  1. Correct. The elite are in the business of forever buying property etc abroad. They keep the Baht at the highest rate possible to facilitate this, often defying the trend in international markets. Every so often they get badly caught out, eg 1997/8.
  2. The Thai police will likely get nowhere with this. They are very nervous when dealing with Russians.
  3. The system is that, when you've made enough, you get out to let the next lot in the queue/line take their turn. If you're too greedy, and hang about for too long, you'll get trouble.
  4. '..bagged and readied for its return to nature..' No chance. Pure BS
  5. The Thai police arrested a 56 years old woman who possessed 1 cannabis plant exhibiting, as usual, their astonishing bravery, competence and intelligence.
  6. Been mugged in Manila which was not a good experience. Thailand is safer, cleaner, more interesting and more fun.
  7. Not at all. Simply, in words you may be able to understand, it will take time to fully audit the outcome of the various vaccination programmes. Have a nice day.
  8. The girl "will be back at school by the end of the week". Can't have been that bad then, and I wonder if we are getting the true story. However dog, cat and animal haters generally are having their say.
  9. Impossible to get un-biased info on the vaccines. I've had 2 AZ and 1 Pfizer. No reaction following the jabs apart from feeling a bit knackered but that's hardly abnormal for an old git like myself. There are, however, disturbing reports of some people experiencing fading, and some suffering extreme reactions post-vaccination.
  10. You make a good point. The disillusionment many young Thais today feel when they realize, through the internet, that they've been brought up on BS and lies is very strong.
  11. It was once the case that Thais, and East Asian people generally, were smaller than westerners, but less so these days. A visit to an old Thai house will reveal less headroom in doorways etc.
  12. Not surprising given that you were switching from Marriage to Retirement. Just give her what she asked for.
  13. There are puritanical elements in Thailand who want to kill the nightlife here. Thankfully they appear to be losing, given that many bars and nightclubs are open already.
  14. The laws anywhere are intended to control the poor, not only in Thailand. Just look at the profile of any prison population in any country. Anyway, you got your extension sorted in the end, while skating on thin ice, and well done for that.
  15. Disappointing but not surprising. As long ago as 1985 I was a member of a UK delegation from Taiwan to the UK parliament on this issue. Same answer then as we have now. Now we have back the right to participate in UK elections it's surprising that not one of the main UK parties has not yet spotted there could be extra votes for them if they supported this petition.
  16. I've been mugged twice in my life, once in Manila, once in South London. No such experiences in 40 years in Thailand.
  17. We have homes in Bangkok and Rayong. I would continue to retain both in the very sad event of my wife's death.
  18. There are appalling deaths everywhere, including the UK where very young children have been horribly murdered. Recent information indicates that the UK police are solving less than 5% of reported crimes.
  19. it would be good to see the nightlife opening up. Will that ever happen I wonder ?
  20. After nearly 40 years residing mainly in Thailand it is still the first choice for me compared to all the other countries where I have ived and worked. I am always puzzled by the many people on this forum who find so much to criticise about life here.
