  1. Brilliant... When they know you know how things work... they nearly always shrink... Best thing to do at a Police check-point: Interior lights on, open windows.... 99% guarantee of being waved straight through....
  2. I suspect so too... but worth the ask. ??? say what now ???.... retirement visa under the Elite Program ??..... The Thai Elite Program has nothing to do with Retirement Visas. I had both visa’s open at the same time (5 year S.E. Visa - Life long Thai Elite Member). I took work in Thailand, had to fly out and re-enter on Non-Imm B, secured work permit etc. The 5 yr S.E. Visa (Elite Visa) remained open. Only issue I had was when my work finished while I was overseas - I returned the day before my extension expired. Immigration wanted to stamp me in up to expiry of that extension, i.e. 1 day. I’d then have to fly out and back in again entering on my S.E. (Elite) Visa. I had to first argue with the desk Immigration officer at the Airport that no, stamp me in on my S.E. Visa. Then his supervisor who also wanted to stamp me in for 1 day. I pushed and escalated higher to the next level speaking with an officer senior enough to make an intelligent decision. I was stamped in on my S.E. Visa (90 days). The Elite Concierge won’t be able to answer that question, they handle pretty basic stuff, booking etc and have given me extremely poor and incorrect visa advice in the past (regarding renewals and entering under Emergency Decree early on - they didn’t know we couldn’t enter on Thai Elite initially). Thus: best option is to go and see them or write a clear and concise letter and ask that it is pushed to those who are sure of their answer.
  3. BTW: its not messages... its notifications.... You can adjust your settings and turn them off. ] [edit: just read chickenlegs already spotted that].
  4. A valid point... however... that angle has already been covered leaving the door open to a little light humour... I hope they find the drunk tourist... What’s the compensation these days for assault on walking street ??? 200,000 Baht ?? or is that only awarded to Thai’s who get their ar$e pinched ?
  5. Poor guy (Aussie Tony), he’s still out there looking for his girl who disappeared while he was taking a quick cat-nap in a bar !!!... ????
  6. A concern with an old bike would be that there is more to bring the bike up to speck to make it an enjoyable ride... It may work out more costly than a new bike as you find out with each new part you need another new part etc etc... Another option is a new Mountain bike which would cut a lot of hassle... https://www.decathlon.co.th/en/all-sports/cycling-13145?refinementList[tes_gender_en][0]=MEN'S&sortBy=th_pr_dosa_category_price_desc Decathlon will deliver.
  7. The longest I’ve ever gone is 10... It just gets too risky leaving it any longer than that.... We’re discussing message from the Wife, right? ????
  8. Do you know this for a fact ?? There are many memberships which permit a ‘hiatus’ due to circumstances. i.e. Wife takes out Gym membership for 12 months - we go to the UK for 3 months, she can pause the membership. It’s worth asking Thai Elite if they can do something similar. I don't hold much hope for the Op getting what he wants, but ultimately it comes down to a ‘decision maker’ who’ll agree or disagree - it just depends how 'service minded’ they want to be.
  9. I’m not sure exactly what parts you are looking for... However, Decathlon may be an option. Reasonably priced semi-decent gear... https://www.decathlon.co.th/th/search?query=bicycle gears&page=2
  10. Is it someone who creates a new gender pro-noun ? ????
  11. Where did you read that...............????.....................???? It begs a legal question about Thailand Criminal Code. Can parents be held accountable and legal responsible for the actions of their child (and until what age) ?
  12. Its just a discussion forum, *nothing more - never to be take seriously and its interesting to learn how others think.... The repetition evolves but I get your point, there is an ongoing thread about the Yellow Tabien Baan... same arguments getting re-hashed - thats just the way it is.... *Thats not quite true - the forum is also a valuable source of information for many and has helped me numerous times in the past.
  13. Are you incapable of compartmentalisation ???... if you have an issue it consumes you and occupies all your brain cells ???... that’s somewhat of a concern. I am perfectly able to have strong, firm and passionate opinions and leave them on the page... not to think about them until next time I open that page on that forum (compartmentalisation). It seems IF you had strong opinions about Thailand you’d have to leave a long time ago - Its quite sad that you can’t control your emotions more effectively.
  14. ... repetitively If things I didn't like occupied my brain cells that much, I'd left a long time ago. How many times, on vehicle accident thread, as if we need to read about every single one in the news, do people feel the need to repeat 'Thais can drive properly'. The same people repeating the same post.???? Though per capita, expats are worse, at least in the my helmet wearing observations. Well... to mirror your attitude.... IF you don’t like the such threads, don’t read 'em !!! It's a discussion forum... you’re really missing that part. Each issue is individual - I find it fascinating how people interpret different things from various reports and incidents, photos and videos... I like those discussions. I also find the opinions regarding how things can be improved interesting, as are discussion regarding the underlying reasons for such issues. ---- I sometimes think that those posters such as yourself who have expressed a ‘if you don’t like it go home’ opinion think that those of us who have expressed a negative opinion on specific issues in Thailand live our lives in a permanent state of complaint.... You are of course wrong... Forums such as these are simply a discussion outlet - thats all.
