  1. Whatever became of the 'Big Bike License' that the government and DLT were banging on about a few years back? That was supposed to put an end to folks going out and buying these poweful machines and taking off without any training or experience. So sad that not only could the father not control his impatient urge to get out there and 'test' his new toy, he had to show off to his son as well. What a mentality!
  2. Yes and the most important one is 'don't preach!'
  3. Oh and I forgot. It's great for reading my e-books on. But phone calls? Na!
  4. A phone. Isn't that the thing I use for banking and paying for goods and services with? Oh and playing Sudoku on.
  5. As far as I know, other than me tentatively testing the system, the ABS on my Aerox has only been activated once in 4 years when an old dear on a motorcycle plus trailer swung into a u turn on a narrow lane right in front of me. There is no doubt in my mind that without ABS I would have either ploughed straight into her, or dropped my own bike. Once was enough to convince me of its value. ABS on a motorcycle is akin to the ejector seat in a jet fighter. You may only ever need it once, but when you do, you will really, really need it. It's little wonder that many countries are now making it a mandatory fit on all new motorcycles. Are you paying attention @Bangkok Black?
  6. People from Lao do not need a visa to enter Thailand for stays of less than 60 days.
  7. It doesn't seem to occur to you that the Russians that are here in Thailand are NOT the ones fighting in Ukraine. I don't think they need your childish assistance to see the 'error of they ways'.
  8. I am highly suspicious of this email and certainly won't be responding to it, should I receive it. How many time have we all read messages from our banks, words to this affect: 'we will never ask you for confidential information by email'? Sorry, I meant to attach the link and forgot. See below. https://www.sumup.com/en-gb/invoices/dictionary/unique-taxpayer-reference/
  9. Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) actually and here's a note regarding that number: 'Like National Insurance numbers, UTR numbers are highly confidential, and there are only a few circumstances in which you should give your Unique Taxpayer Reference to someone other than HMRC'. So don't sticking on any forms. And BTW I am a British citizen and a K bank customer who has not received this e mail (as yet)
  10. Kanolone oral paste is very effective against mouth ulcers.
  11. Well it's up to you. I've already made my thoughts clear on that issue. Here's an interesting comment from The Nation: 'From 2024, motorcycle ABS will be mandatory in Thailand for all new models over 125 cc. - Roughly 25 percent of accidents involving motorized two-wheelers could be prevented by motorcycle ABS'. The full article makes for interesting reading. the link is below. Keep safe out there. https://www.nationthailand.com/pr-news/business/40004141
  12. Poor sleep can certainly have a debilitating affect on ones overall health. Poor sleep and anxiety can become a vicious cycle that seem to feed off each other. But I'm in agreement with you regarding medication. I've always resisted the the use of of medication, much preferring natural self help methods. Here's one that you might like to try. Seek out "Box Breathing" on Youtube. There are plenty of references. It's so effective that it's even taught to Navy Seals to help them get some instant 'shut eye'. . I use this simple method for getting back to sleep after having to visit the bathroom during the night. It can also be practiced any time of day or night to help you to control anxiety. Seek out 'Non Sleep Deep Relaxation' (NSDR) which builds on the is technique. I also agree with @Airalee's comment above. I like Wim Hoff's methods.
  13. I also first heard about it on AN (or was it TVF back then?) It came up in an article in the Thai Enquirer which included the sentence: 'Also exempt will be those who have been taxed in a foreign country that has a standing Double Tax Agreement with Thailand'. This was dismissed by the afore said as ML not being an official statement and so the rumour perpetuated. In the 14 months since that was published, I haven't read one single article that contradicts that sentence, so AFAIC the taxing of us pensioners is still an unsubstantiated rumour. I agree with with earlier posters such as @Jingthing. Stay well away from TRD offices and tax advisers who are seeking to plunder your hard earned retirement pots. Thai Enquirer September 18, 2023
  14. I'm waiting, with baited breath to hear how many others are rushing to TRD offices around the country. This taxation business came up, for the very first time on a local forum up here in NE Issan last week. Nobody knew anything about it! So I'm guessing there won't be a stampede around here.
  15. I would be asking serious questions about who 'this guy' is and how professional and reliable is the repair. I have an Aerox with ABS. I've had it for 4 years, however I've only had to use the brakes full on in dire emergency once. And there's no doubt in my mind that ABS saved my skin that day. No other bike I've ever ridden would have stopped as quickly and as safely as my Aerox did. If my ABS went on the blink, I'd get it fixed using genuine parts at my local Yamaha dealer. No ifs, no buts!
  16. It's certainly true that there a a lot more motorcycle deaths than any others on Thailand's roads. But at least when a motorcyclist looses it they usually only take themselves out and maybe a pillion. Not themselves and six others!
  17. The damage we see here is more consistent with the vehicle flipping or rolling, rather than speed alone. Although to be fair speed is a factor in all traffic accidents. I suspect that the roof was removed post accident in order to remove the victims. What a gruesome job that must have been.
  18. Then they're not 'staying' in the country are they.
  19. All motorists are required to observe speed limits. That does mean they all do so!
  20. The only reason for keeping the 'receipt' in your passport is to remind you when the next report is due. When using the on line system they will send you a reminder by email 15 days before it is due. Keeping a copy in your passport is totally unnecessary.
  21. ALL foreigners staying the kingdom are required to do 90 day reports.
  22. Japan does not have porous land borders with 4 neighboring countries to contend with.
