  1. I think though, are Thai wives of farangs worried more about their man going with other Thai women? Because, if he married Thai, that means that he likes Asian women and that means that he will be more likely sedused by other Thai women. For some men Asian women are not their cup of tea, so their western wives are not as worried, isn't that true?

    feeling insecure now are we?

  2. In your native country, how would you feel if in a restaurant they didn't bother to write the menu also in the national language?

I feel unwelcome. This happens a lot in Chinese restaurants in the US. The more interesting dishes are sometimes written in Chinese characters only. I have even come across Chinese restaurants in the US with no English menu whatsoever. it is also presumptuous, you couldn't possibly be interested in these more "authentic" farang/Chinese/whatever dishes.

I think it is VERY RUDE, here or anywhere, to present a menu and not have a complete version in the language of the country of the location of the restaurant.

I wouldn't go so far as the politically correct Canadian solution where they have strict laws about this (eveything must be French/English) but rude is rude and disrespectful is disrespectful.

Sorry, the Canadian solution as you state above is in fact not true. Nowhere is French and English used together outside of federal agencies / documents. Quebec is the exception.

I have never seen a menu in western Canada in French - Chinese is more likely.

  3. I am looking to book a return flight from London to Bangkok in Jan-Feb next year.

Whilst looking on search engines I have noticed that with BA and Quantas it is cheaper to book a flight to Bangkok from a European Hub via Heathrow than direct from Heathrow. I havn't checked any other airlines yet.

I have looked at Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt etc and all of them are cheaper than Heathrow direct. I used Kayak for this.

    With BA

    AMS-LHR-BKK £877 return

    LHR-BKK £955 return

It seems better to book a flight from a Hub in Europe and not use the leg to LHR.

Can anyone give a logical reason for this? To me it seems airlines are ripping off people flying direct from the UK?

I get a kick out of people who take a shot a companies that charge more than others. It's called supply and demand. BA or Qantas or any other airline flying out of Heathrow can charge whatever they want. If you want to do a milk-run to Ams or Frankfurt to here to save a few pounds, go ahead.

Nobody is forcing you to pay a fee you are not comfortable with. Fly Ryanair if you want lo-cost. Oops, they don't fly to BKK.

Try the middle-east airlines if you have more time than money. Many good ones including Emirates, Ethihad, Qatar fly to LHR.

  4. Since my move to thailand one thing has changed for the worse.

Leering. I just cant help it. Everywhere i go there is just a endless supply of hot women wearing skin tight trousers/mini skirts/very short shorts etc etc. I mean this is not good for my health. I will just end up having a heart attack/crash the car or even worse my wife catch me doing, Saying that though on the odd occasion my wife might actually point at a lady and say "narak mai". I tend to just say i dont know.

Is is because just because of the sheer quantity of beautiful women here in bangkok or is because im getting older??

Im 32 but feel like a dirty old man. :D:D

Well mate, been there done that so I know how you feel. However, give it sometime. After awhile your senses numb and you learn to not even notice them.

It's a bit like quiting smoking though, far easier to quit quiting than quiting.

Suggestion, change your schedule a bit. Avoid rush hours where Uni students crowd you on the skytrain and subway. Take your lunch hour at 1pm instead of 12pm.

Get a book and don't look up as you walk around the city.

Failing that, get married - works for me. :o

He already is married. Why did he bother!!!

Cmon mate dont take this so serious, Im married and happy, Whats wrong with admiring beautiful women, But my point is there are way to many here.

Im sure if i went back to the UK my problem would be resolved. :D

I dont know if you are bragging or whining. At least here you can have your cake and eat it too. God gave you two hands?

Stop scratching your as* and picking your nose and put them to better use.......drinking beer and changing channels.

  5. quote: suckling pig stuffed with bay leave-blueberry scented rocqueford cheese"

Could someone translate this into Thai for me? :D

I will ask my thai wife to translate later once she gets home from her workplace. She has just recently been employed as a Neuroscientist for a leading company in the field and its her second day so i better not phone her yet and disturb her.

She just finished her second term as Miss Thailand yesterday, so she might be a little tired. :D

Mine is pretty tired after finishing her shift at Baby a Go-Go! Then again she say's it's all worth it as she earns roughly 100,000 Baht a month at work and 5 different punters are sending her money that puts her on about 250,000 Baht a Month, not bad really. Pays for my Fortuner, plus the Mia Noi's condo.

Her friend has a BA from CM Uni and earns 10,000 Baht a month in MK Suki!

She wanted to end it all and go onto further education so I could tell everyone here on this forum that my GF has a Degree, but I told her that I won't live with her if she can't keep me in the lifestyle I've become accustomed too. :o

and now we all know where the term mang da originated from.

  6. Dropped by Tacos & Salsa again last night for chilaquiles, a dish you don't often find outside Mexico, and they tasted very much like typical chilaquiles (in this case chilaquiles verdes) I've had in Mexico, spicy and filling. Not a dish for the those who like 'mild' Mexican. :o Service was quick and friendly.

Thanks for the tips on this place, all sounds good, SJ, how far up 18 is it?

    Cheers

  7. I suspect the culprit that did it in the Roy Keane thread is some #### CENSORED ####. :o

Oooooooooh I missed that what did he say

    redrus

I forgot already :D I have very bad short term memory....or is that long...or both? hmmmmm

    MIIiiiiiiiiiiiig, spoilsport.............! :D

you know that I am, that I am. no arguments there :D

Well MIG16 (aka mia berkamp), it seems when you win your memory is good when you win but when you lose it isn't. My memory on the other is very good, if but a bit short.

  9. I went to the Terrace to try their pastrami but they only had Rueben and it was very disappointing.

It had couple of slices of meat, if you can call it that, and russian dressing wasn't up to the par either.

In L.A. we have a place call Langer's that has a thick juicy slab of pastami with fresh baked rye bread.

That's what I was craving for.

Well, I guess I am not in L.A. anymore......

As a follow up, I sometimes buy the pre-made sandwhiches etc inside the Terrace as they are (were) quick and pretty good value for 130 baht or so.

Today I picked of a smoked chicken kaiser roll which consisted of the following.

A large kaiser roll, two pieces of tomato, one piece of lettuce, a few small onions and a dressing of some kind.

Did I forget to mention the chicken? A few tiny pieces (about 5mm thick) of chicken breast (not enough to make it across the whole kaiser roll side to side) with the above condiments is not really value anymore. Before it was brimming with chicken but like the other meals there recently, it seems that pure profit is replacing what the Landmark was known for over the years, very good food if but a little dear but overall worth it.

Sad to say, but Subway is looking like a better alternative.

  10. First of all, does your friend have a shaved head? Tattoo on the forearms? Break and Enter conviction? If any of the above, he is qualified to wear a Liverpool shirt. :o

without wanting to turn this into a scouse / manc thread, you've never actually been to manchester have you james? that description applies to people from salford too you see.

I have been there mate. City fans are not the worth the effort so hence why the Liverpool reference.

  11. With both Rooney and Evra out due to suspensions and Harry's lads on form, I think this weekend's game will be very close.

You're gonna get a battering, 2-0, 3-0, who can tell..??

This week your luck runs out!

    C.O.Y.S

Hmm luck? It is possible that we draw but let's revisit this in a few days for confirmation :o

  12. I couldn't think where else to post this except here... I want to buy my thai friend a Liverpool shirt because it's his favourite team and I wasn't sure whether to get a name on the back. I was considering having his name put on the back but is that too cheesy/for kids? As a man do you think it's something you would appreciate? Or is plain better? :o

But seriously, I think you should get him that lovely yellow kit and send him to Issan.