  15. Ford dealerships don’t have a great reputation in Thailand for service. As your vehicle is now outside of warranty it may be worth finding a Garage which deals with ford who may give it more dedicated attention. Either that, or take it back to the dealership and ‘be awkward’, ask to speak with the service manager - tell him of the issue, ask to take a mechanic on a test-drive to show him the issue. That said, ultimately, if the mechanics at the dealership are lazy and not interested in investigating its a difficult one. I had a similar issue with a Mazda - they didn’t really bother looking hard enough for a simple fault until we pulled strings and dealt with-someone higher up... we then received outstanding service and they found the fault !!! (broken engine mount).
  16. Absolutely agree.... But rarely are the parents ever held accountable, responsible or liable for the actions of their children. The absolute and utter ineffectively of law enforcement simply enables these behaviours such as young kids on motorcycles.
  17. You may have missed the point of a forum.... is designed for discussion and debate. We discuss things we like and don’t like.... There are issues here that I don’t like - the approach to road safety is one thing I despise here..... I don’t accept that, but I have to deal with it... and I will discuss it on this forum and with friends (Thai and Western). Disliking facets of Thailand or finding something objectionable does not me we should be on the next flight home.
  18. No I cannot see that happening. Passport only for farangs at Bangkok Bank. You can only open an account with one nothing else as a farang. And for every transaction a passport has to be up to date. I got refused tuther month cuz my account hadn't been updated to my new passport. No other form of identity permitted. Thats not my experience. I hold an account with BKK Bank. I used my Passport and Yellow Tabien Baan & Pink ID (as I didn’t have a work permit). Account was tied to 13 digit Pink ID number. Whenever I’ve been in the Bank Since - I only need my pink ID. ----------------- I’ve had the same issue when going into SCB (another account I hold) which I opened with PP and work permit two decades ago... I’ve had numerous passports since then (and the PP number has changed with each one)... If I haven't been to the Bank for a while my passport is different, but its something they resolved fairly quickly. ----------------- With all the different responses, I’m quite sure different banks and even different staffers in the same bank interpret their regulations differently.
  19. Fair enough, it would be great if it was that way for everyone, but as I wrote, you are in a small minority - you were lucky. What Bank and Branch ? (slightly off topic - but that might help others in the area if they want to open an account).
  20. In Thailand, there is no law until here is a law. In this case, a 13 year old riding a 1000cc motorcycle - its not illegal, until its illegal.... Yes.. thats somewhat cryptic - but what I mean by that is: He will be able to ride the motorcycle for the most part without any issues or hassles from the police until he kills someone or himself.. then it will be because he was riding illegally. A 13 year old on a 1 litre bike is perhaps one of the most stupid road abuses possible - statistically his life expectancy would be extremely low with a high probability of him not making it to his 20’s.
  21. Op if you want specific answers... help the forum help you. -Nationality / Visa type. -How long have you stayed here this stay (90 day report filed ?). -Hold a licence in your home country. -Province you are currently in. This information is required to tailor a response - as different Embassies may or may not issue an Affirmation of residence, it depends on your visa. Immigration may or may not issue a Certificate of Residence (depends on your location and if you have done a 90 day report).
  22. There’s a pinned topic on this..
  23. The Pink ID for migrant workers and for Expats with a Yellow Tabien ban are different systems - the cards look the same. The migrant worker card has slightly different information (it used to also have a bar code), it can be obtained without a Passport and sponsorship from an employer. On the other hand the Pink ID for Expats requires both a passport and house registration. The two are not the same: But, for some reason Neeraman really can’t stand the idea that foreigners have an Thailand issued ID card for foreigners, it seems to upset him - so he wants to throw as much dirt as possible... his best attempt so far it to suggest westerners with the card are the same status as migrant workers !!... its just a bit daft.
  24. Which documents were required ??... IF they allowed you to open your Bank Account with only a Passport then you are lucky and in the minority. Most people require more documentation when opening an account - the Yellow Tabien Baan services this purpose perfectly. Your statement is WRONG, it not a false benefit at all... Its one of the conveniences of having the Yellow Tabien Baan.
  25. BS. What are those 'daily transactions' you do that the bank seems to ignore? Banks are strict in Thailand with regards to procedure due to 'money laundering'. I cannot see your bank allowing you to skirt their security rules in not showing your passport. It leaves them vulnerable. He's shows his Pink ID Card.... as do I. It beats having to carry your passport around. That said - in bank transactions now are lot less necessary these days due to online Banking etc.
