  1. Most countries have nightlife entertainment in one form or another, some highly discreet, some less so. I would guess that about 25% plus of visitors enjoy at least a meal out and a drink or two in the evening, while maybe about 10% plus proceed thereafter to sample more exotic activities.
  2. Lived and worked in UK, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan. Extended work visits to many others. Loved Thailand and Taiwan.
  3. This is just lip service to the idea that those governing Thailand want to attract more foreigners, rich or not so rich. They don't. They do not want outsiders seeing what goes on here. It goes back to events following the end of WW2.
  4. Travelled to Thailand in the '60s and 70's, worked here in the 80's, married my Thai wife in 1990, retired to live here in 1993. Now 80 years old and still happily married to my Thai wife, and very much enjoying being in Thailand.
  5. I've lived and worked on 4 continents. To this day, for me, Thailand is by far and away the best place to be. Minimal hassle and friendly people. Never used an agent for extensions and have always found the process simple and straightforward. Anyway, I wish you well, and hope things turn out well for you.
  6. If anyone, of any age, has no money in Thailand best to get out fast in any way you can. It's got nothing to do with being old.
  7. Over the years snotty elite Thai killjoys have tried to change the character of Thai nightlife/entertainment. They have always failed, and I suspect they will fail again even with the dictatorial powers that they have adopted as a result of covid.
  8. Went back to the UK 5 years ago intending to stay for a month. Left after 2 weeks. So sad to see what the UK has become. I prefer to remember it as it once was.
  9. Complicated entry requirements, entertainment venues closed. Hardly surprising people don't want to come to Thailand. Maybe the Thai govt doesn't really want foreigners around ?
  10. I don't think many tourists will be arriving while these nonsense rules are in force.
  11. I'm the same age as yourself. I have found living day by day, rather than worrying about what our limited future holds, is helpful. Not easy to do, but worth a try if that is part of your problem. If not, I would recommend exercise, especially swimming.
  12. Best of luck with that. The only country in which I have been mugged, twice.
  13. Very enjoyable piece Rooster. Rings a lot of bells. For myself, aged 80 and still happily married to a Thai lady for over 30 years, Thailand is better than anywhere else I've been. Taiwan runs it close though.
  14. Bless you for your kindness. Having done so much to restore his health I can't believe you would put him back on the beach. I just hope a better solution can be found. ATB.
  15. I find it hard to believe Thailand's nightlife will be gone forever. It will take time, but it will return.
  16. Great news for those being encouraged by the government to holiday here. Were I not living here permanently there's no way I would visit until all the bars etc are opened.
