The oil slick is the problem. It is heading east towards Samet and coastal beaches.

If this does reach Samet in force the consequeces could be a disaster for all aspects of life on the island. Hopefully the slick will divert due to tidal movement. Not much can be done by the authorities to control the direction of the spill.

Recently went through this process via VFS/Thai Immigration with no hassle. Applied for new UK passport 9 months prior to current passport's expiry. The key is to apply personally, well in advance. You appear to have left things very late and to be using an agent, neither of which is a good idea for passport renewal.
