Swiss technology revolutionises Thai railways with first arch culvert
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Good question. I was wondering same. From the picture it looks like the train track (the wide strip) will have to be elevated over the top of the "culvert". See no mention of trains passing through the "culvert". It say's vehicle pass though the culvert so the trains must go up and over. -
2023 Honda 160 ADV versus 2024 model
soi3eddie replied to gerry1953's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
I don't know the answer to your question. I would simply find another dealer that can supply the latest model. -
The fees could be something to with bringing it back in to Thailand. As OP say's, it's not coming back to Thailand, so no issue.

Violent Bar Brawl Leaves Bartender Injured (Video)
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Something may have been lost in translation. Expect the article meant "pub/bar/venue serving alcohol" rather than "liquor store". Either way, not nice to see someone injured. Could have been worse. But surely the police will also be investigating why it was still open at 04:30am. Or do they have a "special" licence? -
Holiday schedule for Immigration
soi3eddie replied to phaholyothin's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I travel to/from Thailand a lot so last time I was here for 90 days was during Covid. I was here for 13 months and that was the only times I filed the TM47 (90 day report). Assume TM47 is not required unless in country for 90 days or longer. -
How about "some of the above". I selected digital nomad as I run my overseas business from Thailand. I'm not retired but work only 7 months per year. I'm not looking for a wife but have a lovely long term partner here. I'm not a businessman in Thailand but do have business elsewhere I'm an entrepreneur but have not yet found anything compelling for me to set-up in Thailand I'm not a sexpat, but have been known to enjoy the company of other ladies (less nowadays).

Holiday schedule for Immigration
soi3eddie replied to phaholyothin's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I really feel sorry for the poor saps who have to deal with Jomtien (be that tourist or Non-O long stay). I'll be doing my annual extension at CW Bangkok, this Thursday. 44 days before extension expiry. Never a problem. I will be in Pattaya on 11th April, could be quite entertaining to see the frustration and frayed tempers at Soi 5, Jomtien. -
When I bought Gold last year in Chinatown, I wanted 99.99%. After trying many shops, I found only one small boutique that sold it. Their buy/sell spread was ridiculous like 500 Baht IIRC. All the other shops selling 99.99 pure only had 1 kilo bars (not the quantity I wanted 🙂). In the end I queued up far an hour at one of the Hua Seng Heng stores watching huge amounts of mostly gold jewelry being bought and sold. I bought smaller minted bars at 96.5% pure. The buy/sell spread is only 50 Baht. It has turned out to be a satisfying purchase. Hopefully, if the OP @Keeps buys Gold for his GF, he can say same. Consider it a gift (along with other advice he might get on this thread).

I need a new Computer – But not a Laptop – Any advice .
soi3eddie replied to tomgreen's topic in IT and Computers
Some Dell's seem to have a battery issue. I use XPS13's and after about 3 years (of heavy use), the internal battery will swell and push up the touchpad and/or keyboard. It is an easy fix and less than 4,000 Baht to replace with genuine battery (2,000 Baht with non-genuine battery). Plenty available on Lazada. Watch tutorial on YouTube if not sure how to do. Minimal tools needed (a full set cost me less than 200 Baht on Lazada). Job done for about 4,000 Baht and good for another 3 years at minimum. No need to buy a new device and all the hassle of setting up O/S and applications again. -

Taking 3 small tubs of nam prik into UK via Heathrow
soi3eddie replied to kwilco's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Up to 1 kilo of shrimp paste used to be allowed in the UK so expect no problem. Be sure to seal it well and pack in checked baggage. As @Martin71 say's worst is that it'll just get confiscated but highly unlikely to be an issue anyway. Sniffer dog got my ex-wife on arrival at Heathrow some 15 years ago her case was full of Thai curry and chilli pastes etc. That's how I know 1 kilo of shrimp paste was OK at the time as the agent said so with no problems. -
E-cigarette vending machines uncovered in Central Thailand
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
Of course not. That would involve time and effort on part of BiB. They could have done investigative work and put the machine under covert observation until the owner (or their operatives) came to restock it and empty the cash. Or maybe, they know the owner is a connected or influential person? -

Those minors knew exactly what they wanted to buy and where to get it. Definitely not "unsuspecting". -
Just been driving a friend's Mitsubishi Pajero Sport for the last week. Drove just under 2,000 Kms on highway, city and country roads. Very impressed with it and would now consider buying a Mitsu. Previously would only have considered Toyota (Hilux/Fortuner).

Noisiest Trees in Thailand: Plop, Plop, Plop!

Parked under one of these trees at Khao Sok last week. Dropping reddish soft seed/fruit onto the ground and vehicles.
