Recently we have been trialing changes to member reactions. We have listened to your suggestions, and after discussion it has been decided that ALL reactions are going to be available for member use. Welcome back Sad, Confused and Haha reactions. However, there are some changes that you should be aware of. 1. When you give a reaction it will be anonymous. Members will not be able to see who gives a reaction. Importantly, however, moderators and admin will be able to see who gave a reaction. 2. Misuse or abuse of reactions could result in the member losing their ability to use reactions temporarily or permanently. 3. Forum Rule 11 has also been amended to state: We hope you will enjoy the added functionality and we look forward to even more interaction from our members.

Q: They cannot lease out this entire parcel legally, right? A: They cannot lease out public land as it does not belong to them Q: Is it a criminal or civil offense if they did anyways? A: It depends on their intent, and who can prove what was in the lessor's mind at the time of signing the lease. Perhaps the lessor just forgot and it is a misunderstanding. Q: Would it be a bad idea to build anything on that land? A: Yes because then the lessee puts themselves in a situation where they will have to pay and to keep on paying for people to look the other way. The more successful the lessee gets, the more they will have to pay. Q: Would it be a good or bad idea if someone pays the Orbortor to look the other way, and grant a permit nevertheless? A: A bad idea. First you will pay the orbortor. After everything is complete and all the money has been spent you might well get a visit from the Land Department. And maybe then from the police. It just goes on and on. Q: If doing so, who should be liable to pay that -- the leaser or lessee? A: Unless otherwise stated in the lease then the lessee is always liable for payments relating to work they undertake on the land. Try and design your build around the public land. Allow for it if possible. I have seen areas such as this used as car parks or green spaces. Clever planning can help a lot.

Proposal to erase borrowers’ repayment records is fraught with danger
blackcab replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The National Credit Bureau stores information for 3 years. That's not a particularly long time if you have defaulted on debt. By the time this law would be passed and effective the reason for it's existence (debt default due to the pandemic) would not exist any more as all pandemic related defaults would be more than 3 years old. -

This will change as the re-indexing continues.

If the lease is correctly registered on the back of the land title deed (as is required for any lease over 3 years in duration) then you will have a real property right. This means the executor and any beneficiary of the deceased's estate will be bound by the terms of your lease. You will be able to enjoy the land for the full duration and for the same cost as agreed in your lease.

That's a good question as there are currently two processes running in parallel. When re-indexing was started the system noted the exact date and time. The first process re-indexes all site activity before this moment in time. The system does this because it would be a lot harder to re-index a constantly changing database. Concurrent to this process, any site activity that occurred after that moment in time is counted separately, and it is this data that is currently being used to display member's ranks. As an example I am currently an Apprentice Member as I have made somewhere between 25 and 50 posts since re-indexing began. Personally I would not design the forum software to work this way, but it's not something I can change. When the first process of re-indexing the historical database is complete the system will then add all site activity from the second concurrent process to the data from the first process and use the combined results to calculate and award ranks.
-
Ranks will be restored when the re-indexing is completed. Currently re-indexing is at 66.13 per cent.

The forum re-indexing is indeed taking a long time, but that is wholly down to the forum software. I don't have a way of speeding things up. Re-indexing is currently 23 per cent completed. However with 300,000+ members, 12 million+ events and a 20 year database to analyse, with 11 badges and then ranks to award it will take some time. I have taken a screenshot of 10 of the 11 currently available badges and pasted it below: You will see there is a description below each badge, for example, "Got 100 reactions" which explains why the badge was awarded. There is an 11th badge, which has not been awarded yet (as the system has not gotten around to analyzing follows which is: Members will receive this badge when 10 people follow them. The "Rare" symbol on badges is applied if the badge has been earned by less than 5 per cent of members. During the re-indexing period when badges are being awarded the rare symbol will be re-calculated and some badges will become less rare as more of them are awarded.

I've seen Donna for a couple of things. She's great. Bare in mind that the clinic can get very busy so there are staff and patients lined up everywhere. If you go I would suggest you book an appointment online, and be prepared for a delay just in case one happens.

Back to the UK after 21 years - anything changed?
blackcab replied to simon43's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
@simon43 I'm not sure of your age, but if you are going to be catching the train a few times then consider a senior railcard: https://www.railcard.co.uk/senior/ If you are at the state pension age then you can also get a bus pass: https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-elderly-person-bus-pass Also free prescriptions for the over 60s: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/prescriptions-and-pharmacies/who-can-get-free-prescriptions/ If you look online you will find some shops, etc offer discounts to over 60s. It all helps. -

Yes, but only staff can see it. When we look at your profile picture, it has an aura around it.

Why am I suddenly getting all these Badge notifications ? are
blackcab replied to steven100's topic in Forum Support Desk
Moved to Forum Support. Please continue the conversation in the topic linked above. -
My apologies about the temporary newbie status for everyone. While re-indexing is happening points, ranks and badges will not be displayed. After re-indexing, your ranks will be reinstated. In the meantime the system will award achievements as it discovers them, hence the nice surprises everyone is getting. Thank you for your patience.

Back to the UK after 21 years - anything changed?

For cheap(er) train fares, try https://www.splitmyfare.co.uk/ For cheap mobile phone plans, try Smarty https://smarty.co.uk/ You will need to get a Smarty Sim card, which can be ordered free from the website/app, or you can buy them in places like Argos for one pound https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9447853?clickPR=plp:1:11 -
Back to the UK after 21 years - anything changed?
blackcab replied to simon43's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Money is very recognisable, but all notes are plastic. Even more so than before, fifty pound notes are not easy to spend. Self service machines do not accept fifty pound notes. https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/current-banknotes#:~:text=There are four denominations of,notes are printed on polymer. All coins remain the same as 20 years ago, apart from the one pound coin, which now has 12 sides instead of being round. You can use cash nearly everywhere, however most people use contactless payments either with their bank card or their mobile phone. You will notice that cash is a rarity. If you have a UK bank card you can add it to your phone very easily so your phone can be used as a payment device, or you can just use the card itself. Contactless payments can be made up to 100 pounds per transaction, so pretty much everything can be paid for in this way. There are a very few stores that do not accept cash, and a very few stores that only accept cash. You will notice that almost everything can be paid with contactless. Taxi fares, vending machines, street buskers... You will also notice a lot more self service machinery. For example in supermarkets you can scan and bag your own items. Sorry for the boring video below, but you will get the idea. Other than that you will have sticker shock. Prices have really gone up recently, so from 20 years ago it will potentially be a bit mind boggling. -
As the Consular Team do not answer questions regarding passports and visas, I'll move this topic to the UK forum.
