off topic, but it does have a certain relevance - UK expats may remember that one of Tony Blair's first achievements when he got into power was the introduction of the "Old Folks Winter Fuel Payment" - a move that was very well received at the time and cemented his popularity. Move a few years down the line and his involvement in the Iraq war, and instant drop in popularity! However, one can never predict the future behaviour of a new Government - just hope that it abides by its promises, which is something in which that Prayut's lot were lacking!
