  1. Given the latest polls you will have to wait a while for this to happen, if ever...
  2. Corrupt and lying pot calling the kettle black..
  3. Back in the mid to early 1960s American soldiers, well-behaved and polite, began to arrive in Pattaya, and in Bangkok and some other cities. They joined the well-to-do foreigners who were resident or visiting, and who could afford the costs involved in travelling to Thailand. Then cheap flights emerged, and everything changed. Shabby, I'll mannered foreigners began to arrive in great numbers. The older foreigners, who were already in the country. wanted nothing to do with them. To this day that still applies, and not only in Pattaya.
  4. I repeat, it was foreign (American) lawyers who suggested to the Thai authorities that taxing remissions from abroad would help to reduce the Thai govt's deficit.
  5. Further, and slightly contradictory, it is foreign tax lawyers who have tried to sell the idea, to the Thai authorities, of taxing remissions from abroad. They are, basically. grubbing around for business. They are not on the side of those of us who live in Thailand. Never forget that.
  6. Thank you for this sensible and balanced advice. Way too much uninformed noise and chatter on this subject.
  7. My bookmakers are still forecasting a Trump win. This was not their position immediately after Harris was nominated when odds for Trump were 2 to 3-1 against. Bookies are not always right, of course, but they usually are otherwise they wouldn't be in business.
  8. I refer to your comment that you 'don't encounter these kinds of people'. Is this a reference to Clinton's 'deplorables' ?
  9. Rather pathetic bringing Trump into this.
  10. I wonder how many of Earth's people realise that their planet will eventually be destroyed by the Sun. For the human race to survive it will be necessary for huge numbers to have found another place to live long before that happens.
  11. There are far too many people based in temples who should never have been allowed to join the monkhood.
  12. Personally I follow elections in the USA closely. As a Brit born in the early days of WW2 I value a friendly relationship with America. As a result I have been disturbed by Biden's antipathy towards the UK which is why I am following the Harris/Trump with interest.
  13. Good point. The one in the pic is not used any more, since the kids grew up.
  14. The view from the balcony of our house in Rayong. Personally, if I had to choose between a quiet room or a room with a view, I would take the room a view. Restful and calming even if there is noise outside.
  15. Entirely wrong. The islands, which are over 2000 Kms distance from Mauritius, belong to the Chagossians. Mauritius laid claim to them, under Chinese influence, following independence in 1968.
  16. Brits need to wake up. They are being betrayed from within.
  17. An American friend who worked on a security detail at Mar a Lago told me Trump has a great sense of humour.
  18. I reckon India would just about beat Thailand in a contest for which of the two is the most accomplished litterer.
  19. My wife likewise, and me also. I recently, foolishly, gave the number of a bank card to a very legitimate-sounding caller, only to wake up and realize I was being scammed. Of course I immediately cancelled the card. Scammers are becoming highly sophisticated and clever. Caution needed at all times.
  20. Some will say 'how sweet', others 'pass the vomit bucket'.
  21. 'Could be partially responsible....no explicit order'. In other words, not guilty.
  22. Musk has not become the richest person in the world by accident. He is a businessman through and through. His strategies throughout his career to date have been highly successful, to put it mildly. Worth paying attention to who he supports, and why.
