  1. Having lived there for several years, I concur with your assessment (mostly). Moved on to another place but few complaints about the building and the location is great. Happy to see you're still around the area, Neil. Cheers.
  2. Huh. Says "service charge". What do I know, though - you're the new AN "expert" here, lol. Congrats on hitting 50 posts.
  3. Do you apply this rule to hotel stays as well? Difficult to find a decent hotel without a service charge.
  4. Indeed it can.
  5. This stuff is 3 carbs per serving and about 90 calories - surprisingly tasty too. Can be found for approx 100 thb/bottle in the grocery stores.
  6. A monthly occurrence for me; six days from starting the transfer to receiving the THB into my Bangkok Bank account. I initiate my transfers from within the WISE app. As I understand it, if you were to set up WISE as a transfer partner in your home bank's account and initiate the transfer that way (i.e., you push the money from your account to WISE instead of asking WISE to pull it from your bank) then the transfer would be measurably faster. For whatever reason, I'm reluctant to do that though many others do so. (I think the fee may be less too.)
  7. You can definitely obtain a re-entry permit at CNX. The desk for that is to the right of the immigration departure lanes, after going through security. I've always completed the paperwork in advance to save time so don't know whether you can pay for that service. (I suspect yes, you can.)
  8. A friend of mine recently (last week) had an MRI performed at McCormick Hospital. Cost was 8,500 THB.
  9. Given the situation he's in, I'm gobsmacked that he's changed his name to Big Poker.
  10. Doomed to failure. USA constitutional amendments require 2/3s of each house of Congress to ratify and then 75% of individual states to ratify.
  11. As I interpreted the OP, the fund is run by the government. Since the government prints the money, they can certainly guarantee a 3% return. But yeah, it sounds like a government run Ponzi scheme.
  12. Nothing but good to say about the Schwab no-fee checking account. I have had no problems "accessing accounts" while in Thailand. As another poster mentioned, the account has many benefits that can add up to substantial savings if you use them.
  13. Generally, if you hold a visa, you don't need an onward ticket. DTV is, by definition, a visa.
  14. Thieves have numerous possible ways to get your card number. Data breach at one of the places you used the card, skimming devices, hacking the credit card processor, scraping the number from you by intercepting the RFID signal at close range, formjacking, stealing it if you used it over public or other non-secured WIFI, one of the employees where you used it stole the information, among others. Presumably you didn't fall for one of the obvious ways: phishing email, inadvertently downloading malware, scam phone call, or the ever popular "your wife/girlfriend did it." In short, it happens all the time and you'll probably never know how.
  15. PM Sretta Thavisin said, "With this new scheme, Thailand is poised to become the ASEAN hub of ignition." Probably.
  16. No, she is not correct.
  17. So here's what the PM cites as his accomplishments during the first year - not all of it is true but he does have a couple of achievements to his administration's credit: 1. Increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FALSE) 2. Improved agricultural prices (possibly TRUE due to inflation) 3. A moratorium on farmers' debts (TRUE) 4. An enhanced education quality for children (FALSE) 5. Increase in the daily minimum wage (possibly TRUE) 6. Law that allows same sex marriage (TRUE) 7. Upgrades to the 30 baht health care program (possibly TRUE) 8. Intensified drug suppression efforts (partially TRUE) ** - fact checks in parentheses are my based upon my(admittedly) limited knowledge and opinions of these programs. https://aseannow.com/topic/1332130-pm-srettha-highlights-key-achievements-in-first-year-of-office/
  18. With all of the feline analogies in this thread, you'd think someone would have made a joke about pussy by now. I'm not going to be the one, that's just childish.
  19. AFAIK, VAT has always been charged on imported goods exceeding 1500 THB. Starting on 19 July and continuing through 31 December 2024, the government is also collecting VAT on imported goods with a value of 1-1500 THB. The "official" explanation is to combat competition from cheap imported Chinese goods. (Side note: I'd rather the company collect the VAT on my behalf than make a trip to the Post Office or DHL or wherever.)
  20. Poster rethaired said "We'd like to know".....sounds like weed like to know. Cannabis is colloquially known as weed.
  21. Oh no. Place is completely deserted, looks like the set of a zombie movie.
  22. "Trying to stimulate the economy with this digital wallet is a bit like trying to boost the new car industry by purchasing stealing a dozen cars." Fixed that for you.
  23. All of which are attributes that make him the perfect candidate for PM of this country.
