  1. Over 40 years I have moved from a work permit to non-immigrant status, in latter case with extensions initially based in marriage, later changed to retirement because less hassle involved. Never used an agent, and never had any problem whatsoever. Reading some of the above postings I appear to have been lucky to have had such an easy time, and I fear things are now getting tougher. Would be interested to know if others feel things are becoming more difficult at immigration offices generally, or just at certain specific locations.
  2. Fake news or not, the fact is Thailand now dances to Beijing's tune. The USA has much to do to counteract the worldwide Chinese takeover. If I were Thai, which I am not, I would welcome an increased US presence here.
  3. Hardly a 'group', but sinister. There doesn't seem to be much point in holding elections if people like this can overturn the result.
  4. Wrong. An arrest warrant issued by The Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan is recognized internationally. Likewise, an arrest warrant issued by The Peoples' Republic of China (PRC) on mainland China is also internationally recognized.
  5. Pita appears well-educated and honest. No chance of becoming PM then.
  6. The result of an election should determine which party will form the next government. But not in Thailand....
  7. Sad, but inevitable. The Thai establishment and military will utilize any pretext to prevent Pita/MF taking office. Only a few Thai people will protest. Memories of the brutal 1973, 1976 and 1992 crackdowns are still fresh. Nothing much is going to change.
  8. You are rather missing the point of this forum. These are observations by foreigners as to how the democratic process could be improved in Thailand, if and when that is what the Thai people want.
  9. Typical statement on behalf of the Thai establishment. Unless and until the power of the senate ia greatly reduced elections will remain a waste of time and money.
  10. It is not clear what the future of cannabis use will be in Thailand following today's election. The fact is that weed is easily available in several ASEAN countries, whether decriminalised or not.
  11. While it is sad that these dogs were killed so brutally it should always be remembered that millions of animals are being cruelly slaughtered every day, all over the world, so that their flesh and body parts can be eaten by humans.

  15. China's grip on Thailand is getting firmer every day. It can only be hoped that the Thais middle-of-the-road approach to international relations, which has mostly served it well over the years, will be maintained.
  16. Sadly millions of talented Thais over many generations have been denied the chance to realise their potential. I fear this will not change any time soon.
  17. Really ? I don't think so. We've seen predictions of change many times before but it never happens.
  18. The reason so many products in Thailand are over-priced is the high level of tea money that businesses pay to officials.
  19. Very unlikely the government will accept losing the election. Disturbances will occur, and the military will stage yet another coup 'to restore law and order'.
  20. Hopefully whoever comes out on top in the forthcoming election will keep a middle road between Western and Chinese influence, unlike the current Thai government which appears to be run by Peking.
  21. Over 70 million Americans voted for Trump in the last US election. You'd never think so reading these postings....
  22. Still on Win7 on an old Samsung laptop with no problems !
