  1. Plus the fact that the flight was BKK bound anyway. If BKK were able offer a straight in approach, no deviation from route was required and everybody ended up where they should have been, saving one god almighty logistics problem.
  2. If a charge is made for an 'over the counter' service you will be informed about at the time and given a receipt. If the 100 baht was not mentioned to you at the time, then you've got it confused with some other charge or payment. We all do it on occasions as I've mentioned earlier.
  3. It's more likely it was an annual fee for your account or card that just happened to coincide with the day you updated the book. I was caught out thinking that I'd been charged 100 Baht for using an ATM out of province. No, I was wrong. It was the annual card fee that was deducted on the same day.
  4. As has just been pointed out above: Are you suggesting that all Canadians citizens are honest?
  5. AI Overview Key points about QR code payments in Thailand: No transaction fees: Most banks in Thailand, including Krungthai Bank, Bangkok Bank, and Siam Commercial Bank, do not charge a fee for using QR code payments. Cross-border payments: You can also use QR codes to make cross-border payments to other ASEAN countries without incurring additional fees. So what are you banging on about @smedly in your (off topic) post?
  6. Ok, well stay here and just send your whinging!
  7. Dementia sufferers generally need care 'in place' rather than hospital treatment. I rather think there are more options here in Thailand than there are in the UK where there are issues with cash, staff and facilities. Read Sheryl's comments earlier in this thread.
  8. Well why are you here, not there? Go and take your whinging with you.
  9. I hope that they include in that investigation the fact that the lorry had an overhang load with no protective rails to prevent a vehicle from 'nose diving' under the rear. It can also obscure the view of the rear lights. It is such a common practice here and makes a rear end shunt like this so much more dangerous.
  10. Pakistan would have been their next country had they made through Iran. There's no other route. Their 'home' was, apparently Andalusia, Spain, Pakistan couldn't be more different!
  11. An AI overview: 'Yes, different skin types do require different razor blades, as some blades are designed specifically for sensitive skin, while others are better suited for thicker hair or a closer shave, meaning you should choose a blade based on your individual skin needs to minimize irritation and achieve a comfortable shave'. Watsons 5 System Razor works just fine for me. Each to his own. (skin)
  12. Well folks, it would appear that this not just a rumour. (I wish the O/P had been a little clearer!) From the Pattaya Mail: 'Well-connected and popular agencies, such as Tik Tok based in Jomtien, have advised on social media that they will be unable to assist with opening bank accounts for foreign customers until further notice'. (Link to the full article below) https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/news/foreign-applicants-for-thai-bank-accounts-facing-new-crackdown-490881 Please don't have a go at me, I'm just the messenger with no vested interest in this topic.
  13. Just to make a point on that Sheryl, the BBC have run a couple of series' called 'reported missing'. Many of the subjects that they have had to make searches for were dementia suffers who had simply wandered away from home, maybe to take a walk in the park or something and couldn't find their way home again. Some ended up many miles away from their starting point! My own mother was in a care home, which was exclusively for dementia sufferers. On a cold winter's night she got out of bed, went out through a fire door, (which for safety reasons could not be locked of course) and was found, frozen to death in the snow the following morning. So I've had a particular interest in this issue. Sending a dementia sufferer half way round the world, escorted or not, without very solid action plan at the other end is just of the question.
  14. So he's not an imminent professor then, he's an eminent professor. 😉
  15. He's an imminent professor is he? Perhaps he'd better hold fire until he's qualified!
  16. Don't bother yourself. It will still be the same unmitigated crap!
  17. No they don't
  18. Go visit Watsons and check out their own brand '5 System Razor'. Similar to Gillette, but cheaper. They often 2 for 1 sales as well. I've been using them for a few years now. https://www.watsons.co.th/en/watsons-men-5-system-razor-1-handle-2-cartridges./p/BP_307927
  19. That's what it says on the tin. But I very much doubt whether these issues will be a hinderance when two sensible people. one from the UK consular service and one a ranking immigration officer sit down and have a chat about this serious humanitarian situation. I shall interested to hear what the outcome is of this distressing case.
  20. It DOES apply in the UK. You can only refuse if you have a genuine physical or mental condition stopping you from giving a sample. (in which case you probably shouldn't be driving anyway)
  21. They would say that wouldn't they. They fear that the 'golden goose' is going to be killed off before it even start to lay eggs!
  22. You clearly don't know the UK very well. My suggestions to the O/P come directly from one whose mother froze to death in the snow due to the carelessness of a very uncaring care home in the UK. It's just one of a number of reasons why I'm in this country, not back there!
  23. And then what? Welcomed with open arms by his 86 year old sister and/or his 83 year old niece? It's a ludicrous idea. This is a 'must do' @Furioso and quickly. You mentioned that his passport expires soon. Is this idea of getting him on a plane some scatter brained idea by his pals to get him out of the country before it does so? This case must be brought to the attention of the embassy. They will probably need some evidence regarding his medical/mental condition. They should be able to bring this case before the immigration bureau to have a temporary (at least) extension of stay on medical/humanitarian grounds, whilst this whole sorry mess is sorted out. And then I suggest that the idea of getting him into a care home here in Thailand be looked into.
  24. From my own perspective, having been away from the UK for over 20 years and being almost 80, the thought of being sent back there, in my dotage horrifies me! There has to be a better solution than sticking this poor old guy on a Heathrow bound flight to a totally uncertain future. And there is one. Watch the video in the attached link. This solution has to be a better way. https://www.aljazeera.com/program/101-east/2020/5/1/thailands-last-resort
  25. I just completed this quiz. My Score 50/100 My Time 169 seconds
