  1. 27 is good for me, wife doesn't complain at that, but I think she'd like 26 better.
  2. Bicycling 5 days a week between 35 and 50 km each time, for me it's good for mental fitness as well as physical.
  3. A friend of mine who has tried a lot, loves NL brand, medium/dark roast, he buys them on Lazada.
  4. These cold mornings, I start my ride later, but that messes up my schedule haha, looking forward to warmer mornings.
  5. My "income" is low enough that I don't even have to file a return in America, so with only a little bit of social security and a small withdrawal from my IRA, I'm below the amount to be required to file, so I would think I wouldn't have to file here either but I'm sure someone on here will tell me if I'm wrong
  6. I'll second the quality of food at Route 66 Chiang Mai, I've had lunch there a few times and everything I had was very good. It's a new favorite of mine.
  7. Everything I've gotten from America in the last few months had a tax due when it arrived. least was 30 baht, highest was 600 baht depending on the value.
  8. Cash is all I ever use.
  9. I was an automotive machinist for about 40 years, machining engine parts and rebuilding engines for cars, trucks, tractors, race cars, etc.
  10. I just completed this quiz. My Score 20/100 My Time 169 seconds
  11. I guess it boils down to how much you trust your wife. I have my car in my wife's name, she has a license but doesn't really drive except for the odd trip to visit a friend in the next village, we live in Chiang Mai but not in town so she will never drive in town. I trust her and she is 10 years younger so she should outlive me and then won't need to change it to her name. Also as mentioned before the ticket will come in her name, it happened once for a red light violation, but I paid it.
  12. It probably won't matter as it seems the people's vote really doesn't mean anything, as we saw in the last election.
  13. I had a 2006 Corvette that had electric door releases, so maybe this BMW did too, they would not work if the battery was dead but there is a manual release handle inside the car to open the door.
  14. The OP also didn't mention her age, that might make a difference. But overall Chiang Mai and most of Thailand is pretty safe, but as everyone else said nighttime can get dangerous when alcohol is involved.
  15. I guess we were from the same neck of the woods, I grew up in Pottstown and moved away a few times and kept finding my way back, so this time I went as far away as I could get, to Chiang Mai. My old high school girlfriend was from Schwenksville and went to Ursinus college, yes, some of those towns are hard to spell like the Schuylkill river among others.
  16. You'll get used to the humidity, I don't notice any crime around me in my area. Way more crime in the old country in the west.
  17. I just tried it using edge with and without my VPN and I got the same technical difficulties message too. Tried with Chrome and it opened with and without the VPN.
  18. How are they buying property? I thought foreigners could not buy land, or are they setting up corporations and buying with Thai people?
  19. Sorry, I have no idea. I would make a guess at about 10,000 baht, but again, just an off the top of my head guess.
  20. I too follow Paddy, and he has very strong legs to do all the mountain hiking he has done, but I agree with everyone else, that he was not physically ready for this bike ride. Yes, his seat was way too low, and had almost no cycling experience. I am 63 and ride about 40km a day 5 days a week, have never done super long distance but have done 90km with hills and I know how tired my body was. I ride in the morning before it gets too hot. I was actually amazed that he did as well as he did. I never would have thought a guy with basically no cycling experience could ride over 100km on his second day. I was rooting for him but had my doubts that he could accomplish his goal, maybe if he does more research and training he could try it and succeed in cooler weather and off the big roads, but I have to give him credit for attempting such a challenge.
  21. I was told that she would have had to have lived in the US for 5 years, then would be eligible, but a lot of paperwork and documents required to prove it.
  22. I have a nice area not in the city, around the Doi Saket area and Mae Kwang dam area.
  23. Bicycle 40-45km about 5 days a week. Usually ride 3 days then skip one, and repeat, sometimes skip one after 2 days but I average 5 days per week.
  24. I lost a little due to eating less junk food than in America, and bicycling 4-5 days a week. Lost about 2-3kg, currently at about 66kg, I'm not tall so it's a good weight for me.
