Any news on the A-O visa front?
jimn replied to bokningar's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Of course it was. But its also why people do not get the correct advice. People commonly refer to Visa exempt entry as Visa on Arrival, Extension of stay based on Retirement as Retirement Visa are prime examples -
Loan Sharks are making a large profit across Thailand
jimn replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My wife was telling me that her Aunt had to take out a quick loan for 100k baht and she is payinh 10k a month. I said thats not to bad she will soon pay that off. That was until she told me that its 10k a month without paying back any of the 100k. So basically she pays 10k a month until she pays back the 100k in one lump sum. Thats criminal. -

No expiry dates on beer bottles in Thailand only fill dates. In any case its not an issue, bars have been open for months now. -
Night Venues Warned to Follow Prevention Measures After Reopening
jimn replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Nonsense, since when has that been happening. Pattaya bars and gogo's have been fully open for at least 6 weeks with full drinking from bottles and glasses. Drinking from a coffee mug was at least 6 months ago. There is even topless dancing now in some gogo's. -
Dont complicate the issue. This is Thailand. Many people have moved away to different locations. Many children have found work and their parents need them to continue working. Many will have got pregnant and now have a baby. Many reasons.

Returning from the UK on Non "O" Visa
jimn replied to falang1969's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You seem to have the answers you need. Just a word to the wise. Is your wife Thai and will she be applying for a UK Standard Family Visit Visa. If so be aware that there is a very long wait to get a visa at the moment, due to increased travelling, The Ukraine crisis and low staff levels. They are qoting a minimum of 6 weeks and my wife who is a member of a Thai facebook group has heard about people waiting much longer. -
Best 6 month visa option. Im 56 years old
jimn replied to nomad2019's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You couldnt be further from the truth pal. Why should I put 800k in a Thai bank if I dont want too and dont need to. I am not abusing the system, I am using the system which is accepted by Thai immigration everywhere and I have an extension that is as good as one that you have. Its not FAKE, its genuine. I could write pages on why I do it like this but I will let you wallow on trying to get by on the 65k a month you mentioned. I will just spend my time and money when and where I choose, which contrary to your assumption I have the money to live 2 lives both in and outside Thailand in both my properties which are bought and paid for unlike you in your rented room or flea pit where ever that may be. -
Best 6 month visa option. Im 56 years old
jimn replied to nomad2019's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I do similar to you 7.5 months in Thailand and 4.5 months in the UK. I am lucky not to have to work in the UK, just see my family and friends. I too do not put any money in a Thai bank nor do I have any intention of doing so. I am based in the Jomtien immigration area and simply use an agent to get my genuine official extension of stay based on Retirement, based on my original O visa. Cost 12,900. The best option by a mile. -
Its a Pattaya only election and only dry in Pattaya not Bangkok as far as I am aware

Cancel OA, enter on visa on arrival, start again?

Ok fair comment, based on your superior knowledge on these matters I will not contest the point. It would be interesting to know what happens in reality not the rule. -
Cancel OA, enter on visa on arrival, start again?
jimn replied to oznomad's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Hold on a minuite. The way I read the OP is that when he returns to Thailand his OA insurance will have finished? Thats why he is looking for 2 months insurance and then take out a new 12 month OA insurance when he renews his extension of stay? Correct me if I am wrong. When he arrives he will have no OA insurance so he will not be stamped in to the expiry date of his stamp, so all he will get is a 30 day visa exempt entry and his OA is cancelled. -
60 Day extension for Covid reasons
jimn replied to Lotusflower6's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Are you sure he didnt mean next time do your 90 days. ie 90 day report for staying in Thailand 90 days. As said there is no 90 day extension other than obtaining a non O and then an extension of stay on retirement or marriage. -
Reporting to Immigration after return to Thailand
jimn replied to Jen65's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You have been given the answer why do you have to ask the office. I also use Chonburi I have left the country and returned every year during the pandemic, I have obtained 2 retirement extensions and 2 re entry permit. It was not mentioned at all. Its not required, dont stress yourself out about it. -

Non O/A VIsa- Insurance from UK?
jimn replied to funkykyle's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Dont do it. Many people regret the OA option and change to O visa because of the continued insurance burden every year. O visa has no insurance associated with it, but you will need 800k in Thai bank or an income of 65k per month transferred into Thailand from abroad if you intended to apply for a 12 month extension of stay once in Thailand. There are qualifying periods for the money that I cant quote of hand at the moment. If you dont mind the continued insurance of an OA then its a good option to get 2 years out of the visa. You get stamped in for 12 months every time you enter Thailand, assuming you have valid OA insurance. If you leave and re enter Thailand just before the visa expires you will still get a 12 month stamp, again insurance has to be valid. A re entry permit is required to keep the permission to stay stamp valid after the visa expires. -
