Hotels struggle to attract quality staff as tourism recovers
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hotel managers and supermarket managers in Thailand think its their job to sit in an office and dress nice. They feel it is beneath their status to involve themselves in the mundane aspects of their job! -

A friend of mine, now an elderly Thai lady that had three restaurants in Northern England said that to me a long time ago. She hailed from Korat and said ' The problem with most Thais in the labour force, is that they have no work ethic ' Those were her exact words. -

Are you suggesting a 7 day working week? ???? -
Tell your ' friend ' to come up with a suitable suggestion that is convenient for you both. Threatening you with police, which won't do any good, over 1500 baht? You need to re evaluate your friendship!

Both of which are in short supply over here!

Not as much as the humiliation to us if they clean us out of funds in some scam!

Cambodian staff in three and four star hotels blow Thais out of the water for friendliness, information, English skills, manners and a genuine wish to assist you as a tourist. -
Not joking, The English guy sounds like the one who called me. British with London accent. Very animated and high pressure sales pitch and constantly calling me by my first name as though we went to school together.

Trending on you tube right now by an American who knows him, this guy has a massive history of ' recreational drugs and alcohol abuse ' and apparently was well known for it, amongst his circle of friends. Apparently this took place in house owned by another friend, not the deceased, who isn't in Thailand at the moment.

Sorry, my computer seems to be getting bombarded with ads etc all over the place on this site and then when I try to clear them, it posts my uncompleted thread.

This last few months I have had a number of calls to my personal phone number offering me various services from offshore investments, share scams ( boiler room call centres ), many of these clowns even address me by my given name and say I had requested information on investments, which I haven't. I believe that just to be a ' ruse ' to start the conversation. These calls have not come from Thai people except one which I will get to in a moment. They have come from Filipino speaking staff at call centres and English guys offering ' a special stock offering that has just come about all of a sudden and I need to get in quick ' At my age, not only am I not interested, I am bloody annoyed and the persistence of these people who won't take no for an answer. I find the only way is to put the phone down and be quite blunt and rude to them which I am not happy doing to people, but they push my buttons, as I know these are scam investments, many of which succeed with the gullible and trusting. A recent one came from Thais claiming to be working at the Post Office and stating a suspicious package had been intercepted at Pattaya Post office addressed to be and I needed to come and sort it out. I haven't been to Pattaya in 15 years, so I knew it wasn't myself or anything that I had ordered. I told them straight, they were not the Post office and if they had anything regarding suspicious packages not to call me, to call the Police and I certainly would not be going down to Pattaya to sort anything out. They then suggested this matter could be ' cleared up amicably ' for ' a fee ' and they were indeed the Post office! I declined asking them to give a name and number and their position in the Post office and I would refer the matter to Kalasin police. They hung up! ' Be careful out there people, scams are on the rise '

I've had calls in Thailand with guys introducing themselves and cold calling me by my first name offering everything from share deals to offshore investments. These have come from call centres and direct individuals. Obviously somebody has shared this information online as we all know, there is money to be made selling peoples personal information. I think some of this is when I have inquired online about health insurance etc is how this information has been shared, I certainly don't give it out over the phone. I just tell them at 60 years old I will look after my own affairs and not to call again and then I simply hang up

I know both a policeman { low ranking} who was thrown out and continued using his Police ID and I also know a young soldier who also was drummed out that continued wearing his Army uniform around the village. Everybody knew he was no longer a soldier and in typical Thai fashion, they just ignored the issue.

Palang Pracharath Earns 510 Million Baht At Fundraising Event
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He could always sell his ' borrowed ' watch collection to top up the funds! The guy can hardly walk unaided let alone govern a country with his stupid ' military mentality ' He has been in Prayuth's shadow all these years, agreeing on policies, so what new policies will come from this Laurel and Hardy duo? -
Palang Pracharath Earns 510 Million Baht At Fundraising Event
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well said, but nothing will change. I would sooner eat 50 baht of noodles with hard working people than fancy meals with these scum. And I mean it. 75,000 GBP a table?.......... Mental. Probably keeping a record as well of which ' pigs at the trough ' donate further sums for their future personal prosperity at the country's expense. -
I thought Thaksin was lousy and a liar as well as being corrupt as hell and led a party filled with cronyism. Same sentence applies to the current government in power.

Ukraine: Boris Johnson says Putin threatened him with missile strike
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in World News
It wouldn't take a minute? It wouldn't take a minute for the UK directly as well as NATO forces to respond in kind. Putin has massively misjudged NATO allies response after his ' easy ' annexation of the Crimea. His armed forces have been shown for what they are, outdated, poorly equipped and poorly trained. -
Maybe more people seeking extensions of stay! Just a wild guess!

Western Brands Cut Quality For Thai market
Scouse123 replied to Brewster67's topic in General Topics
I have long suspected a lot of the imported gear that comes in from China to be substantially poorer quality and cheaper grade than what the Chinese send to Western countries. I put it down to lack of quality control by Thailand. On the tea subject, I buy boxes when I am in the UK and bring it over. -
I was told years and years ago it was popular amongst field workers, money was tight and they didn't want to lose the bit they had when they were bent down pulling the rice. Lack of pockets or holes in pockets was alleged to have played a part. When they migrated to the cities it continued out of habit.
