Only IF the Op was considered at fault - in this case it seems the Motorcyclist was considered at fault and the Op is wondering why it cost him 500 baht to have his vehicle inspected. I recall being charged a 500b ‘admin’ fee after an accident and we ended up at the police station. I was told that was the standard charge for ‘being involved in an accident’ even though the decision was considered 50/50. Police charging for doing their job - astonishing.... well not really. I can see their entitlement, they’ve seen the 10,000 baht and thought it a nice earner. Had there not been a reward they would not have done their job !!... typical of Thai police.

erm... thats not what an exclamation mark means...

Another Liverpool Lou special.... not addressing the subject of the thread, instead choosing to play wannabe lawyer and pick holes in harmless comments made by those contributing to the value of a thread. Another take on jospehbloggs comment: - I used to go at least once a month. - I’ve been here 27 years at one point I worked 100m from there and ate there several times per week. --------- I also used eat there [at Ton Krueng] regularly on average at least once per-month, but also at some intervals I’ve eaten there several times per month.

The old one was much better... IMO.. the new one a little more awkward to get to, less character.... Its still a good place to take guests....

HYDROGEN cars are here ! - Hyundai

The average car drives 13,500 miles (21,700 km per year) = roughly 1800 km per month. The average EV consumes 0.2kWh/km (source for that info below). Thus: per month an Average EV consumes 360kwh. As you mentioned: household consumption of 1,000 kWh per month... thus the average EV adds 36% to the average household. I know figures will vary... this seems more than a tiny fraction.... https://www.virta.global/blog/ev-charging-101-how-much-electricity-does-an-electric-car-use -
Does it gets boring in Koh Phangan, Samui?
richard_smith237 replied to parafareno's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
In ‘these’ areas there is perhaps an issue where the ‘genuine good girls’ (for want of a better description) avoid foreigners because they may be of the impression that foreigners are there only for the women.... I suspect this just makes life a little more difficult when trying to develop a genuine relationship..... .... Whereas in areas such as Bangkok it's far easier to be considered a regular member of society so that ‘stigma barrier’ does not need to be broken down.... -
Note: You’ll need to have the 5 year DL (not the 2 year temp DL)...

We can all cherry pick our arguments...... It could be argued that the average foreigner has paid more tax in VAT than the average Thai does in income tax. I have certainly paid more income tax here than the average Thai. I have certain paid more VAT tax here than the average Thai. A foreigner working here for years will have paid more income tax here than the average Thai. The ’tax’ argument does not work. It does not work when someone attempts to justify dual-pricing, it does not work when someone is refused medication based on nationality alone.
-
So you wanted to use tax as an argument, but cherry-pick the tax retirees won’t pay to mould your argument to fit your bias ???.... the tax argument is utterly irrelevant anyway... You are clutching at straws using unrelated and flawed arguments to continue to excuse the inexcusable.... The fact that the foreigner was paying for this treatment eliminates any tax argument.

I do.... The ‘energy companies’ will find a way to make their money. The government will find a way to recover the tax revenue lost from sales of petrol. There will be a requirement for improvement to the electrical infrastructure, those costs will be passed onto the customer. I’m under no illusion that the current cost of charging of EV’s will remain the same... I fully expect that the in the future cost of charging and running an EV will be similar to that of running a car on Petrol. -
I'm not sure we can blame AN which just regurgitates news from other sources... ... The media in Thailand itself seems uninterested in ‘actual journalism’.... it wants the outrage, the gasp, shock, horror, the clicks, the sensationalism.... the actual story seems to matter little.... Is it laziness ?... is it because following up on a story takes time and effort where the story just doesn’t fall into the lap of someone sat at a desk ?... As Mac wrote - there was that story last year (Westerner kills Thai intruder), there have been a number of stories which have generated great debate and interest, then nothing...

How about you giving him some advice, rather than you just getting on my case ? Twice now I have answered his questions and you haven't tried to answer once , yet twice you been critical of my answers now Oh no… your advice really was serious ?……. I was just messing about busting yer balls…. On this forum I’ve read comments in the past of the guys who mention their perv on 7-11 girls…. Figured no one really was that flooked up to think hitting on staff at a convenience store shows ‘game’….. I didn’t realise it was actually a thing….. what’s the issue with Swensens ? Too much brain freeze ? -

Scooter Rental in Patong for 4 days - any recommendations?
richard_smith237 replied to bbi1's topic in Phuket
If you’re gonna ‘keep right’… yep !!!! Riding a motorcycle in areas like Phuket is not really dangerous IF….. the rider has ridden a motorcycle or scooter before, is not going to ride drunk, it’s going to ride carefully…. ….. that covers 95% of the silly stuff casing accidents for tourists…. -

Can anyone get a proper girlfriend in any of them ( Pattaya, Phuket, Samui ) ? Too much stigma involved ?….. girls think all guys think all girls are cheap, guys think all good girls think all guys are looking for cheap girls…. & somewhere in between they are both mostly right… unless they aren’t then they are spending effort to prove they are saints !!! ….. The situation is too abnormal unless you are comfortable with the stigma…. … of course, no generalisation is correct.. but if you want a proper girlfriend you have to first work out what that means…. -

Agreed.... EV’s are no more environmentally friendly than the ICE vehicles... Worse perhaps. But, they do move emissions from the built up area’s, but thats about all they do. Batteries are the issue of course. All EV’s will achieve is to increase the electricity bills everyone (even those without vehicles), then what ???.... more people will turn to natural gas to heat their homes !!!!! -
Zebra crossings - solution found in Iceland

Zebra crossings - solution found in Iceland
richard_smith237 replied to fvw53's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
No... That solution that they’ve ‘found’ in Iceland is not a solution at all... It’s just a novel way of painting a pedestrian crossing... The solution is actually education, training and law enforcement of sufficient effectiveness that people simply stop when they should.... -
That's still a far cry from immigration having the powers to deport someone because they ‘want to’... there is a legal process involved.... Thus, when people are suggesting that ‘immigration will just deport and blacklist the frenchman’ and it's up to the Immigration officer - they are wrong. Immigration do not have that level of discretion.
