Pheu Thai will try to get its candidate selected as PM next Thursday
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes, wrong topic - that's my point!!! But I do like your analogy! -
They do seem to expect better treatment than anyone else - the "Do you know who/what I am?" attitude! However, it does seem to have mellowed a bit since their leadership has dragged them into a war not of their choosing, and they are here to a certain extent "under sufferance" trying to escape it. They certainly seem to be a bit quieter than they used to be - or maybe my sense of hearing is getting worse!

What has this post got to do with teen violence in Pattaya - which is what I clicked on! -
My same impression exactly - I held a door open for a Russian family a couple of years ago as they were "laden down" and got a scowl in return for my smile! I said "You're welcome" to their backs, and got another scowl back! They seem to think that somehow they are entitled to subservient behaviour! Since then, no more Mr Nice Guy with Russkies!

Thailand sees tourism growth skyrocketing to three trillion baht in 2023
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And yet, during the early days of Covid, I remember Anutin saying that tourism accounted for very little of GDP! (Along with other "pearls of wisdom"!) He's strangely quiet these days - I wonder why? Seems his ambition to be PM has been "shelved" - or is he just gathering his PR team for a final push? -
Thailand sees tourism growth skyrocketing to three trillion baht in 2023
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As soon as I saw "3 trillion baht", I thought TAT have got to be in here somewhere and I was not disappointed:- "In response to these favourable conditions, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced an innovative campaign titled “Amazing Thailand Health and Wellness: New Chapters New Experience” They'll be needing a whole paragraph to themselves for the title of their next "campaign"! -
So taking power by guns and tanks, and installing 250 of your cronies in the Senate is "Proper procedures"? "yeh, right!" So you're advocating corruption as a good thing for the country?

Naive - he thought he could act like "The Watchman" and talk his way out of it.

When I used to complain to my father about something he'd done that he criticised me for doing, he used to say, "Do as I say - not as I do!" Also, an expression from the past that seems very apt, as Thailand's leaders seem to want to stay there - "Children should be seen and not heard" (For "Children", substitute "The Thai people")

"Prawit may not be in the equation yet but I'm sure he's just waiting and biding his time." Did you really mean to say that? I can think of a few comments to make about that, but will refrain for the sake of brevity!

Pita ordered to suspend doing his duties as an MP

And the likes of Prawit and his undeclared assets are just "swept under the carpet" - it would appear that what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander here! "I borrowed them from a friend, but I can't give them back 'cos he's dead - anyway, I'd forgotten about them" (Even when I put one on my wrist this morning!) To repeat what others have said - "Absolutely disgraceful state of affairs". -

In the UK it's called an "each way bet". -

"Allows appointed judges and Immigration Officers maximum leeway to interpret things as may be convenient to them and their buddies at any particular moment." But in the case of Immigration Officers, there are some fairly straightforward guidelines laid down by the Chief Immigration Officer which some of them choose to ignore, or as you say interpret as may be convenient to them- depending on their particular mood that day!!! -

Pita ready to step aside if his party fails to win senators’ hearts

"a boycott helps no one." Boycotting Russian products doesn't help Ukraine? -

It was never alive - the outgoing Prime Minister saw to that with his own undemocratic amendments to the Constitution e.g. 250 Senators of his choosing, and his own undemocratic route to becoming Prime Minister in the first place!!! -
I can't imagine any "heroine" being interested in anything that the old guard have to offer except BBBBBBaht! As for a Minister in Charge of Efficiency who better than someone who has changed his name after serving 4 years for a drug conviction? i.e.:- "Manat Bophlom, now known as Thamanat Prompow, was convicted of conspiring to import heroin to Australia. The ruling was handed down on 31 March 1994" when he was sentenced to six years imprisonment. " With a Prime Minister who fails to declare his assets although legally bound to do so, and falls asleep asleep on the job, and a convicted drug felon in charge of "Efficiency" what could possibly go wrong? ???? "Even More Amazing Thailand"!!!

Move Forward Party’s Thai PM Candidate Pita Fails First Round of Voting
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"Disgusting really!" REALLY disgusting! That the military junta/Government can change the Constitution to install 250 of their hand picked cronies as Senators to decide the present and future of the Thai people. Democracy? - Disgusting facade, and it's just a pity that the World's business "partners" don't make it more clear in any trade negotiations as IMHO that would appear to be the only way to change things - the threat of losing TRILLIONS of baht in lost trade deals would make "them" a bit "twitchy"!
